A song about the end of the world. Destruction. It's amazing people only think of this as a party song but its about the end of the world.
this a great party song, i love it. It's one of the few Prince songs that i like

Mattalac The reson 1999 is in there is because its about the end of the world the world was suppose to end on news years eve 1999 But its 2006 so I don't think it ended!

Look, I remember even myself 10 years back thinking "in the year 2000 the world will end". I think there were a lot of people spinning the same bs over the last few decades, the point of this song is this, Prince is very simply saying, enjoy life while youre living it, he doesn't care, just party like its 1999.. what the hell is so hard to understand about that?
