The White Stripes – Though I Hear You Calling, I Will Not Answer Lyrics 12 years ago
The start of it is actually the end of the recording of Meg singing Silent Night on the Merry Christmas from the White Stripes record. It is "round yon virgin". Jack told her the wrong lyrics which is why she says that at the end.

I agree, I don't think this is condescending, I think it's just traditional- about the gentleman rescuing the lady. Simple. No need to take offence from it.

Jack White – Hip (Eponymous) Poor Boy Lyrics 12 years ago
I don't think it's about her being lazy, I think it's just about the fact that the White Stripes was his 'thing' but that he had to rely on her for that and she didn't want to do it anymore.
Definitely with 'let the stripes unfurl' and 'I'll be using your name' too. I think it's obvious but I guess to some it might not be if they don't know the imagery and were purely judging it on his solo work without background White Stripes knowledge.

Jack White – Hip (Eponymous) Poor Boy Lyrics 12 years ago
I dont think he was making her out to be lazy, I think it's more kind of bitterness because the White Stripes had to end and it was really his baby. I doubt he's trying to be mean about it.

Jack White – On and On and On Lyrics 12 years ago
The sun and the moon never change
They just rearrange
The night and the new day
Gold exchanges for silver
And the light on a river
Gets carried away

On and on, on and on

I lift my head up and I wonder
Just who is it
Calling my name now
I trip on my way and I blunder
My head falling under
A blanket of shame

On and on, on and on

High and low may I go
But God only knows
Just where I am going

The people around me
Wont let me become what I need to
They want me the same
I look at myself and I want to
Just cover my eyes and
Give myself a new name

The stones in the sky never worry
They don't have to hurry
They move in their own way
But I have to choose what to do
How to act, what to think
How to talk, what to say

On and on, on and on

Jack White – Missing Pieces Lyrics 12 years ago
Wow so many mistakes. Eye spots??? Lol!

I was in the shower so I couldn't tell my nose was bleeding
Dripped down my body to the floor right below my feet
Looked in the mirror in my face, I thought I had a disease

And there's a woman with her fingers in my icebox
She peeked around the corner asked me if I'm okay
She put the ice upon my tongue and then it melted away

Alright, oak floor, soft pine bedroom door, yeah
Speak easy, make her mine if she's bored, yeah
And there's a dry pine ceiling that is out of my reach

I woke up and my hands were gone, yeah
I looked down and my legs were long gone
I felt for her with my shoulder but there was nobody there

I thought she left a note, just a tag on the pillow there
And then I noticed there's a rag next to my ear
The clock was ringing but it wasn't nothing that I could hear

Sometimes someone controls everything about you
And when they tell you that they can't live without you
They ain't lying, they'll take pieces of you
And they'll stand above you
And walk away, that's right
And take a part of you with them

I definitely thought this and Hypocritical Kiss were about Meg!

Anyway the words the verse with words missing is
"Call me whatever you may
I aint stopping the train
I got a pill for the pain
Hip eponymous poor boy, poor boy"

Jack White – Freedom At 21 Lyrics 12 years ago
I like this song, but I disagree when people are like "its a rap". It is not a rap, the beat is hiphoppy, but singing fast is not the same as rapping.

Anyway, I think it's about a girl being completely absorbed by all the technology around her and not forming proper relationships with people around her as a result.

Jack White – Blunderbuss Lyrics 12 years ago
I think it's about two people who are having an affair that's turning into real love, and everybody knows and obviously see it as immoral. He's asking why it has to be such a bad thing- why is it a crime to feed their need for each other?

Jack White – Blunderbuss Lyrics 12 years ago
It goes like this:

I had my dream, I held your hand on that broad avenue
We crossed the road and never spoke to another as we flew
We left your man alone in drag laughing there at us
A romantic bust, a blunder turned, explosive blunderbuss

An ancient grand hotel of Persian thread and ivory
And when your man would turn his head I'd see you look at me
Pools of brown and sea of red and demons in your pocket
That same romance performed a dance inside a silver locket

Da da da da
Da da da da

A corner exit not tall enough to walk out standing straight
Designed by men so ladies would have to lean back in their gait
You grabbed my arm and left with me but you were not allowed to
You took me to a public place to quietly blend into
Such a trick pretending not to be doing what you want to
But it seems like everybody does this every waking moment

I laid you down and touched you like the two of us both neeeded
Safe to say that others might not approve of this and pleaded
"So selfish them" would be their cry and who'd be brave to argue?
Doing what to people need is never on the menu

Da da da da
Da da da da

Jack White – Hypocritical Kiss Lyrics 12 years ago
I don't really wanna go down the whole 'this is definitely about Meg' route, but I think out of the whole album, this is actually most likely to be about her.

I think the first two verses are told from his point of view and the last two are told from her point of view, and is about some kind of conflict they had but it's both of their faults- however he blames himself.

No it's definitely "could be a nail in my coffin" not "quit being..."

The Kills – Wild Charms Lyrics 12 years ago
Was it Jamie or Alison that wrote this?
If it is a Kate song (which makes sense with the doting boys by her side), then maybe DNA is the response to it.

But to be honest I don't think it's about Kate because it sounds as if he's mourning the fact that he sucked all the beauty out of a relationship or a person he was in a relationship with.
Or maybe that person lost interest in him when he got too enthusiastic.

I don't think it's necessary even a personal account of anything in Jack's life but maybe someone he knows well. I do think it is about a younger girl but not in a creepy way.

