Asylum Lyrics

Release me

No remnants were ever found of it
Feeling the hot bile
With every fake smile
Though no evidence was ever found
It never went away completely

I try to appellate a holy sound of it
Another day gone
Another night's drawn
Dark forces pull me underground
And never went away completely

How can I feel this empty
I will not recover this time
This loneliness is killing me

Will I ever know peace of mind again
I don't believe it
I can't achieve it
I think I know it's just another sign that
Never went away completely

Terror is coursing in me
Can you find a moment
Where I have to be
And feel you die
In asylum (i live a lie)
Don't you know I'm in love with you
And I wasn't ready
For asylum (relive a lie)
To let go
Now it's dragging me into your grave
Your asylum (forget the lie)
Overcome and the feeling that I won't get to join you in time
But the loneliness is killing me, yeah!

Death's images are all around again
They're right behind me
They're gonna find me
Judge me for my mortal sin
That have enveloped me completely

I know I'll never know a peaceful night again
Afraid they'll hear me
They don't fear me
Punishment for me of a moral crime
The debt was never paid completely

Terror is coursing in me
Can you find a moment
Where I have to be
And feel you die
In asylum (i live a lie)
Don't you know I'm in love with you
And I wasn't ready
For asylum (relive a lie)
To let go
Now it's dragging me into your grave
Your asylum (forget the lie)
Overcome and the feeling that I won't get to join you in time
But the loneliness is killing me

In the end there will be no suffering (more suffering)
In the end we will find out everything (not everything)
In the end you may question your belief (what belief?)
In the end you will realize someday
How you were deceived
This has gone on too long (too long)
No more demonic race
Destroyer come to light
Because the memory is killing me

In asylum (i live a lie)
I let go now it's dragging me into your grave
For asylum (we live a lie)
Overcome and the feeling that I won't get to join you time (without you)
This world is not fulfilling me

Don't make me live in asylum
I live alive
Don't want to live in asylum
I live a lie
Don't make me live in asylum
I am a lie

Sounds as if it might be a sequel to "Inside The Fire," that he's gone crazy without her, from the loneliness, and he is waiting to die to be with her again.

It also seems like a prequel to Perfect Insanity.

This song is in relation to "Inside the fire" from the last album. He is following up on how he is dealing with the loss of his Ex from his teenage years. She committed suicide and inside the fire was his Catharsis and I guess this is his follow up to how he is doing mentally. David has been going through a lot mentally with that traumatic experience. in fact he said that before or during the last album he started having those nightmares again about witnessing what had happened. So the song inside the fire was from Satan's point of view trying to get him to reunite in hell with his ex. This song is a direct follow up of him still trying to finally bury those memories and find peace with what has happened.

Song writers/musicians use songs to come to terms with traumatic experiences all the time. This is David's way of trying to come to peace with what happened. I do hope these 2 songs help him through it. He has explained in interviews in great detail what happened and how he is coping with it.

Song Meaning

I forgot to add, the imagery david discussed in inside the fire was satan saying that he can reunite with his loved one by taking the plunge into the fire.(Meaning hell.)

The songs about how hes tying to escape the lonliness he feels after the loss of a loved one. "Overcome and the feeling that I won't get to join you in time But the lonliness is killing me"- In his death he will be joining "you" in time

Song Meaning

do any of you think , if you are a christian, consider that listening to this type of msuic is bad if you are one i mean you cant go wrong this band ROCKS but still leave a reply

My Opinion

no, it's not wrong cause nobody can be wrong listening to disturbed!

@theDISTURBEDoneHaHaHa I am Christian and this band's music has done absolutely nothing to dis sway my faith. In fact, this group is exactly what I want my children listening to! I have heard no lyric from any of their songs that have made me believe they are atheists or that I need warning signs for my kids. I am 47 and the song The Night freaking rocks and does not tell anyone to deny the Savior...now, they cannot stand Bush, but, hey, we cannot all agree all the time! I give this group a huge thumbs-up...

The meaning of this song was stated in one of the interviews. The meaning is it is about a lost of a love, or a great love and this love drove this person insane but yet they want to hold on to the the memory of i even though it is not good for the person. You can youtube the interview and get the exact words.

Awesome song. Does anyone else get the feeling that the events of this song are the aftermath of the events of Inside the Fire?

Yeah!!! That really makes sense... hmmmm... I'm curious about the words the feeling that I won't get to join you time... if this does relate to Inside the Fire then the person that committed suicide is in hell (if you believe in that sort of thing) and the singer is worried that he wont go to hell and so he will never see her again... Does that make sense?

Still curious about the background words during the chorus... :)

Disturbed FTW!!!

Hm... Neo, I really never thought of that, but yeah, it does.

This was said in a recent interview by David, so this is the real meaning:

"The song is about the loss of a love, a great love, driving someone insane. But there's a dual meaning to the word "asylum"... "asylum" is classically known to be a madhouse... an insane asylum. But "asylum" also means a safe place, somewhere where somebody can have refuge. It's meant to outline the duality of the meaning of that, that 'I seek the asylum of joining her in the grave.' It's very dark, very fucked up. As usual".

It is an interesting interpretation, and I personally agree with it, but not because that is their interpretation. I am a strong follower of the "Death of the Author" type philosophy, and as such what the author says was their intention is not the only valid interpretation.

weird, it is showing me as posting my previous reply over an hour ago, but I posted it less than five minutes ago

what does it mean when he says-No more demonic rage? I dont like that whole demon-istic thing... and what does it also mean when he says-I let go now it's dragging me into your grave-?

its not "No more demonic race, or rage", whatever thisb dude wrote. he clearly says "no more demonic dreams"

@karmaandeffect69 Demons are a part of life! While Hollywood has twisted them to be something they're not, they can affect us and can influence our decisions. One cannot believe in God without believing in demons, Satan, etc. This song is absolutely NOT paying tribute to demons, rather, an asylum can be an escape from them.

"telling the heart Vile With everything smile"

Sounds to me like

"filling the heart vile With every fake smile"

its "feeling the hot bile with every fake smile"
