this is some little treastise on the instinct/spirit vs the intellectual, the people on the train are listening to language tapes cramming their heads, deaf to the peace of the birds.
she feels the intellectual mind goes into atrophy when it stops running or hiding from its darker or deeper/unconscious roots [the cellar].
they begin to light up from somewhere else from something that has no material source [neither the sun or moon]
reminds me very much of the d.h lawrence quote 'I conceive a man's body as a kind of flame forever upright and yet flowing, and the intellect is just the light that is shed into the things around us. And I am not so much concerned with things around, which is really mind, but with the mystery of the flame forever flowing…. and being itself.'
defnately a similar theme,I enjoy her riddles, she speaks my language.

| Regina Spektor – All the Rowboats Lyrics

I think she is implying we honour the creative dead but not the creative that exist now. They are a sort of fringe element that garner little respect.
people pay homage to the old masters [french, german, dutch, italian, latin],the public mausoleums.
I think lights out, lock up refers to asylums were orginal thinkers/creatives tend to end up now, potential makers of masterpieces serving sentences.
The rowboats trying to row away into existence, refers to the attempt to revive the creative act out of its dormant usual framework [the gold frames] the worried captains are the experts, know it alls etc. |

he has said he is spiritual but does not belong to any religion,I think its just about his insistence that there is more to all of it than what is quantifiable or seen. |

possibly one of the best songs ive ever heard,my bf got me into this band.I like the intense destructive quality anthony plays through the whole song, he makes it so inviting to be in.So many people turn away from that part of their nature out of fear, they forget it and hide it [but its still there] and i feel as if he is reclaiming it without concern.I indentify so much with this song. |

| Björk – My Snare (aka Nature Is Ancient ) Lyrics

It's -
"She's got dark hair on her head
Blonde on her arms"
she is referencing herself as part of that unique suprise genetically, she is mocking all the rational creatures who try and control and predict all manner of life and don't allow to it unfold in any natural way to destroy or ressurect. |

I also think it its reference to someone whose died he's looking up into the sky saying that if there not there in some sort of space,if there''s nothing deeper to death, then life does'nt matter. |

I thought this was some sort of bad pop love song.
But its actually about science. He is saying now he understands the process of evolution, but that the more he learns of it the more mystery/feeling/belief is done away with and he's saddened by it.
To him if the whole word is reduced to matter and math then its no longer worth living or being in.Black and Gold is a reference to the night sky and he questions toward the end why the "visuals/content" of it [science] matters more than how we "feel" about it.
He says if only things that are visual are real then most of his life has been false because everything weighty and real to him has been felt rather than seen.
Old war of feeling vs reason.
The songs theme is very simliar to whitmans poem "learned astronomer". |

love this song, reminds me of the d.h lawrence quote:
"museums, object-lessons rigged out to illustrate the unsound theories of archaeologists, crazy attempts to co-ordinate and get into a fixed order that which has no fixed order and will not be co-coordinated! It is sickening! Why must all experience be systematized? A museum is not a first-hand contact: it is an illustrated lecture. And what one wants is the actual vital touch."
I don't agree with the sentiment either,I love museums. |

my theory is that damien was with lisa and cheated on her 9 times, and she never did anything about it or wouldnt leave him so he is finally going with someone else [giving his gun away] before he hurts her even more since she won't end [shoot] the relationship herself. |

this song makes u brave, having courage to accept all of life, even the possibility of painful bits.
It seems as if she is saying even you get hurt, even if ths does'nt work let's do it anyway, not to be scared,to let go of all your old suffering/doubts.My now boyf gave me this song when i was still hung up on old love,it was perfect.

Realising you need to let something go,those lines "I don't know who i am without you,all i know is that i should" she sees its a gap in herself she needs to repair, that it can't be filled by someone else. She realises they would be better off with someone who is already complete and whole "she would love you more than I could, she who dares to stand where I stood".
Those last lines are great too - she'll still be there if they need her and that it was because of this person that she realised how important it was to know/trust herself . Sad song but also happy in the end. |

I dont usually listen to this type of music, but this is one of the best songs on deep friendship ive heard.
Basically those friendships that oulasts all trials, sadness and change. The lyrics have a real feminine nuture/protect quality about them,i think rhianna embodies that. |

I was given this song,an acoustic version taken from some live village session. It's very sparse and clear.
It is one of the most painful songs ive ever heard - describing the slow burn of a destructive relationship that never comes together but which was valued highly by both nonetheless. |

Wow for a song apparently without meaning it has certainly generated a great deal of debate.
I think this song is appropriate to the culture it belongs to and comes from.Just because it does'nt comply with your lifestyle and values does'nt mean it has no significance.
Fking women and doing drugs etc is what his life is made up of, his reality, what is he suppose to sing about picking daisys in the meadow?
When i think of music in the past the lyrics were even less profound "shake, rattle and roll" "don't step on my blue suede shoes" etc I could go on.
The point of that music was just to dance about and get into it.I'm really confused by the hostility to music which is really just made to be simply enjoyed and not for any other high purpose. |

to quote neil :
'the song stemmed from being in france somebody telling me about an expression called 'l'esprit de scaille' which means spirit of the stairs and its about all
those thoughts those brillant thoughts you have as you leave a passionate confrontation of some sort and your walking down the stairs and you think damnit "i wish i said that"."Fuck i wish i told him he was an asshole" ,all those great all those clever things you think of after you leave a room.'
