Ever Dream Lyrics
Ever felt away with me
Just once that all I need
Entwined in finding you one day
Ever felt away without me
My love, it lies so deep
Ever dream of me
Would you do it with me
Heal the scars and change the stars
Would you do it for me
Turn loose the heaven within
I'd take you away
Castaway on a lonely day
Bosom for a teary cheek
My song can but borrow your grace
Come out, come out wherever you are
So lost in your sea
Give in, give in for my touch
For my taste for my lust
Your beauty cascaded on me
In this white night fantasy
"All I ever craved were the two dreams I shared with you.
One I now have, will the other one ever dream remain.
For yours I truly wish to be."
Just once that all I need
Entwined in finding you one day
My love, it lies so deep
Ever dream of me
Heal the scars and change the stars
Would you do it for me
Turn loose the heaven within
Castaway on a lonely day
Bosom for a teary cheek
My song can but borrow your grace
So lost in your sea
Give in, give in for my touch
For my taste for my lust
In this white night fantasy
One I now have, will the other one ever dream remain.
For yours I truly wish to be."

I think one of the best part of lyrics and poems is that they are up to the interpretation of the listener and that everyone may interpret them differently depending on past experiences. To me Ever Dream is a song about true love, about longing to find that special someone.
You really believe that they exist but you do not know how to find them. Every now and then you stop and wonder what it will be like when you find them. They will be the kind of person who is so perfect that they'll make every bit of hell you have had to go through worth it and then some. It is dreaming about this person and wondering if maybe, they are dreaming about you too (even though you have never met). But this person is not just a passing thought, they are your lifeline. They are hope.
I just realized it might be about Tarja. The line "My song can but borrow your grace" might refer to how Tuomas' music relates to Tarja's voice
"Brilliant song. It's about confronting the person you love to find out if they feel or ever felt the same way about you."
e.g. Tarja in the case of the author

An absolutely beautiful song about unrequited love. I don't think it's necessarily about sex, but it incorporates sexual elements because, let's face it, sexual attraction is a part of romance. This is perhaps my favorite song by Nightwish.
Listening to this song, the story of "Little Mermaid" comes to my mind. The music of "Ever Dream" sounds like thunderous ocean waves, very powerful, feverish and desperate at the same time, while the lyrics speak some words expressing longing, burning desire to someone unknown?
Could this be about the mermaid's reverie, as she imagined the prince she once saved from that bad, stormy shipwreck, the "castaway of a lonely day", "so lost in your sea" (drowned unconsciously?)... Admiring his handsomeness "my song can but borrow your grace", "your beauty cascaded on me"... and finally saying a wish to unite with him "in this white night fantasy"...
Ah, we always wanted to be dreamt by the one we love, don't we? "Ever Dream of Me, Dream of Me..."
many people think this song was for Tarja. Mainly because of this dedication at the end of the song ("All I ever craved were the two dreams I shared with you. One I now have, will the other one ever dream remain. For yours I truly wish to be") and for what Tarja's husband said about Tuomas loving her. What do you think?
isn't it obvious? this song is surely for Tarja, although indeed so many people can identify themselves with the lyrics. let's say this is just a love song; in that case what would you say that the final quotes mean? "All I ever craved were the two dreams I shared with you. One I now have, will the other one ever dream remain. For yours I truly wish to be." it's obvious: the first dream is about music, and the second about Tuomas' love for Tarja. well sadly enough, it seems that the last one will indeed "ever dream remain". what do you think?...

Maybe you are right. Tuomas was asked in an interview about this "other dream" of the dedication. He said it never came true.

perhaps one of my favorite songs ever; musically, lyrically, emotionally. I wouldn't doubt that it was for Tarja, mainly because of the amazing poem following the lyrics, but i think it can relate to anyone. it relates to me, the writer, and many people it seems. as stated by others, it is perhaps the best love song ever composed... i have one thing to say... thank you Tuomas.
I think its obvious Toumas loved Tarja and tried to tell her through his lyrics, being that the best way he knew how, makes me very sad Tarja is gone. Anyway i think the song is about how he feels for Tarja.
This song is absolutely beautiful. This song seems to be about unrequited love, as mentioned above, so it's so strange to me that it affects me so, I can't really relate to the song, but the lyrics stir up a feeling deep down that brings tears to my eyes.
The "End of an Era" version, where Tuomas starts to cry, you can tell he knew it'd be the last time those 2 perform that song together, and his reaction...not to jump on the cliche, but I think it would be about Tarja.
I never saw tears in his eyes, I just watched it on youtube
