| Julian Casablancas – Ludlow St. Lyrics | 14 years ago |
|
Gonna agree with HertogHJ, worst song on the album (unless you're counting the ....christmas... one) What's with that solo? Why? Otherwise, tolerable. |
|
| Julian Casablancas – Glass Lyrics | 14 years ago |
|
After listening to this whole album high out of my mind, the entire album makes a lot of sense. It's like his own take on a cyber-punk alternate dimension world. This song is definitely the most climactic and my favorite. The chorus is just chilling. The way he leads into 'bulletproof glass' is pretty much perfect. |

"Blame yourself for once, quit putting it on me." Come on people, lets get the lyrics right. |
|
| The Strokes – Taken for a Fool Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| Julian swaps out words live all the time, this is no indication of the studio lyrics. | |
| The Strokes – Call Me Back Lyrics | 14 years ago |

Tell me, don't tell me The hard part is telling you Something that you would not like me to tell you |

Bless your heart Don't work so hard - - That's the first half of the chorus. |

| The Strokes – Under Cover of Darkness Lyrics | 14 years ago |
|
We got the rights and will fight to use it Got everything, so you can just choose it I won't just be a puppet on a string __ And I'm tired of all your friends, Listening at your door Oh I want what's better for you __ And they sacrificed their lives, And they lied about those odds, - |

| The Strokes – Life Is Simple In the Moonlight Lyrics | 14 years ago |

As I watch the velvet drapes appear And the door was closed for fourty years As we hide what we don't wanna hear While we hide whats really in our heads and He is coming from a part of how Were nightmares you have don't go down well He can tell that we're oblivious It's a fictional routine as well |

| The Strokes – Machu Picchu Lyrics | 14 years ago |
|
Putting your patience to the test Putting you body on the line for less Didn't you know it was a choice It's never yours but with someone else's voice Slipping your body to the street Serving your girlfriends to the knife, and cheat Wearing a jacket made of meat Ascending a ladder with with horse's feet And now you think that Words turn to grey Life in the shade A violent clock And that's all you would say Lightning's on the rise Playthings in the sky I'm just trying to find A mountain I can climb Putting your patience to test Putting your body on the line for less Didn't you know it was a choice It's never yours and someone else's voice And now you see that Words turn to grey Life in the shade A violent clock And that's all you would say Born on the rise Circles in disguise I'm just trying to find A mountain I can climb Tell us, when are they gonna Tell us, we're gonna be Oh so jealous We're gonna be always silent I didn't wanna hurt you baby I didn't wanna love you Alright Why are you waiting In the dark Life turns to dust Our waiting turns to rust Gossip is the truth Right before the night you took off Don't act so surprised ... I'm just trying to find Enough space for you and I |
|
| The Strokes – You're So Right Lyrics | 14 years ago |
|
Chorus: If I fight and I die Girl, I wanted to die This is really weird, but it makes sense, if you think about it. I think that's what he's saying through all that heavy synth and distortion anyway. |
|
| Interpol – The Undoing Lyrics | 14 years ago |
|
This is probably the best response on this page. Also, people are taking the meaning of the Spanish verse way too literally. |
|
| Gorillaz – Revolving Doors Lyrics | 15 years ago |
|
I think he might be singing "I feel that impulse, buy all the pills" |
|
| Interpol – Crimewaves Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| The word that you're saying is 'erratic' is sung as a four syllable word. 'Erratic' is a three syllable word. It's probably not erratic. | |
| Interpol – Roland Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| Dude I know this is about 5 years later, but for christ's sake, don't be such a goddamned bitch. I hope somebody tackles you into an open manhole on the street someday. Fucking elitist bastard. | |
| Interpol – The Undoing Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| I agree with this. While it's a fantastic interpretation, I don't see Interpol incorporating religion of any form into their music. It's just as Paul has always said, it's really up to the person listening to decide what it means to them. | |
| Interpol – Crimewaves Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| That may be a possibility with the exception of erratic. It sounds like he's saying something like erraputic or irrepudent (neither of which are words). Not erratic. | |
| Interpol – Crimewaves Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| Though I'll admit some lines still sound incorrect. | |
| Interpol – Crimewaves Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| Very enlightening, thanks much! | |
| Interpol – Barricade Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| Confirmed for 'Bees and snakes' instead of 'Thieves and snakes'. | |
| Interpol – Barricade Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| The lyrics are confirmed for 'Bees and snakes' instead of 'Thieves and snakes'. | |
| Interpol – Lights Lyrics | 15 years ago |
|
Here's something interesting. The longer you go without something (be it food, water, shelter, company, whatever) the more you're going to appreciate that thing while you have it. To me, it's sounding like the song is from the narrator to his love interest. He's been without love for a long time, and through all the shit he's endured, he still loves her genuinely (hence: "That's why I hold you, that's why I hold you dear"). Even though life might be bad, he still has her. |
|
| Interpol – Safe Without Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| He sings the first consonant of that word so softly it could be either one... I'm hesitant to change it just yet. After a listen through of the actual legitimately released album through headphones I'm sure it'll sound much clearer. | |
| Interpol – The Undoing Lyrics | 15 years ago |
|
I wasn't going for a literal translation, google translate can give me that. I'm going for the meaning behind the chorus. And from the look of it, yours is pretty close to what I wrote as well. As for the Spanish, Paul is fluent in the language, much like he is with English and French (Though French maybe not so much as the other two). I thought the Spanish chorus ruined the song the first time I heard it, but I prefer it to anything he could have sung in English now. |
|
| Interpol – All of the Ways Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| It's much more complex than jealousy. It's that single moment where everything you've known, your entire world with someone else, just falls apart in front of you and there's nothing you can do about it. The way he sings "Who is this guy?" saturates me. | |
| Interpol – Leif Erikson Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| They stated in an interview that, when the keyboard track was singled out, it had a specifically viking-esque sound to it; so they gave the song the arbitrary title "Lief Erikson". | |
| Interpol – Barricade Lyrics | 15 years ago |
|
Uh oh guys... I think I might have made a mistake. After watching the Barricade music video, it looks and sound like he's saying "Bees and snakes need homes" instead of "Thieves and snakes need homes". Can anyone else notice this difference? I could have sworn he sang 'Thieves' live in Chicago... but it's so subtle it's hard to tell. I really hope I'm just crazy, because part of the reason I love this song so much was in that line, connecting thieves and snakes as outcasts/vagabonds in the same boat. HELP! |
|
| Interpol – All of the Ways Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| Yes, thanks for that! | |
| Interpol – Safe Without Lyrics | 15 years ago |
|
My guess is that he's "Safe Without" the other person's advice/suggestions, and he's tired of hearing what they have to tell him and molding to what they want. I'm not the hero out the gates: nobody is perfect So much to feel so much to gain: you have to experience things for yourself My higher reason will take aim: I can judge and decide for myself I'll be ok I've got my shapes: I know what is right and wrong for me We are not alone we share our stake: There's other stuff out there to behold I think the winter will be wonderful: I look forward to something new, something different, change |
|
| Interpol – The Undoing Lyrics | 15 years ago |
|
I'm not fluent in Spanish, but the general meaning I'm getting from the chorus (btw, google translate sucks) is this: I've lost, I've lost I've come undone Always losing, and never winning |
|
| Interpol – Lights Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| After seeing them perform this song twice live, I'd hope I have it correct by now. This is what he sings live. | |
| Interpol – Lights Lyrics | 15 years ago |
|
All that I see Show me your ways Teach me to meet my desires With some grace All that I fear Dont turn away And leave me to plead in this hole of a place Cause what if I never break Estuary Wont you take me Far away Far away All that I seek Please police me I want you to police me But keep it clean How have you been, my day Now lets take them away Strong as you seem Old as you behave You'll always obey All that I feel Capital ways Teach me to grieve and conspire With my age All that I can see A domestic spree A seething routine I could never navigate Well maybe I like to stray No hardened scene Will be left so clean Not today Its like you want it that way All that I see Is peaceful eyes Drawn away from me Drawn away from me We'd like to take the sights And breed silence in disguise We'd like to meet the buyer That is on your life That's why I hold you That's why I hold you That's why I hold you That's why I hold you That is why I hold you dear That's why I hold you That is why I hold you near That's why I hold you That is why I hold you dear That's why I hold you That is why I hold you near |

