The differing interpretations are interesting.
When you realise she's singing from the man's point of view, not her own, that it's about Sutcliffe becomes much clearer. Although the clues are there: night shift sisters...cold marble slab...dissect...knife...
Truly harrowing song. Can't think of another that has its atmosphere to such an extreme, an unnerving listen. Shows her horror at his crimes and her sympathy with the victims. Would she have thought of the case as another example of the establishment letting women down? Undoubtedly...
My favorite song by her, she's singing about the necrophiliac Peter Suttcliffe.
All I have to say is she meant that (Siouxsie)!!! She sounds like a powerhouse on the album version....makes you turn it up and knock the knob off. The passion of the lyrics, the genius drumming. My favorite Siouxsie song.
Does anyone actually hear "visitor"? To me the second "i" defintitely sounds like "ee", as in "eater".

Reading the lyrics, it seems to me like this song is about an evil person that visits her every night ("your nightly visitor") to have sex with her. This person isn't really a person, more like a demon or something ("please come to me with your cold flesh, my cold love; hissing, not kissing"), and it has killed people. Of course it's probably not about a demon visiting a woman. It also sounds like she's being kept somewhere, with other women, and this dude just comes in and visits them every night. except why would she "not mind" then, if she's being held hostage with other people? I guess I'm not sure how I interpret this song, but those are the two ideas that I get.
