Beneath the white fire of the moon
Love's wings are broken all too soon
We never learn
Hurt together, hurt alone
Don't you sometimes

Wish your heart was a heart of stone
We turn the wheel, and break the chain
Put steel to steel, and laugh at pain
We're dreamers in castle's made of sand
The road to Eden's overgrown

Don't you sometimes
Wish your heart was a heart of stone
Look at the headlines
Big crowd at the crazy house
Long cue for the joker's shoe
Ten rounds in the ring with love
Do you lose and win

Or win and lose
Sweet rain, like mercy in the night
(Lay me down, wash away the sorrow)
Caress my soul and set it right
(Lay me down, show me your tomorrow)
Summer tears, winter and the moment's flown

Don't you sometimes
Wish your heart was a heart of stone
Mercy, mercy, wish your heart was a heart of stone

Get the picture
No room for the innocent
Peak season in lonely town
Knocked out of the ring by love
Are you down and up

Or up and down
I ask the river for a sign
(In a dream, we go on together)
How long is love supposed to shine
(In a dream, diamonds are forever
But you and I, hurt together, hurt alone

Don't you sometimes
Wish you heart was a heart of stone
Mercy, mercy, wish your heart was a heart of stone
(With a heart of stone, you'll be well protected)

Don't you sometimes
Wish your heart was made of stone
(With a heart of stone, you'll be well connected)

I think the song is about taking in all the troubles of life and trying to live around them.

Wishing it wasn't possible to have your heart broken... I think it's a really cool song and very pretty...

There is a mistake in these lyrics, the last bit in parenthesis should read "With a heart of stone, love's not resurrected" -Which pretty much sums it up. The jist of the song is that it might just be better to be able to easily forget your failed love rather than be "knocked out of the ring by love".

There is so much suffering in the world. We all experience some of that suffering to at least extent, and it even hurts to watch others suffer. Cher is being a little sarcastic in some of these lyrics. She asks you if you "wish your heart was made of stone", but would you really want that? If you had a heart of stone you would not feel anything. If you did not recognize sadness you could never experience love and happiness, and you would not want to make the world a better place for others because you have a cold heart of stone. Suffering is just a part of life, but we also have good experiences, and with the use of our soft hearts we make things right.

Just watched the video to this song. It seems to be a song about despair. How many times do we put our faith and hope and trust in our significant other, we fall in love and think that maybe this time, it really will work out and last forever, or we believe strongly that a political movement we believe in really will change things for the better, and in the end, we just seem to end up with new problems, and nothing really lasts forever. There's definitely some bitterness in this song. Definitely the feeling of I've been had. Great song though, one that isn't easily forgotten!!!

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

I Can't Go To Sleep
Wu-Tang Clan
This song is written as the perspective of the boys in the street, as a whole, and what path they are going to choose as they get older and grow into men. (This is why the music video takes place in an orphanage.) The seen, and unseen collective suffering is imbedded in the boys’ mind, consciously or subconsciously, and is haunting them. Which path will the boys choose? Issac Hayes is the voice of reason, maybe God, the angel on his shoulder, or the voice of his forefathers from beyond the grave who can see the big picture and are pleading with the boys not to continue the violence and pattern of killing their brothers, but to rise above. The most beautiful song and has so many levels. Racism towards African Americans in America would not exist if everyone sat down and listened to this song and understood the history behind the words. The power, fear, pleading in RZA and Ghostface voices are genuine and powerful. Issac Hayes’ strong voice makes the perfect strong father figure, who is possibly from beyond the grave.

There aren’t many things that’ll hurt more than giving love a chance against your better judgement only to have your heart crushed yet again. Ed Sheeran tells such a story on “Page.” On this track, he is devastated to have lost his lover and even more saddened by the feeling that he may never move on from this.

Plastic Bag
Ed Sheeran
“Plastic Bag” is a song about searching for an escape from personal problems and hoping to find it in the lively atmosphere of a Saturday night party. Ed Sheeran tells the story of his friend and the myriad of troubles he is going through. Unable to find any solutions, this friend seeks a last resort in a party and the vanity that comes with it. “I overthink and have trouble sleepin’ / All purpose gone and don’t have a reason / And there’s no doctor to stop this bleedin’ / So I left home and jumped in the deep end,” Ed Sheeran sings in verse one. He continues by adding that this person is feeling the weight of having disappointed his father and doesn’t have any friends to rely on in this difficult moment. In the second verse, Ed sings about the role of grief in his friend’s plight and his dwindling faith in prayer. “Saturday night is givin’ me a reason to rely on the strobe lights / The lifeline of a promise in a shot glass, and I’ll take that / If you’re givin’ out love from a plastic bag,” Ed sings on the chorus, as his friend turns to new vices in hopes of feeling better.
