Radiohead – 2 + 2 = 5 (The Lukewarm) Lyrics 22 years ago
Yep, at 1:53, this song gets really tight. It sounds to me like what a nervous break down would feel like. Seems like Thom is associating the doublespeak to his girlfriend - the stuff about "I'll stay home forever/
Where two and two always make five."

My Chemical Romance – Vampires Will Never Hurt You Lyrics 22 years ago
I usually totally over-analyze but I thought this song was a straight-out vampire fantasy. but then I guess some of that vampires-society connection is valid after reading a dif. interview with Gerard. He says,

"Yeah, obviously we use vampires as a metaphor for something else, something deeper than just the supernatural. But there's just something about the bloodsucking walking dead, that can say so much to people. There are really so many people trying to get control over you on a daily basis and steal your soul in some way, take a part of you..."

Silverchair – Without You Lyrics 22 years ago
It was written around Neon Ballroom and for that reason is the best track on Diorama. Too bad Daniel had all these songs like NB written and then fuckin erased them!

AFI – The Mother In Me Lyrics 22 years ago
I thinks about relationships in general - like what is the fuckin point anyway? "'Evacuate the premises'" i think means the girl told him to leave. He's saying "love" is a fucking waste anyway. He never wanted to get attached to anyone and that is what he has done. It's as if Davey thinks he's lost all rational thought "what it is I never want to be," "beast I have become"

AFI – Silver And Cold Lyrics 22 years ago
"Oh, my beautiful one " seems pretty clear cut, doesn't it? What else is this song about if not about a relationship. But then he could addressing himself as a "beautiful one." Yep, right. Anyway emotional harcore usually has something to do with relationships - that's kinda what differentiates it from most oi, anarchy/political, crusty punk, horror punk, and nazi punk etc. Anyway, to be obvious, in most genres relationships are a major theme - not just related to the opposite sex. It's pretty fucking important. I bet you can find at least one song relating the lyricist to another person on every fuckin record.

I think he just wants to seclude himself from society. He doesn't want to be assessed by stupid mofos who don't even know him.

Muse – Dead Star Lyrics 22 years ago
They haven't even fuckin released it in the U.S. I had to rip it from Limewire. Didn't Matt say something about this song being a reaction to 9/11? It seems pretty odd when it sounds like it's a relationship song.

Muse – Dark Shines Lyrics 22 years ago
I thought Matt's groupies days were over. hmm. Anyway, groupies aren't all that innocent anyway. They know what their doing. They go in their to fuck the guy. I think it's about his Italian girlfriend. Dark shines - dark hair, maybe. The song has similar themes to Bliss - might be the same girl.

Sunny Day Real Estate – Every Shining Time You Arrive Lyrics 22 years ago
This song is so fuckin depressing to me but still I love it. I know Jeremy 'found God' or whatever but I always think of this song as a treatise on nihilism though he changes his mind in the end. I don't see how this song could be about a girl or a relationship when the bulk of it focuses on how we have no control over life, it is meaningless and there is nothing. I guess there is the third verse and the bridge which seem to address a person and are optimistic. I think the "every time you smile/ Every shining time you arrive" part shows he's found meaning & God. bleh . . . i guess i'm talking out of my ass anyway.

Ivy – Undertow Lyrics 22 years ago
I think this song is about giving into depression, being submissive in terms of thinking things can change. She's with all her friends but she's alone at the same time and feels empty, numb because she's felt so much for so long. Now she feels nothing and she's drifting with the undertow because the pulling force of the depression on her is inevitable. It's insuperable. Quite a depressing song but still very good.

Interpol – Stella Was a Diver and She Was Always Down Lyrics 22 years ago
Maybe my interpretattion is clouded by my own neuroses but I think Stella is this girl who just feels like people are always looking at her in a negative, judgemental way, even strangers. I think she secludes herself from people in the "tight" "sea" so she won't be looked at and then she's alright. I dunno if we can even try to understand what any of Interpol's songs mean anyway b/c Paul Banks has said he uses free association and half the time he can't even articulate the songs' meanings.

Silverchair – Israel's Son Lyrics 22 years ago
Daniel Johns has said basically every song on Frogstomp was inspired by t.v. He probably wrote this about some conflict in Israel he saw on tv but i think a lot of the confused emotion has to do with his own life. He was 15 and taking some shit at school when he wrote all these songs. The "apathy" bit i think he basically knicked from Kurdt like a lot of the themes on this record even if silverchair sound much more like Pearl Jam on the first record. On their second album there's a song called "Abuse Me" that reminds me of Nirvana's "Rape Me" lyrically and thematically anyway. Their third album is less hard but still way more original "Neon Ballroom."

AFI – Silver And Cold Lyrics 22 years ago
I think this song is about this beautiful fuck Davey had with a girl. I know some people think the "silver" "cold" "somber" bits are negative connotations but i think Davey is attracted to the macabre and people who have some sorta depression (or "darkness" - to be corny) that he can relate to. When he says, " found you on the way" it seems like through this metaphorical darkness he has connected with the girl.

The chorus is the part that most makes me think this about a sex. "Your sins into me" seems to mean he wants to connect w/ her and take on even her ugly personality traits just b/c he wants to be a part of her so much. "Rapturous" connotes a flood of emotion along with "tremble." I think the "beg for forgiveness part" doesn't mean that he's done something wrong it's just that he's taken on her sin by becoming part of her.

"Feel your hollow voice rushing into me" seems to be so obviously about sex. "I will lift up your voice as I sink" i think means that he will make her happy even if he must take on her sadness in the process.

The whole bridge section"Cold in life's throws . . .", i think further explains his last point. When Davey says, "I'll fall asleep for you . . . I only ask you turn away" suggests he will lose parts of himself "fall asleep" inorder that the girl can be repaired. He asks her to turn away maybe b/c this experience was so beautiful that he doesn't want it to fade he'd rather just remember it when it was pure and they hadn't grown apart? or maybe Davey doesn't want her to be consumed by his own darkness? I dunno . . .

Let me just say lastly Davey Havok is so fuckin hot. Most girls think hes' scary though. Hmm. If yer a girl you should check out his pic b/c he is perfect.

The Vines – Country Yard Lyrics 22 years ago
my fav. song on the album- i think def. the best lyrically.

I think this song is about depression and just the boredom and uselessness one feels if depressed. Craig isn't exactly mentally stable; i think "I'm tired of feelin sick and useless/then speakin every other way" shows how he's once tried to hide this. It seems like he's so bored out of his mind he's willing to do anything to distract himself.

The second stanza is about his disillusionment with life e.g. "the secret garden." The chorus is kinda hopeful, saying that he was thinking negatively of his future "taken by the shadows/although we couldn't see that far" but he doesn't need dramatic change or material possessions to make him happy. He knows he'll be fine in the end.
