Back in the Day

I feel that this song is about people who never get the full picture and idea or concept. They do things in vain, never understanding the deeper meaning. They live life as empty shells, never able to be truly fulfilled, on a spiritual/emotional level. Instead, they are satisfied by the superficial. A dog can throw his bone around and be quite contented by this simple action, and that is it- there is no more to it. A man can wave his gun around and much like the dog be contented, without putting any real thought...

Such a cool concept for a song for multiple reasons. On the surface it's a 2 part song from the perspective of the capturer of the butterfly & (reprise) one from the butterfly that is dying in a jar. It is also meant metaphorically describing a toxic & controlling relationship where one person feels they have to have them contained so they can't leave yet wants everyone to see the beautiful specimen they have. In the reprise they are being controlled & are dying inside & potentially for real, they want out & are beautiful despite all they endure....

While it is an instrumental, Sinfield went on to say, on the title and its sections, it's about the death of this crumbling world as it descends into a hellish storm that only keeps building and destroying what was. However, in this destruction, there is a rebirth at the end, which brings peace. This end flows perfectly into the final track on the album's original release, Peace - An End.

The song here is about how we have lost a natural connection with food, leading to food today being highly processed, cheap, and of no value. The name connects how the food of today is commercially processed and packaged, becoming indistinguishable from the food we give cats. We no longer seek heathy natural grown foods, but manufactured food that's not even fit for a horse to eat.

The title track of the album is about how society is coming to an end because people are either too emotional and acting on impulse, or are easily manipulated, or have become too logical, becoming paralyzed in their analysis and intolerant of others due to their own intellectual superiority. By the end, it emphasises how both logic and emotion need to be balanced in oneself, so that you can be made whole and be able to get in...

This one is a lament of sorts on how we have lost the natural connection to sex, with it now being a mere imitation of what it once was. You could also see it in a dream-like way, with the person deluding themselves in their dreams and being unable to face reality.

In short, this song is about how we have lost connection to the natural world and have created an artificial city of only sin and pleasure seeking.
