I love this song! Good songs often have good lyrics and a good writer makes the lyrics in such a way that more people can identify them selves with the lyrics. Very often they perform this by allowing many possible (VALID) interpretation of the lyrics. @[sokorny:19476] They sound to me like "it aint picture" being repeated many times from "it aint picture perfect" in the song 'Alpha Omega' from later in the album. If you listen in more depth, you may hear what sounds like "win or lose your life" from the end of 'Alpha Omega' around 32 seconds in. The weird repeated electronic sound, and I could be massively overthinking it, kinda sounds like the word 'Karnivool'. Don't ask me what any of this means, because I have no idea - I normally wouldn't tend to listen to this sort of 'minimalist' music, but this song (if you can call it that) fascinates me. It may be a marker for a turning point in the album, as if the speaker has let their thoughts ferment and digest, and has reached a new opinion, or that they are slowly making sense of their thoughts. |

I are of the mind. its a lost love..long gone that wrecked a man many years before.... I carry my Carrie (Kathy) with me who died 18 yrs or so ago after a long fight with brain cancer.. I carried her many many times in search of a cure..there wasnt one and she died in my arms looking into my eyes trying to tell me something she never had the strength to.. (try living with that)... we were childhood sweathearts and had almost 20 yrs together starting out with nothing to gaining something in life... I still love her and I still miss her and almost cry a lot still and the frustration and emotion you feel in that song is very real as I too have that. To me the song is saying this man had nothing left after Carrie went as he was living with her in his mind and still speaking to her (as I do)...he could do anything for her or to get to her even climb that mountain if she were only there to point the right direction (as I could)...as he has lost all direction since losing her..much as I did for 5 yrs after losing my Kathy and still to this day...I live with my regrets as he is with his.. |

He's being remorse about his pursuit of her leading to her demise. Perhaps it was in her frenzy after her father was killed they came together or it could be the loss of her child that lead to her frenzy then suicide. She cannot speak because she has gone to heaven as her brother Laertes says, she's become an angel. The flood either refers to the great deluge in which Hamlet feels he has committed the ultimate sin against humanity expecting impending judgment. This is certainly a song that means different things to different people. Here is my connection to this song. My son has been wayward for most of his life. A thrill seeker to an extreme. I could not quell his desire to push the envelope. When a young person has that drive his direction can go into two very different directions. He chose the unhealthy direction, drugs and alcohol. Much that he did as a teen I was unaware of until he told me later in life. My wish for him was sobriety and happiness because his two children need him. There were some bright spots but they didn't last long. His lifestyle took a huge toll on his body. My wayward son died 2/28/2017. There is peace and sobriety for him now. |

@[Fr1dge:18461] Very interesting interpretation. Just goes to show how a song can lyrically mold itself depending on the listener. I have to disagree considering Thrice and Dustin's Christian background. I'm always looking for a biblical reference in most Thrice songs considering that they are in fact a Christian band (lots and lots of biblical verses hidden in Thrice songs). To me the song is talking about chasing sinful pleasure and continually getting stung by its consequences. However I can understand your perspective and in all honesty the song does fit your interpretation lyrically. It could most definitely be a hidden undertone but considering the band's background, it definitely isn't what the song says to me.
