The Wonders At Your Feet Lyrics
deeper shades of red descending
smear our names, the stains unending
turn forgiveness,
break the lens distorted
crush the infidel and turn about
famine in our hearts, bring up the silence louder
eradicate the lungs and take us higher
these are the wonders at your feet
weighed upon a wider scale
afraid to see what takes us down
sing destruction, sing of unfullfillment
search abandoned, let the blood be fevered
ridden of the self provided things get easier
ignite our minds and let's burn brighter
these are the wonders at your feet
smear our names, the stains unending
turn forgiveness,
break the lens distorted
crush the infidel and turn about
famine in our hearts, bring up the silence louder
eradicate the lungs and take us higher
afraid to see what takes us down
sing destruction, sing of unfullfillment
search abandoned, let the blood be fevered
ridden of the self provided things get easier
ignite our minds and let's burn brighter

I think this is a song about somebody who is unhappy, and wants more in their life. To do this, though, he would have to expand as a person. He must accept their shortcomings, face his fears, and leave his comfort zone to do this. He is apprehensive of this, so he tries to convince himself that he really is happy with what he has. He's struggling between the lie he's set up for himself, the unhappiness of his current life, and the difficulty of taking action to improve his life.
I think this one's generally about failing to perceive the obvious. Life is full of amazing experiences if we could only allow ourselves to experience. Similar to the basic general idea that if you stop talking for a few days and really focus on relating to the people communincating with you, you realize how litte you were ever truly listening.
Take the line "eradicate the lungs and take us higher" Which to me basically means Just shut up so you can appreciate "the wonders at your feet"
I've always thought of "these are the wonders at your feet" to be kind of sarcastic, saying that we act like the world is this amazing place when it really isn't and there is a lot of bad stuff that goes on every day. I might be thinking too much about the lyrics though and missing the obvious meaning which others have posted here.
I have to disagree with some of the comments here. This song is anything but positive (as most, if not all, DT songs). This song is about war. It talks about anger taking hold (a deeper shade of red descending), common sense and logic being left behind (sing destruction, sing of unfulfilment, search abandoned...), the muting of people oppossing the conflict(eradicate the lungs), people blinding themselves to the truth (weighed upon a wider scale, afraid to see what takes us down)and people following without sense or logic, the death of individuality (ridden of the self provided things get easier). As for the title, I understand it that we live in a amazing world, full of miracles that we crush under our feet.
I love DT! It is amazing to see so many different (even contradictory) interpretations of the lyrics here. Even interpretations that I immediately thought 'No, that can't be right' even seem logical after thinking more about them. Stanne is a fantastic lyricist.
A song which truely fits its title. You feel on top of the world looking down from above after listening to this. Uplifting physically and emotionally
Actually, I think rieve is correct. The song sounds like a servant speaking to his master/superior.
I think the first part of this song is about looking down at others from a higher position.. The second part being the point of view of someone lower. All in all, another great song from DT.
I agree with Buddah. It is a very positive song for Dark Tranquillity, talking about everything that's amazing out there.
did you even read the lyrics, man
