The meaning of this song is interesting. After reading a lot of interpretation and the lyrical content itself I have some conclusion on what the song is trying to grasp at.
1. The song is talking about being human and a man who is tired of being the "Shoulder to cry on" that perhaps due to some unhinted reason someone is blaming him for things he did not do and he feels that we are all human and can make mistakes that this person ought to see how they behave before turning it on him.
2. Some people believe this is sort of a way he is avoiding responsibility for a mistake he has made, and asking people not to blame him, or make him take responsibility for their hurt.
3. This man is suggesting that people look deeper into being human and what it really means, that yes we are human and make mistakes but it does not mean we keep doing so it means that people need to stop blaming everything else other than themselves for issues. People need to stop asking for advice then blaming others for giving "bad advice" but learn to look at the " Man in the mirror" and sort out their own issues and that we are all human, and it's normal for humans to make mistakes and be lost.
My personal view on the subject is that it is a mixture of meaning 1,3 but I do feel that as a society on whole people needs to be more responsible because making certain mistakes is not correct.We cannot go through life blaming everyone else, but we also can't go through life not taking responsibility and using the excuse of being "only human". Forgiveness comes with change and self-reflection on our own behaviour. |

I like how he portrayed this, it's not the whole "cry me a river" vibe where he isn't really upset. It's almost light-hearted" I should have known better", but you will get yours so"Goodbye "I'm not sweating over it or thinking about it because it's not really for me to be angry or hold anger, just let you go and karma will do what she has to. Of course, he is upset when it happens, but it feels like he made peace with it rather easier than before.
I think karma already works when you lose someone who was really there for you and cared about you. That in itself is a loss, but people who are fickle, shallow and cheaters don't see that. They realise when something bad happens to them, but I like that he made an anthem for people who are in this zone, it's an interesting feeling not being really sad, but sort of at peace with people who have done you wrong. Forgive but don't forget vibe. |

I think he is calling out women who act like hoes, and how he plays along with them. He already knows they are just wanting him for sex/money/fame/attention. He is tired of being there for a woman he was committed to "ain't got no ring on this finger now" because she cheated on him. He now isn't going to waste his time on thinking too much or dealing with relationship stuff, or being someone's "Superman" because he is too wise for the bullshit now. |

To me, this song isn't a feminist song as people keep trying to label it. It's just simply a person ( in this case woman) standing up for herself and letting the man in her life know that she is not okay with how he has been behaving and treating her. Men also make mistakes and so do women. This is about self-worth and refusing to take abusive behavior. It's about sticking up for yourself and being assertive whatever gender you are and calling out someone who is treating you badly. (Why do people always leave, because they weren't being assertive, to begin with. Be assertive always and communicate. ) |

@[lyxxa:22215] I agree, except the part about "rule out commitment" I think it's more that they are in a fragile setting so he cannot get to the other problems that they have to work through, and he is cleansing his soul of his addictions or the addiction that is his love for her. Because of the trust he has to take a step back. |

This is my take:
I think it's sexual, but I think it's interesting because if you look beyond her "wild thoughts" she is struggling with her thoughts about this person, asking them to "keep it black and white". She is suggesting they cannot handle her, and that she is on the market?
It's almost like she can't be around this person because of her wild thoughts, but she feels he lacks something she is too "hip to hop around town with him".
It's a sort of flirtation if you look at Bryan Tiller lyrics his is " I probably shouldn't..." she is "when I get like this I can't be around you, I need to dim down a notch" very wild thoughts, but yet restraint.

Also, another way to look at it , can it be "wild thots" almost complaining about her lover, not being able to be around him because all she gets is "wild thots" that she has to deal with, and she wants to keep it "White and Black" like she is a "sister (nun) " because she thinks she is too "Hip to hop around town" with him. (Hip hop, Drake reference?)
She also is saying " I hope you know this cooking is for the baking, this kitty for the taking" so she is suggesting that she is up to be taken no really by the guy she is singing about, but even suggesting that she got wild thoughs, she knows how he is, sexually '68 Jets, but give it a rest, I think she is on the market, and wildin out ! |

I think it's about falling deeply in love with your partner, and you with them. "If this the the love the old folks used to warn me about". I think it's about two people who realise or are in a relationship and know for a fact they cannot live without the other. They need each other, and "someone please call 911" isn't being literal, but it's a metaphor used to express that he just "got shot down" by cupid's arrow and its gone through his soul. It's not just a feeling or a "new love" its a deep love, it's that ether that makes your soulllll burnnn soul.
I think they are scared of the ups and downs that happen in relationships and the struggles to come- because they love each other so much they don't want anything bad to happen- but the point is its worth the sacrifice, its worth fighting those fears and even going through those ups and downs as long as they are together. I think this is about someone who scared of true love, and it makes the very scared of nervous, but they want it.
"Messing around with me is going to get you life" life usually means life in prison, and it doesn't have to be negative. I think messing around with the "person" is going to "Get them life" together because they are made for each other, its one of those life long, forever type of loves that even if something happens and they cannot be together, they can't forget each other. |

Firstly, I would like to point out songs mean different things to different people, sometimes they are merely for enjoyment, sometimes they are for stress, sometimes we speak through them. The point is , we all will have different opinions and one is not more right than another.
My personal interpretation of this song is that it is not a religious one, I feel that it has to do with hope, and the feeling of being surrounded in darkness, and being alone wherever one turns. I feel it represents having faith in the future, and believing that there is a calm after the storm, and that ships will sail in safer waters once the tide has come down.
Its a very well composed song, the voice is beautiful, I enjoy this. |
