Ballroom Blitz Lyrics
Are you ready Steve? Uh-huh
Andy? Yeah
Mick? Okay
Alright fellas, let's go!
Oh it's been getting so hard
Living with the things you do to me
My dreams are getting so strange
I'd like to tell you everything I see
Oh, I see a man at the back as a matter of fact
His eyes are as red as the sun
And the girl in the corner let no one ignore her
Cause she thinks she's the passionate one
Oh yeah! It was like lightning
Everybody was fighting
And the music was soothing
And they all started grooving
Yeah, yeah, yeah-yeah-yeah
And the man in the back said everyone attack
And it turned into a ballroom blitz
And the girl in the corner said boy I want to warn you
It'll turn into a ballroom blitz
Ballroom blitz, ballroom blitz, ballroom blitz, ballroom blitz
Oh reaching out for something
Touching nothing's all I ever do
Oh I softly call you over
When you appear there's nothing left of you
And the man in the back is ready to crack
As he raises his hands to the sky
And the girl in the corner is everyone's woman
She could kill you with a wink of her eye
And the band started leaving
'Cause they all stopped breathing
Yeah, yeah, yeah-yeah-yeah
And the man in the back said everyone attack
And it turned into a ballroom blitz
And the girl in the corner said boy I want to warn you
It'll turn into a ballroom blitz
Ballroom blitz, ballroom blitz, ballroom blitz, ballroom blitz
Oh yeah! It was like lightning

sorry to rain on the metaphorical parade, but I would like to actually discuss the meaning of this song. I heard that this song is actually about a gig in which the band was forced off stage because of a barage of projectiles (bottles, trash, ect.) hence the name: ballroom (where they performed) blitz (the attack on the band) could be wrong, as this only explained the chorusessseses, not the soft-spoken parts: Oh it's been getting so hard Living with the things you do to me My dreams are getting so strange I'd like to tell you everything I see that's my take, at least.
Yeah, that's what I heard, it was in Glasgow!

i was listening to it one day, and i thought the guys that writ it would of been boys in 1945 hence the beat of it, like if you heard stompin at the savouy the beat its gota 40s beat with rock to it wich makes it a classic as it is today, and in ww2 thats were they had dances at a ballroom, i could be totally wrong but thats my perception of it, and my 15yr old grandson loves it he said the drumming is cool haha!!!

My local classic rock radio station not only doesn't play this track, they don't play anything by Sweet, and that's frustrating for me. This is one of those songs that BEGS to be played on the highway when traveling in excess of 50 MPH. In fact, only one song can trigger a sense of road rage and invincibility inside me that beats Ballroom Blitz, and that's Deep Purple's aptly-named Highway Star. From Connolly's (RIP) opening "let's GOOOOOOOOOOOOO" to the guitar work laid down by Priest and Scott (who was born 50 years to the day before myself!), this tune is an ass-kicker through and through.
In my opinion this song's about the effects of the rock and roll lifestyle. The song is essentially one big dream (and a crazy one at that); in it we have a man who's eyes are as 'red as the sun' (drunk or high), we have a girl in the corner (a prostitute or groupie perhaps? - it would make sense as she's "everyone's woman") and plenty of fighting and, at one point, members of the band were passing out.
When you have a dream or a series of dreams like the one Connolly describes, you know you're living and breathing rock and roll.
@Yankeesfan630 just sayin'.... other "lyric" sites, which always have some problems, I've seen the girl in the corner is "everyone's mourner".... just sayin'...
