| Sweet – Ballroom Blitz Lyrics

My local classic rock radio station not only doesn't play this track, they don't play anything by Sweet, and that's frustrating for me. This is one of those songs that BEGS to be played on the highway when traveling in excess of 50 MPH. In fact, only one song can trigger a sense of road rage and invincibility inside me that beats Ballroom Blitz, and that's Deep Purple's aptly-named Highway Star. From Connolly's (RIP) opening "let's GOOOOOOOOOOOOO" to the guitar work laid down by Priest and Scott (who was born 50 years to the day before myself!), this tune is an ass-kicker through and through.
In my opinion this song's about the effects of the rock and roll lifestyle. The song is essentially one big dream (and a crazy one at that); in it we have a man who's eyes are as 'red as the sun' (drunk or high), we have a girl in the corner (a prostitute or groupie perhaps? - it would make sense as she's "everyone's woman") and plenty of fighting and, at one point, members of the band were passing out.
When you have a dream or a series of dreams like the one Connolly describes, you know you're living and breathing rock and roll. |

| Boston – Something About You Lyrics

This is one of those songs that I could see myself dedicating to a girlfriend or wife in the future on her favorite radio station. Being the shy and quiet type, I can relate to Delp's lyrics in this song. It has a pretty straightforward meaning; this girl (let's call her Amanda) doesn't even have to say anything around (let's call him David) - her mere presence is capable of bringing out the best of David and triggering a feeling he's never felt before deep within his heart. Though David struggles with his emotions, it just goes to show that, no matter how much of a "lady's man" reputation that's burdened on your shoulders, there will always be that one girl who can bring you to your knees. |

Call me crazy, but I honestly believe Paul Gilbert is one of the most skilled rock guitarists in the history of music. He was in his teens when he shredded those solos on the album "Street Lethal". I fell in love with him as well as the band almost immediately. |

| UFO – Rock Bottom Lyrics

In six years, only two people before me have commented? My goodness - it appears more people are caught up in the atrocious noise we call music today than I thought.
This song is way, way ahead of its time. I remember the first time I heard it, I mistakened it for "New Wave of British Heavy Metal". I had the early 1980's in mind. I was shocked to learn "Rock Bottom" was released a full decade earlier - in 1973.
Only two bands at that time were making music even reminiscent to the sound of NWOBHM - Scheneker's UFO, and Sammy Hagar's band - Montrose. Thanks to Michael Scheneker, UFO blew people away by what a human being could do with a guitar, and even today, people are still jamming out to this guitar solo. |

This classic instrumental is one of the whackiest, yet fun tracks you'll probably ever hear. At one point in the song, you'll hear a noise you'd swear was a UFO. Pure genious, and one badass riff. |

Craig hit the nail on the head - "This is how a guitar should be played".
It's as if, indirectly, this song shouts a big FU out to those who think speed, or a certain type of guitar, means everything. This guitar instrumental has it all. |

This masterpiece is one of the most played thrash songs currently on my i-Pod. It's a shame the spotlight never left similar bands like Metallica and Slayer. Twenty years later, though, it appears Metallica has sold out for good and Slayer hasn't produced a good album in years. Testament's "The Formation of Damnation" was as good a release as ever. |

Blueguitarrock has the meaning covered.
This track has two of the best (and most relaxing) guitar solos in the history of the existance of a music studio. |

| REO Speedwagon – Take It on the Run Lyrics

Great song by REO Speedwagon. I wanna follow up on something Garret said.
I don't believe "under the gun" means "put on the spot", nor "alone".
Think about it. When you're "under the gun" ... it means you aren't suspected of something - whether it's something you're doing, saying, etc.
In the case of this song .. the line "You're under the gun, so you take it on the run" - in my opinion (and let's say the boyfriend is the lead singer) ... the lead singer's girlfriend takes what she can get from other guys at a time or place where he leasts expects it. She's been getting away with this method for god knows how long and he doesn't suspect it, because she's under the gun - being discrete about it. But when he gets home and she "puts on her bedroom eyes" ... she acts innocent, as if she's been waiting for him, when that CLEARLY isn't true, but he doesn't see it. |

Great song. One of my personal favorites from Megadeth. Basically I think it's about what goes on in Mustaine's head when he's deeply angered. Lot of imagery going on in this song. |

It's no wonder "Stairway to Heaven" is one of the greatest rock and roll songs of all time. A song that sparked so much controversy and brings a different meaning to every individual who tries to 'decode it', essentially, should deserve no less of such an honorable title. |

| Judas Priest – Better by You, Better Than Me Lyrics

While it didn't sound like Halford's voice, there is indeed SOMEBODY clearly audible at 2:33 that says the words "do it". I've since played this thing backwards on Goldwave and heard nothing suspicious.
But, to whomever it may concern, listen to the song. Start it at about 2:25. He'll sing "better by you, better than me"... then there's a groan by Halford, then he sings "you can tell what I want it to be"... and THEN, the words "do it" are clearly audible. |
