at first I thought this was a masochistic song from the perspective of your vices, but that second pre chorus is really what sways me to believe this is a song about addiction and conformity, and even though this band is Christian, they talk all sorts of trash on religion and religious teachings. “You need another death just to have a life to save” couldn’t be more clear that it’s talking about the church, but then it goes on “you need a master just so you can beg, you need a light just because you’re so afraid, now bow and learn to be a good slave.” cmon now. |

Ben is talking to a woman who he was once in love with. the woman loved him too, but loved another man more than him during their relationship. the other man is a horrible influence. Ben is slave to the woman because of his feelings, so when she "calls his name" he's there to help her. because he cares. she's throwing "her life" away by being with the other guy. throwing Ben's life away by leaving, and throwing "our" life away by using him and not caring about their relationship. |

this song and all of Myles' work deserves much much more than one pissing comment. even his Mayfield Four stuff deserves as many comments as Metalingus might get. this is an artistic masterpiece, as most of his (if not all of his) vocal work is. hardest working guy in rock today, most under appreciated, and most underrated. best vocalist out there right now, in any genre. just because he's not as good looking as somebody from one direction is no excuse for people not liking him. he has a better voice than all 4 of those guys combined. smh. sorry for the rant I'm a little pissed |

I at first that this was about God, which I later discovered lyrics like "makeshift savior" and "I tried to let you go". Red is a Christian band so with that considered, what people have been saying on this forum is correct. this man was in love with a woman, so much so that he trusted her enough to show her his tortured past. He didn't realize it'd drive her away. whether that darkest part is being abusive to women, having a bad habit like drugs or alcohol, or not being fully connected with Jesus, there's no telling . but we know that it's about driving a woman away when revealing something deep inside yourself. |

So by far hold the most memories and means the most to me. Also that was the longest run on sentence in history. |