The White Stripes – White Moon Lyrics 12 years ago
Okay so I've come round to thinking that this is definitely about his relationship with Meg, and his fascination with Rita Hayworth is a metaphor for how he wanted to be successful and famous and was forever chasing this glamour, but that to catch up with it he and Meg's relationship had to be sacrificed in the name of the band ('I've given up all I know to get more'). When he finally did catch up with "Rita" he realised that it wasn't real but obviously he and Meg were already over. The promising to not lead her on part may be about their actual marriage and how it's supposed to be forever and sacred, but then the second 'she' is the dream he was chasing so eagerly he really didn't realise what he was losing in the proces.

Just Jack – Starz In Their Eyes Lyrics 13 years ago
This song predates Amy Winehouse's drug problems. The first explanation is right. It's just about the pitfalls of fame, that you want it despite what it can do to you and the fast industry. Contrast between what we imagine fame to be like and the reality of it.

Avril Lavigne – Smile Lyrics 13 years ago
This is the best song on the album. I think it's about being in a slightly messed up but fun relationship, that maybe it isn't/wasn't perfect, but there are no regrets.

What a stupid comment. Typical man.

Loretta has always tackled controversial issues of the day. Here she is singing about how woman were liberated by the contraceptive pill, and how it enabled them to be more than just baby making machines.

The Kills – Gypsy Death And You Lyrics 13 years ago
Maybe the fact we don't know if she's laughing or crying is part of the beauty and mythology of the song. 'Gypsy death' could be a play on words, is it a drug overdose or is it gypsy in the literal travelling sense of the word?
I feel this song might be about when Alison toured with the Dead Weather. The 'she' could actually be 'Jamie'. It's just a theory :)

I don't think it's about suicide I think it's about people not caring about their fellow people, simple as that. And he just wants to see how far he has to go to get them to care (in a metaphoric, not literal, jumping off a bridge sense).

Jack White – Another Way To Die Lyrics 13 years ago
I too hated this song when I first heard it. I thought 'what the hell are you doing, Jack?' Alicia Keys has a powerful voice but their voices just didn't mesh well. However it grew on me with a few listens and after the movie it makes sense. It pretty much is a continuation of Casino Royale, and how Bond felt at the end of that and how that feeling is a backdrop for Quantum of Solace.

Jack White – Fly Farm Blues Lyrics 13 years ago
What, no comments? I know we see Jack actually write this in It Might Get Loud but that doesn't mean there's nothing to interpret, it's a good song :)

I think it's about being with somebody to get something out of it- but you get a whole bunch of stuff you don't want from that somebody, too. And he tells her if she doesn't stop he'll leave, but only after he's taken everything he wants/needs. And she doesn't believe him. But at the end, he does leave, true to his word, with everything she ever had.

The White Stripes – Who's a Big Baby? Lyrics 13 years ago
Well screw you guys I like it BECAUSE it's weird.

No it is Meg singing, Jack says 'shh' and 'i want my mummy' by the sounds of it. But the rest is all Meg. I have no idea if it is actually about Renee, though if it is, it does fit her like a glove from what I've heard. But lets not diss Renee Zellweger/Zellwegger/Zelweggar/Zzzzz... Bridget Jones.

Oasis – Go Let It Out Lyrics 13 years ago
I think this song is about hedonism (in a good way)- doing whatever the hell you feel like doing to make yourself feel better/good.

My favourite line is 'ordinary people that are like you and me/we're the keepers of their destiny'- that's clearly such a working class line about how it's really the working class ruling the world because the ruling class fear an uprising so they have to cater to the working class :)

The Dead Weather – Hustle and Cuss Lyrics 13 years ago
Not sure about this. I can't believe nobody's commented, this is a great song.

I can only think of an intepretation for the second verse "when we were young/ a different kind of fun/playing in the mud/it meant something else" I think it's about sexualisation. You lose your innocence and get a dirty mind, basically.

The Dead Weather – Blue Blood Blues Lyrics 13 years ago
I like maxperkins' thinking.

I don't know what it's about. I've spent a long time trying to figure it out to no avail, but I was wondering whether 'blue blood' is a reference to those of a aristocratic background (blue blooded people) and that he's "dripping blue blood from his wrist" that even though he is seperated from ordinary people by his wealth and fame, he still feels and he lets that out through the songs.
That kind of ties in with "when you give me the task you leave me broke and shirtless"- he's as vulnerable as anyone else, which is shown through the music.

Maybe the part "check your lips at the door woman/ shake your hips like battleships" is about temptation to stray from what he's loyal to because the opportunity is always there because of who he is- either through people he knows or through fans or groupies, taking the idea that the White maybe should be capitalised, so it's "all the White girls trip when I sing at sunday service"- him being Jack White, singing, he had a religious upbringing but he does rock'n'roll, so girls like the fact he's the good boy gone bad, or vice versa.

The part about having the face he tried to erase might be about the fact he tried hard to hide from the fame and notoriety in the early days, but he's embraced it knowing that he could live without it now if he wanted to. When he says "if I left you woman, you know" I'm thinking he was aiming it at somebody, don't know who, but just playing on his own words.

The Beatles – Strawberry Fields Forever Lyrics 13 years ago
Strawberry Fields is a type of LSD. And an orphanage. I'm pretty sure John Lennon knew this, therefore wrote the song to have a double meaning as well. Songwriters always do this. It's what makes them smart. Don't get touchy over the LSD reference, its only acid, in a song written like 40 years ago.
I think it's about escape either way you look at it.

The Rolling Stones – Country Honk Lyrics 13 years ago
Haha, Keith intended Honky Tonk Women to be like this from the start, but the rest of the band liked the other version of it better, so this just got renamed Country Honk and shoved down the setlists, whereas Honky Tonk Women ended up being released.
