I know you
You're trying to do all you can for me
I appreciate your help
But it's best just to leave me be
There's many things that I have done
And I'm sorry for them now
So darlin' please don't you comfort me
I'll sort it out somehow

So sing me no sad songs, tell me no lies
Please, don't you make me blue
Sing me no sad songs, tell me no lies
Girl, I can do without you
Don't go breaking my heart
It would tear me apart
'Cause then I'd be finished for good
So sing me no sad songs, tell me no lies
Please, don't you make me blue

I don't want you to think I'm mean
Refusing all your help
The time has come, but my need is none
And I want to be alone with myself
There's many things that I have done
And I'm sorry for them now
So darlin' please don't you comfort me
I'll sort it out somehow

So sing me no sad songs, tell me no lies
Please, don't you make me blue
Sing me no sad songs, tell me no lies
Girl, I can do without you
Don't go breaking my heart
It would tear me apart
'Cause then I'd be finished for good
Sing me no sad songs, tell me no lies
Please, don't you make me blue

Sing me no sad songs, tell me no lies
Girl, please don't make me blue
Sing me no sad songs, tell me no lies
Girl, I can do without you
Sing me no sad songs, tell me no lies
Girl, don't you make me blue
Sing me no sad songs, tell me no lies

I always turn this song on when I'm upset. It explains what music means to me, sharing my pain, my joy, and my contentment.

The kick inside is in the line that finally gets to you And it feels so good to hurt so bad And suffer just enough to sing the blues

*Those lines describe when you are feeling what a sad song is describing so perfectly.

actually I can't help but remember way back when Sassoon Jeans (Ooh La La Sassoon) (who went on to be sued by Vidal Sassoon and had to drop an 'o' from their name to Sasson used this song for their ad somehwere in the late 70's or early 80's. It was like "put em on, put em on put on them Sassons"

anyone else old enough to remember that?

This one of the few songs in the world that requires no explanation. I sometimes get the impression it might have been written with a bit of sarcasm.

However, I take it at face value. This song is what music is supposed to be about - not so much the sadness, but the emotional impact music has on us.

Both as a standalone and as part of the DSOTS album, you can take this lyric as read. As a matter of public record, Jourgensen's drug intake was legendary even in the 1980s. By the late 90s, in his own words, he was grappling with massive addiction issues and had lost almost everything: friends, spouse, money and had nearly died more than once. "Dark Side of the Spoon" is a both funny & sad title for an album made by a musical genius who was losing the plot; and this song is a message to his fans & friends saying he knows it. It's painful to listen to so I'm glad the "Keith Richards of industrial metals" wised up and cleaned up. Well done sir.

Fortnight
Taylor Swift
The song 'Fortnight' by Taylor Swift and Post Malone tells a story about strong feelings, complicated relationships, and secret wishes. It talks about love, betrayal, and wanting someone who doesn't feel the same. The word 'fortnight' shows short-lived happiness and guilty pleasures, leading to sadness. It shows how messy relationships can be and the results of hiding emotions. “I was supposed to be sent away / But they forgot to come and get me,” she kickstarts the song in the first verse with lines suggesting an admission to a hospital for people with mental illnesses. She goes in the verse admitting her lover is the reason why she is like this. In the chorus, she sings about their time in love and reflects on how he has now settled with someone else. “I took the miracle move-on drug, the effects were temporary / And I love you, it’s ruining my life,” on the second verse she details her struggles to forget about him and the negative effects of her failure. “Thought of callin’ ya, but you won’t pick up / ‘Nother fortnight lost in America,” Post Malone sings in the outro.

Blue
Ed Sheeran
“Blue” is a song about a love that is persisting in the discomfort of the person experiencing the emotion. Ed Sheeran reflects on love lost, and although he wishes his former partner find happiness, he cannot but admit his feelings are still very much there. He expresses the realization that he might never find another on this stringed instrumental by Aaron Dessner.
