Stronger Than Me Lyrics
You should be stronger than me
You been here 7 years longer than me
Don't you know you supposed to be the man,
I pale in comparison to who you think I am,
You always wanna talk it through - I don't care!
I always have to comfort you when I'm there
But that's what I need you to do - stroke my hair!
Cos' I've forgotten all of young love's joy,
Feel like a lady, but you my lady boy,
You should be stronger than me,
But instead you're longer than frozen turkey,
Why'd you always put me in control?
All I need is for my man to live up to his role,
Always wanna talk it through- I'm ok,
Always have to comfort you every day,
But that's what I need you to do - are you gay?
I've forgotten all of young love's joy
Feel like a lady, but you my lady boy
He said 'the respect I made you earn -
Thought you had so many lessons to learn'
I said 'You don't know what love is - get a grip!' -
Sounds as if you're reading from some other tired script
I'm not gonna meet your mother anytime
I just wanna grip your body over mine
So tell me why you think that's a crime
I've forgotten all of young love's joy
Feel like a lady, but you my lady boy
You been here 7 years longer than me
Don't you know you supposed to be the man,
I pale in comparison to who you think I am,
I always have to comfort you when I'm there
But that's what I need you to do - stroke my hair!
Feel like a lady, but you my lady boy,
But instead you're longer than frozen turkey,
Why'd you always put me in control?
All I need is for my man to live up to his role,
Always wanna talk it through- I'm ok,

I think people have got this wrong.
Sensitive men are fine. Sensitive women are fine too. You do need that quality to an extent in order for a relationship to be successful and for the other person to feel understood and listened to. But I don't think that's what this song is about, nor is ultimately about gender and wanting a man to play the typical macho role. It's about the frustration that comes when your partner is so consumed in themselves and their own lives that they neglect you and become dependent. You become less of a girl/boyfriend and more like a mother.
"You always wanna talk it through - I don't care! I always have to comfort you when I'm there But that's what I need you to do - stroke my hair!"
First line I think is an expression of her being so frustrated and irritaed with always having to listen to her partner's problems constantly. The next two lines I think are about her frustration that, whilst she's there to take care of him, he can't even be bothered to return the gesture.
"Why'd you always put me in control? All I need is for my man to live up to his role,"
She's sick of taking the lead and being the one that provides direction in the relationship, which is fair enough. The other person has to pull their weight too.
"Always wanna talk it through- I'm ok, Always have to comfort you every day, But that's what I need you to do - are you gay?"
She's tired of talking, tired of being emotional, she's at the end of her line. She needs someone to support her too. I think the last line here let's the song down though, it's not very sophisticated and is insulting.
"I'm not gonna meet your mother anytime I just wanna grip your body over mine"
She wants a boyfriend and passion, not emotional humdrum.
That's my take on the song. Sensitive partners are fine, but partners that become so absorbed in their own issues that they fail to return the support aren't.
great analysis!! :) i'm so with you on this..

@Lusters I completely agree , this is also my interpretation of the song :)

seriouslyyyy. i'm a gay guy and i can relate to this song. i HATE that girly boy shit. BE A MAN. lol for reals though.
Always have to comfort you every day, But that's what I need you to do - are you gay?
Teehee.. Eh, not nice. No. caughs
I think she's looking for a real he-man, and the guy she's dating is kind of a pussy. Also, lines should be "I pale in comparison", and not "Not pal in comparison" "I just wanna grip your body over mine" instead of "rip".
ive been a relationship like this...its really annoying!! there are times when men need to be men
love
this song is about her looking for her man to take the macho, role. she is also reflecting by saying:
"I have forgotten all of young love's joy" which means when she was in the relationship with the man that was 7 years older, she of course thought it would be better because he was more mature. and now she misses the excitement from being with someone around her age.
its rather intresting because as the song progresses, shes getting more and more frustrated.
IE.
1-You always wanna talk it through - I don't care! 2-I always have to comfort you when I'm there 3-But that's what I need you to do - stroke my hair!
1- Always wanna talk it through- I'm ok, 2-Always have to comfort you every day, 3-But that's what I need you to do - are you gay?
if you compare both lines of 1, 2 and 3. the state of annoyance increases. the first line 3 shows extreme sarcasm, like.. " yeah what i need is for you to stroke my hair.."
damn everytime I hear this song its like she's singing it to me. I girlfriend broke up with me because she "feels like she has to bring me up all the time" and I'm never there to bring her up. Now whenever I hear this song I think of how much I need to change.
A man having some sensitivity doesn't make him any less of a man. I wish there actually were more men who possessed even half of those qualities.
@bouncehoper, FYI the correct lines are:
@diana_x hah, i agree. I guess its not about whether a sensitive man is 'right' or 'wrong'. Its just about what suits your needs best :-D
/Love moi.
