Road To Nowhere Lyrics

I was looking back on my life
And all the things I've done to me
I'm still looking for the answers
I'm still searching for the key

CHORUS
The wreckage of my past keeps haunting me
It just won't leave me alone
I still find it all a mystery
Could it be a dream?
The road to nowhere leads to me

Through all the happiness and sorrow
I guess I'd do it all again
Live for today and not tomorrow
It's still the road that never ends

CHORUS

Ah ah
The road to nowhere's gonna pass me by
Ah ah
I hope we never have to say goodbye
I never want to live without you

CHORUS

I can't believe more people haven't commented on this song. I love the guitar work on it.

As coconut said, Ozzy is looking back on his life and the mistakes he's made. He still finds life a mystery...still looking for "the meaning of life".

In the second verse ("the wreckage of my past keeps haunting me"), he can't let go of his past. His alcoholism, drug abuse, and depression still haunt him...he can't forgive himself and move on with his life...he hasn't learned to "live for today and not tomorrow".

Despite that, he decides life has been worth the ride and he would do it all again if he had the choice. In other words, he isn't saying "I wish I had never been born".

As for the 'road to nowhere' part, I think he's saying he's trapped by his old habits...he isn't making any progress because his past keeps coming back to haunt him. It's like Pink Floyd's "The Wall", he's building a psychological wall around himself.

At the end, he finally tears down the wall and decides the depression will pass. I think his marriage was on the rocks and he ultimately realized he had to get better or he was going to lose Sharon.

Again, similar in theme to "The Wall" and also to the Beatles' song "Nowhere Man".

yeah andy...this song kicks some serious ass... what my interpretation is... ozzy's looking back on all his mistakes and experiences, and although some of them may be painful for him, he wouldnt be the same and he doesnt have any regrets. also, i think in the midst of the "journey" he found somebody he really loves, and he considers that one of the positive things, and he hopes to continue on with them.by saying the "road to nowhere leads to me" i think, hes basically saying my destiny or where i go in life is up to me, and depends on how i chose to spend my time.

My take on the meaning of this song is Ozzy remembering all the times he messed up as a kid and being told he was on the road to nowhere…all the choices he’s made in his life, whether good or bad, led him to exactly who he became and given the chance he would do it again.

This is my favorite Ozzy song. The guitar playing is just excellent and the lyrics are poignant. Even though I haven't had the trouble with alcoholism and drug addiction that Ozzy has, I can identify with the song. I haven't learned to live in the present and I just can't seem to let go of past mistakes and tragedies. I think I'm slowly learning to accept the past and focus on the present, but it's a long road (I guess that is what Ozzy means by "it's still the road that never ends").

How you had interpreted the song does seem to fit. I do not judge what makes a song good by the charts, I judge it on if I can feel it, not by how loud it is but inside. If I can relate my own experiences with the song. This is one of those songs. And with what you said is how I have thought of the song and do view my life.

If this is truly what Ozzy wanted to say, then you pretty much hit the nail on the head.
