| Kayo Dot – Amalia's Theme Lyrics | 6 years ago |
|
This song is a riddle. The references to the oracle of Delphi (from Ancient Greece) are clear: Delphi it drew us Delphi it threw us As she whistles her sweet Oracles As Athens is Burning Castalian Spring Oracular and Wandering (The Castalian Spring is the ravine where visitor washed themselves before consulting the oracle). The name Amalia is never used in connection with Delphi, afaik. It's also unclear in what time this is supposed to take place. Most of the album is sci-fi, and this can't really take place in Ancient Greece (the cigarette smoke...) I would assume some kind of very strange future with a new oracle. |

| Kayo Dot – Magnetism Lyrics | 6 years ago |
|
Clearly a depiction of some kind of dystopian future, likely caused by a technological catastrophe. "Steel through passageways like water through fountain pipes" Taken literally, it means that streets are actively being flooded by steel... being pulled towards a gigantic magnet? "Step lightly over whores reaching Up through cracks in the concrete Grinning death masks of beauty living Hands like scalpels reaching out" Literally the bodies of people having been buried alive and died trying to grasp for a way out? But why whores, I have no idea. "Desire killed the curious" Someone has been pushing the envelope for an invention or a scientific breakthrough too far and triggered a large-scale catastrophe |

| Mirrorthrone – So Frail Lyrics | 8 years ago |

My honest guess is that this doesn't mean anything but is just tying words together that sound good. Very skillfully so. It enlightened my deafened scream, Where hatred was reigning supreme, Thus switching ways, inverting nights and days And breaking the walls of my rational maze. |

| Mirrorthrone – A Scream to Express the Hate of a Race Lyrics | 8 years ago |

Obviously about misanthropy. It's obvious because 1) this is the essence of everything Vladimir does, 2) the lyrics aren't that complicated 3) he said so himself. So yeah. Nothing to do with nationalism or racism whatsoever. This is misanthropy. The race is the human race. |

| Tarja Turunen – Minor Heaven Lyrics | 8 years ago |
|
Stupidly beautiful song. Seems to about appreciating good things in life. That fits the title and most of the lyrics. More of a riddle are those four lines: the magic seems so far don't know who they are You know it's gone too far. Leave them where they are. |

| Tarja Turunen – We Are Lyrics | 8 years ago |
| Pretty sure this is about the fear of death – particularly about thinking/not thinking about death. | |

| Tarja – The Archive of Lost Dreams Lyrics | 8 years ago |
|
I always thought this was about the non-existence of heaven. Deepest beliefs from billions of souls... Aah, promises... none of them were left behind... Particularly depressing is this part: We send our inner fears for the ocean to score... Waiting it takes them all away from the shore... you wait for heaven and then you die. The ending also appears to be clear Archive... is gone.. We are on our own. |

Very Swans-y lyrics Could be about the feeling of possession and/or superiority over someone else? Idk. |

| Nightwish – Beauty Of The Beast Lyrics | 9 years ago |

This song is everything that EFMB and particularly the greatest show on earth tries but fails miserably to be. Forget the meaning of the lyrics for a moment. All you need is this verse: All of my songs can only be composed of the greatest of pains Every single verse can only be born of the greatest of wishes Yes.Yes. Exactly. This song was born out of passion, and is deserving of this verse, even if it doesn't technically refer to itself. Coming back to the meaning, I doubt that there's a greater story here. I think it's more about expression emotion and themes-- I refer to SnowballInExtremum's post. They do so quite nicely, though. |

| Dream Theater – Illumination Theory Lyrics | 9 years ago |
| This song is clearly about wanting to write a 22-minute epic as a statement that you're still capable of doing so. It's exceptionally deep n stuff. | |
| Dream Theater – False Awakening Suite Lyrics | 9 years ago |
| This song has the most majestic, strikingly brilliant lyrics I've ever read in my life. Gaze in awe at the perfection, and don't forget to breathe. It will change your life. | |
| Opeth – The Devil's Orchard Lyrics | 9 years ago |
| Opeth doesn't write deep lyrics, never have. My guess is that these aren't about anything, they're just words that sound good. | |
| Mirrorthrone – No One By My Side Lyrics | 9 years ago |
|
Misanthropy, I hate the world, fuck you all. Besides an atheistic message this is the main theme that you'll find across all of his english lyrics, and it's very direct here. In the end he's thinking about whether or not he left some kind of positive impact, at least. |

| Mirrorthrone – The Fecal Rebellion Lyrics | 9 years ago |
|
Alright. Let me first say that these lyrics are fucking unbelievably good. This song is the work of a genius, in every way. As for the meaning, it's... it's what the title says. The rebellion of the fecal matter. That's really all it is. The point, I believe, if you could say that, is that such a ridiculous concept is executed with so much grace, as if it was about the war that ended humanity. Buried and chained deeply within our breasts Sworn to be forgotten, but alas in vain manifests? I mean... just... look at this, and then think of what it means. I don't know what the blaze is meant to represent. Sort of the point where it began, I guess. What I really get out of this is madness, and unbelievable anger and energy that has no target. That is what seems to be the inspiration for the track, and what I feel when I listen to the rant near the end (third last paragraph). The album has misanthropy written all over it, and Vladimir is clearly the kind of guy that is way too nice for this hostile world and uses his music as a vessel for his otherwise unspoken emotions. In many cases there is a clear message, here he just wanted to create something utterly insane. |

| Swans – I Was a Prisoner in Your Skull Lyrics | 9 years ago |
| @[Maige:10064] I don' think so. The whole speech is delivered in a really shitty sound quality. There are a lot of instances of a micro cutting in and out. Doesn't make sense for a monologue. | |
