'Lonely as a whisper on a star chase' is simply a great lyric.
I don't really understand this song, howere I think its so beautiful Usually I'm not such a fan of Brian's vocals, however he sings so beautifully here
I think it's about a man who feels lost and alone, and feels as though he's taken the 'wrong path' in life But then after the first solo part, he opens his eyes and realizes that he isn't alone ('his many stars above him', his friends and family etc...) and he puts his troubles away and lets his inner child play So off he goes to live the life he's always wanted to life, Long away from his old dreary one. new beginnings!
Lovely song by Brian, one of my favorite Queen songs. Gotta love all the astronomy references too.
A great song, possibly about the ways civilisation has advanced or simply about those who have died and or missed...
is great when you feel alone, its like queen will always be there. it has great intensions about how the world is changin. intros a bit weird tho but brians voice is spectacular bless his cotton sox xxxxxxxxxxxx
haven't tried to figure this one out but it's a wistful beautiful song!
"Long Away" seems like a song of condolence. Words of comfort to one who has suffered a painful loss. During a time of intense sadness (a few years ago) this song spoke directly to me. I have always really liked it, but since the aforementioned experience, it has taken on a new meaning.
Beautiful melody. The harmonies remind me of another popular song by someone like "America". Just cant put a finger on it. One of my all time favorite Queen tracks
Brian was struggling hard with depression when he wrote Long Away. He said in an interview that he didn't seek therapy until after the song came out on Queen II. I believe these are his thoughts on depression, the questions he was asking himself, and his thoughts about what to do. Evidently therapy was his answer when he found try as he might, he could not leave his troubles behind. So after trying by himself, he sought out a therapist a couple years later (in the 70s). After Freddie Mercury died in 1991 his depression was so bad that (he said) he considered suicide ... so he entered a clinic and participated in group therapy and had sessions with his own family - all of which helped him truly feel that there were people who loved him even though he felt so alone. In an interview after the clinic he described himself as a "depressive" indicating it was a lifelong condition he had to grapple with. He said the clinic was in Arizona and that no one knew who he was. I love that Brian is open and shares his insights with others in hopes of helping them too. He says his songs are based on his personal experiences, with the understanding that others who are going through similar things may find some help or hope from realizing they are not alone with the type of feelings they have.
this song is one song that makes me feel good inside if your driving to work then this is the song to listen to
