Seville Lyrics

They're gonna kill us all

Oh Sheena kneels and prays over the graves
and wishes of her god to be so brave
the roses she had picked fall from her hand.
On to the ground which will soon hold her

Sheena Bella
Sheena Bella

Oh Sheena Bella walks
and Sheena Bella strays
Oh, fetal Sheena counts off her last days
The colors of the grass
The shadows on the floor
The precious things that she had no time for.

She was only 4 years old.
She was barely 4 years old.

Sheena Bella
Sheena Bella
Sheena Bella
Sheena Bella

They're gonna kill us all

They're gonna kill us all

This song is about Seville, which is a city in spain. It was a port town, but it sits inland a ways. It was no longer used as a port after the water way by it was filled wit silt. People were attracted to the city due to it being a trade route with Spain and America. The good from America brought lots of people there. There was a time in the mid 1600's when a plague decemated seville and ended up killing about half of the population. A few years after the plague hit revolts broke out and bread became scarce and really expensive. This song, I think is about this event and how the people who are not so wealthy were unable to live. This song in particular is about a little girl whos parents probably died from the plague and she is left and will soon die also. Seville was also really into religoins and I would guess Sheena Bella is some sort of prayer. This is my take on this beautiful song.

I agree with your statement that this song is about the Spanish city Seville (I mean, it's the title), but I don't think the plague is the subject matter. Taken from wikipedia: "Seville fell very quickly at the beginning of the Spanish Civil War in 1936. General Queipo de Llano carried out a coup within the city, quickly capturing the city centre.[23] Radio Seville opposed the uprising and called for the peasants to come to the city for arms, while workers' groups established barricades.[23] De Llano then moved to capture Radio Seville, which he used to broadcast propaganda on behalf...

@bucky1337 I wondered if it was about a cat named Sheena Bella, symbolic of all the things you alluded to. The cat was only 4 when she died. I figured the name was from the Seville sounding guitar riff. But I’m not right you’re right. Thanks for the input. 2024

This was my favorite of their songs back in 2005, and when given the opportunity to ask Rob what it meant, he said that he threw darts at a map to pick the name. It was a sad moment for me as a fan who had made up elaborate scenarios of deep meaning. He is a genius in my mind. Darts, Go fig ha ha.

This song is great. It seems like Sheena is grieving the loss of her parents, and that there is a war of some kind... possibly WWII? This song sounds so innocent when just listening superficially, but when the lyrics are listened to, it is very dark.

the song is beautiful. it's so calming and deep. i agree that it's about a young girl, sheena bella, that has expierienced some trauma at an early age in her life and as a result, is forced to forego all of her pergogatives as a child to enjoy the little things and have that sense of wonder as a child. it's kind of like looking back and wishing one could return to being a child...very interesting subject and soothing song.

i think that this song is about a Jewish family during WWII that lives in a concentration camp and sheena's parents were killed and she is about to be as well, I got the Jewish part from the religious reference inthe first verse.

Not really quite sure the meaning of this song but some great lines ...

"Oh, fetal Sheena counts off her last days"

And ...

when he says, "She was barely four years old"

Like four is young enough, but the "barely" part underscores her being four years old. I don't know if that makes sense, but I love the use of the word "barely" there.

oops scratch that thing about Sheena Bella. Her name might have been Sheena and Bella is a way of saying beautiful in spanish. Beautiful Sheena.

When I first listened to this song, I thought that maybe it was about the ghost of a little girl who was aborted or died in infancy, years later wandering around a graveyard, waiting for the anniversary of the day of her death. But now that I've read bucky1337's comment, I've changed my mind. Thanks for the history lesson! :)
