Flat Earth Society Lyrics

lie, lie, lie . . .
the full moon is rising over dark water
and the fools below are picking up sticks
and the man in the gallows lies permanently
waiting for the doctors to come back and tend to him,
the flat earth society is meeting here today,
singing happy little lies
and the bright ship humana is sent far away
with grave determination . . .
and no destination, lie, lie, lie
yeah, nothing feels better than a spray of clean water
and the whistling wind on a calm summer night,
but you'd better believe that down in their quarters
the men are holding on for their dear lives,
the flat earth society is somewhere far away,
with their candlesticks and compasses
and the bright ship humana is well on its way
with grave determination . . .
and no destination, lie, lie, lie, ad infinitum.

The Flat Earth Society was a real organization that (mostly) endend in 2001. Just google the name. They did believe that the Earth was a disk and that the moon and sun were just miles away and that the stars were only 100 miles away. Every time scientific evidence was shown to them that the Earth is round, they would make up something to prove that wrong. When shown the first pictures of the Earth taken from space they said that untrained eyes would think that it was round, but they see different. Anyway, its real, look it up. So while this song is about them, its probably about their way of 'thinking' as well.

@crapartist - welcome to 2019...

@crapartist It was a real organization that was created to troll people. Nobody really believes this. Some claim to, because they think it's funny. Some might think they are making some kind of point. Others just like attention. Perhaps they have a mental disorder which makes them go... against the grain.

There is an actual group of idiots who believe the world is flat.

I'm listening to this song right now. To me, the flat earth society represents uncivilized humans, and humania is civilization. The flat earth society has barbaric practices. But as the flat earth society seems more like modern society, you realize that the bright ship Humana hasn't reached them. WE ARE UNCIVILIZED AND BARBARIC.

Is this song about the actual Flat Earth Society or is he just using them as a metaphor? Does anyone know?

@aebassist it could be both of those things. It like is about the actual Flat Earth Society but could also be meant to apply to people just as dumb as them.

the flat earth society is christianity, with it's desire to not except reality (evolution, etc.). humana is the rest of the intelligent people in the world.

Yes the flat earth society is christianyity and it is strongly previlent in the lyrics, so its really not a question of what the meaning is, the lie lie lie gives it all away.

not all christians don't accept reality. that's an unfair generalization. i'd say the flat earth society is all the people who are closed minded and refuse to progress and work for a better world. they believe that everyone will work for them. they are greedy and the humana are everyone else who were sent/went away, are gonna have the better life, but most suffer some before they have it.

Definitely about the closed mindedness of Christianity on the whole. I totally agree with this song. Bloody good one as well.
