Trying to analyze a David Bowie song has frazzled my brain so I remembered this song and wanted to see any comments made...interesting take about the plateau in a relationship. If anything, that may be a good sign (maybe things were wild and crazy or unclear and unsettled) so to think about being at home by the fire holding someone you love looking into their eyes seems pretty sweet and romantic to me. I'm going to bypass the fact that there's a rampant lack of accurate song lyrics on the internet -- I've actually been casually researching that area the past year or so (still working on that PhD)! This is so beautiful, I don't know how I'd feel if someone felt this way about me, it imparts intense emotion and deep love (from the context it seems the feeling is mutual). I get the sense that two people want to be together -- whatever form that may take -- and it doesn't matter if one or both of them can't verbally express their love, because they both know that they've found it with each other and it's not going away. |

I think you can have a lifelong connection with somebody even if you're not physically together, so I don't see that as being alone. You keep that person in your thoughts and I'm certain that to some degree they sense it (not to get all palm reader on you, ha ha!) ☺ |

I think you'd naturally assume some stressful situation is unfolding and you've no control over its outcome, maybe feeling panicked or helpless and basically like the world is out to get you. I suppose the only positive or optimistic element to this song is that you're partnered with someone else, that you're going thru this together. |

Probably one of the saddest songs I've come across in my life...of course I'm going thru a lot of depressing things myself (a drug problem that has caused all sorts of hell, my sibling dying this summer, financial trouble, more...) Life seems really bleak now but I'm hoping it will get better. I don't know if the person that he's referring to is somebody he loves -- probably not, and that just makes it that much more hopeless and confusing. Moving on is really hard, but hey what else can you do. Take care. :) |
