Great Escape Lyrics
i'll use a lock that has no key
bind you with chains
that no one else can see
let the water creep over your face
i'll send it in waves
just to watch you perform the great escape
how long can you hold your breath
while you hold mine again and wait
just to watch you perform the great escape
i'll pull your arms tight behind your back
use myself as weight
and wonder while you fade
how long can you hold your breath
while you hold mine again and wait
just to watch you perform the great escape
bind you with chains
that no one else can see
i'll send it in waves
just to watch you perform the great escape
while you hold mine again and wait
just to watch you perform the great escape
use myself as weight
and wonder while you fade
while you hold mine again and wait
just to watch you perform the great escape

The lyrics speak of drowning the man, while the singer is unaffected by the waves and even "send(s) it in waves." This reminds me of the sirens or Greek mythology or some interpretations of mermaids, how they lured sailors to their watery deaths.
yeah, i think its more about testing your lover's devotion and patience
This song is so beautiful.
Weird way to put it, if it is. I think it's something else, but I have no idea. (hence, I came here.)
At first the idea of S&M came to mind... but then it turned into a sweet love song. Meh.
sounds like what a houdini type magician goes through.. doing tricks like put in a straightjacket then getting out, being locked up and put under water then escaping... maybe being used as an analogy for something but not sure what.
I think this could be of a nearly ended relationship.
She's trying to keep him with her, but despite her efforts, he still performs the great escape. Great escape, because there's so many things she uses to keep him.
I agree, maybe not with the idea that is a nearly ended relationship. But I think it's about the reality of most relationships where one side knows the other is trying to escape. The side that doesn't want to escape tries to tie the relationship with a drowning abundance of feelings and compromises. Limits the actions by keeping a close eye yet knows that it's a matter of time before the other party leaves. Not ending but toxic because it can last with this scheme for a long time.

Azure ray does the lyrics for this song, and i believe helped to write the song. good song to fall asleep to, soft vocals, speaking right into your ear
"While you hold mine, I'll count and wait." maybe...
Like a lot of Azure Ray's lyrics, could be about relationships and/ or addiction. One or the other, probably both. I don't think it's hard and fast one or the other.
i agree. i think it is an analogy of Houdini's great escape, (hence the name) for love. imo.
