June Lyrics

Light flickers in my room
Planes flying by
dropping down perfume
blanket out the sky
Wander through the smoke
Grabbing for food
Choking on the air
Might pass out soon

Why do I assume these things are
bad? bad
Burnt down? Burnt down
bad? bad
Burnt down? Burnt down

Why must all those pretty be
sad, sad,
Some how? Some how
sad, sad,
Some how? Some how

Sheep trip over the fence
Scared animals trample over the bed
Siphoning out my will

And it might turn out just like they said,
and it might be even worse in here

Why do I assume these things are
bad? bad
Burnt down? Burnt down
bad? bad
Burnt down? Burnt down

Why must all those pretty be
sad, sad,
Some how? Some how
sad, sad,
Some how? Some how.....

It's up to the trees with the fire storm.....

Even how.....

Even how.......

Unfortunately, THIS has to be my first post on SongMeanings.

You people are thinking too deeply into this. The song is about getting high in the summertime. It is plain, simple, and extremely obvious.

@Maroliver I don't think you're right honestly. First of all I think most songs can be interpreted differently by different people and there's nothing wrong with someone getting a different meaning out of it. Like how you can get that meaning out of it, and if you wanna believe that you can obviously. With that being said, for the sake of argument, I think I'd say the amount of emotion he puts into his singing in this song makes me think it means so much more. Personally I find there to be a lot of depictions of war imagery throughout...

The beauty of Pinback is that it is very abstract. They're voices truly sound like instruments part of the melody and not just poetry. With that said, any line, stanza, or even word they speak can remind us of a feeling we have, of a time we had, of any particular memory. Whats most interesting about their lyrics is they are often obscure, whereas you would have to look them up, or turn the bass all the way down and treble up to understand what they're saying for more than a moment. At the beginning, for instance, when he says "Light, flickers in my room, planes flying by, dropping down perfume"... For me it makes me think that he's thinking of a girl he's fond of, and he is just waxing poetic. Like he can still smell her perfume in his mind. Someone else hears it and thinks "oh this guy is talking about getting high".. Of course, you read the full lyrics and see this is merely a song about forest fires, and perhaps he is helucinating due to the smoke... Maybe he is not a person is a bedroom at all.. COnsidering he says the light it is in his room and there are planes dropping down perfume. Is it possible that he is mother earth? idk. I like also that he talks about "it's up to the trees with the firestorm..." Now, I used to think it said "it's up to the trees where the fires stop"... In that sense, we try to put the fires out but in reality we're doing nothing... so much so are we doing nothing that he refers to the flame retardant as perfume... hello? perfume is flamable, number one. number 2, it smells nice and in this sense may be futile in putting out the flames, or is a covering for the bad news which is that we can't do anything, but it looks like we're trying... Additionally, i like that he says why do i assume these things are bad? Why must all the pretty things be sad? THis doesn't have to be about a forest fire, but the forest fire is a metaphor for any given problem life brings our way. HELLO WELCOME TO POETRY. This is one of the amazing things about this band is how well they capture life experience in their poetry. They can sing just about any song they make and i will tell you how it applies to more than just the literal interpretation of the words.

Do they do it on purpose? I don't know that they do. Which is why art's meaning is often beyond the intended meaning. And another beautiful thing about this band. EIther knowingly or unknowingly, they make the art that makes me incredibly happy. And tells me i'm not alone.

June and Tripoli are by far my favorite inback songs...pinback is awesome

I think this song is about a fire. I think the singer is trapped in a fire. "Light flickers in my room" referring to the light of the fire. "Planes flying by dropping down perfume" I think this means that firefighting planes are flying by dropping down perfume meaning the fire extinguishing powder. "Wander through the smoke" and "Choking on the air are pretty self-explanatory. "Scared animals trample over the bed" is talking about the animals scared of the fire trampling the bed and "siphoning out my will" I think means that seeing the animals run in fear drains his...

How are there not more comments on this beautiful piece?

Those piano notes are so beautiful. Because someone needed to state the obvious (my take): It's about a place, probably a small village, being bombed by airplanes. Although it sounds wrong, I like to think that the verse is sung by the person on the ground and the chorus is sung from the perspective of the person in the bomber, having doubts "Why do I assume these things (the target) are bad? Why must all those pretty things be sad? Hyperdrive sequence begun, hit it Pinback...

I think Kerze has the right idea. I interpret this song as turning something awful and making it beautiful. That even in tragedy, their is beauty. Thats what I take from it I guess.

Very pretty tho. I love the instrumentals in this song. By far one of the best pinback songs.

I agree with kerze.

sounds like some kind of war song maybe one of the members of the band pinback((whom are amazing)) had to experiance something like this or knows someone who did experiance some kind of bombing.