No hardened scene will be left so clean Not today I just saw these guys live, I'm 100% on this. |
|
| Interpol – Try It On Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| I can't believe this hasn't gotten any comments yet. This is my absolute favorite song off the album, it's so beautiful and bittersweet. I get to see these guys in concert two nights in a row starting tomorrow. | |
| Interpol – All of the Ways Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| yeah, that's the only line I have no clue what's being said... | |
| Interpol – Lights Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| The lyrics still need to be fixed =\ | |
| Interpol – Lights Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| Lucky! I get to see them two days in a row in Chicago this August, I cannot wait. | |
| Interpol – The Lighthouse Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| Crap, allow me to correct myself on the second line, it shouldn't have been changed. | |
| Interpol – The Lighthouse Lyrics | 15 years ago |
|
Replace "lucid" with "lucent" and the lyrics are more accurate. Here I've been vain I'm lucent from sin I put an outward, "Begin, begin." Here I've been lucent I'm living within Inwardly urgent And sinking again |

| Interpol – Mind Over Time Lyrics | 15 years ago |
|
"It's Paul (STATIC), and, um, it would've been really good to see you, man. Uh, I don't know if I've been away. (STATIC) But uh, you didn't stay long so I just wanted to tell you that it would've been good to see you, you know? [Good to see you] And uh, it's a shame it didn't work out. But uh, if we could've gotten together for that little recording, it might've been a good experience. But eh, maybe after the holidays, um. Listen, call me anytime, please. If you're sure you're not too busy If you ever need to, just call me, right? Bye. Hope your holidays go well." |

Let the perceptions/interpretations begin, I'd love to know what's being said during the break. Input, go. |
|
| Interpol – Lights Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| Ah, I think this is our closest set yet. Excellent job. | |
| Interpol – Lights Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| As I mentioned in my post, it was my own interpretation of the song. I don't believe it's too uncommon when someone hears something differently. | |
