Another Way To Die Lyrics

(feat. Alicia Keys)

I know the player
with the slick
trigger finger
for Her Majesty
Another one
with the
golden tone voice
and then your fantasy
Another bill
from a killer
turned a thrill
into a tragedy

Chorus
A door left open
A woman walking by
A drop in the water
A look in the eye
A phone on the table
A man on your side
Someone that you think
that you can trust is just
Another way to die

Another tricky little gun
giving solace to the one
that will never see
the sunshine
Another inch of your life
sacrificed
for your brother
in the nick of time
Another dirty money,
heaven sent honey
turning on a dime

Chorus
A door left open
A woman walking by
A drop in the water
A look in the eye
A phone on the table
A man on your side
Someone that you think
that you can
trust is just
Another way to die

Wo-oh-oh-oh-oh-oah!
Oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh!
Oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh!
Oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh!

Another girl
with her finger
on the world singing
to you what you wanna hear
Another gun thrown down
and surrendered
took away your fear
Hey!
Another man
that stands right
behind you
looking in the mirror

Chorus
Oh, a door left open
A woman walking by
A drop in the water
A look in the eye
A phone on the table
A man on your side
Oh,
someone that you think
that you can trust
is just another way to die

I really hated this when I first heard it - I thought it was much too rough to be a Bond theme, even for the grittier Daniel Craig films, and generally didn't like the song at all. However, when I saw Quantum of Solace it made much more sense - it fit the opening credits perfectly and set the tone for the film really well, so I take back everything I ever said about it being crap. As for the meaning? I know Jack White wrote the song, but I totally see it being from Bond's perspective - I think it carries on from Casino Royale, where Vesper, the one person James really cared about, betrayed him; hence the lines "Someone that you think that you can trust is just another way to die." Maybe I'm being pretentious, but to me, the music and lyrics mirror Bond's mind-set - the events of Casino Royale have made him more aggressive and cynical but also hurt, so it makes sense for the song to sound rougher and messier, and for the lyrics to be detatched and a little paranoid. /thesis But yeah, bloody great song.

I feel like the first part Alicia Keys sings she says "Another one with the golden tongue poisoning your fantasy."

I love the sound of this song. As radiogoogoo said, it's so gritty and rough, perfect for quantum of solace. I also think this song is a little bit badass, larger than life. It's a great way for Bond to make his entrance in the opening credits.

I also think the really good use of the kit in the background during the chorus gives the song a driven feeling, of moving forward, even running away. It's perfect.

woot. first one. well, i might as well explain what it means to me so this wont just be an "in your face" comment.

i kinda see this hitwoman who can't get close to any of her lovers because she's sent to kill them.. and in killing them, she kills a little of herself. it kinda tells the story of both sides of the relationship in the single verse. anyway, i love how both their styles are meshed, and it blends beautifully.

Yeah, nice clash! I really like these two spectacular singers/song-writers! Jack White is sooo handsome and Keys is soooo beautiful.

I'm surprised the music video's color scheme wasn't black/red. (:

Wow I really love this song. Jack said in an interview that it was about trust and it's clear that that's the basic theme but there's loads up for interpritation I think. I was surprised at how edgy and atmospheric this turned out.

okay i agree with radiogoogoo. i think it's from james' perspective. i think it's about him not being able to trust anyone and it's made him pessimistic and cynical, and all of that is him trying to hide the hurt and emotions behind it, from being betrayed by vesper, someone who he loved and trusted. so being betrayed by her has made him that much more guarded. "Someone that you think that you can trust is just another way to die." is referring to vesper i think. anddd the line "giving solace to the one that will never see the sunshine" is also i think referring to james spending the whole movie searching for revenge and doing anything he can to find out if vesper really loved him or was only pretending to save her other boyfriend. he's trying to find a way to put vesper to rest, but he needs to find out about the people who blackmailed vesper anddd her old boyfriend in order to do so. and he does in the end of the movie. so sad for james

I too hated this song when I first heard it. I thought 'what the hell are you doing, Jack?' Alicia Keys has a powerful voice but their voices just didn't mesh well. However it grew on me with a few listens and after the movie it makes sense. It pretty much is a continuation of Casino Royale, and how Bond felt at the end of that and how that feeling is a backdrop for Quantum of Solace.

I think the starting line is actually: "Another ringer With a slick trigger finger, For her majesty, Another one, With the golden tongue poisoning your fantasy"
