When this song came out, I would put on the record or cassette and ask people to listen and guess who the singer was. Very few people guessed Ozzy, but it was fun hear what people would guess. I would never play this game with real Ozzy or Black Sabbath fans.

This song is about vying for a women;s love only to come in second place. In some respects this is worse than an unrequited love in that the forlorn lover knows what he is missing and it hurts. I was 18 when this song came out and my takeaway was that EVERYONE is susceptible to heartbreak; even the Prince of Darkness. Not an big insight to me know at the age of 50, but a decent warning to me as a teenager.

so I'm the 1st to write about this beautiful heartbreaking ballad...this song deals with the painful thing that is to love and be ignored by the loved one...the difficult process of understanding that no matter how much you'll try that person will never be yours simply because (s)he considers you incompatible, and will keep promising and also delaying you. The guitar solo is shear genius, it literally makes you wanna scream like a madman Wonderful song!

i dont get this song coming frm ozzy cos it sez like i stayed at home remaining true ect...so i always thought tht this song was written as if sum1 was singing it about him.

This was around the time of Bark at the Moon and I don't think that he was having problems with his wife but maybe it's about someone that cheated on Ozzy a long time ago, I have no idea but it's one of my favorites by him.

I always thought this song was about Ozzy being in a relationship with a married woman -- he is the 'other man'. And that he has been waiting for her to leave her husband but she never will. And he's tired of wasting his time on her so he's ending it. Such a beautiful song from such an unexpected source.

I agree with Phoebe with lines like "But you belong to another my love" and "While you're out with you know who". It's possible this is about the girl's husband rather than she's found a new guy instead of Ozzy.

@samwalton that song seems more like it's about someone who's insane telling his alternate personality to give him peace, but cool reference to the title though. About the song itself, this was released in 1983, and he married Sharon in 1982, who he claims he fell in love with in the 70s according to his biography, when she helped manage Sabbath with her father. Before they married though, Sharon was in a relationship with someone named Adrian (said to be the S.A. in the song S.A.T.O., the other half being Ozzy and his first wife.) This song is probably the feeling he felt during that time (81 I believe) that he could finally express now that they were together. That's my theory.

This song is about Ozzy and him coping with the split with Black Sabbath. He always thought they would get back together but it never happened.

The band belongs to another and leader. But that is what makes this song so amazing because Ozzy had a way of writing songs that showed his heartbreak over Sabbath but allows others to apply their own meanings.
