Current 93 – Hitler As Kalki Lyrics 8 years ago
Kalki is the tenth and last avatar of Vishnu, the embodiment of destruction. There's some fringe cults who see Hitler as the incarnation of this last avatar, who failed because he wasn't destructive enough.

A song for the future. May our silver successors listen to these stupid carbon animals who saw their temptation... even before they were born.

Opeth – The Devil's Orchard Lyrics 9 years ago
The actual lyrics from the booklet are:

This trail is obsidian, the grip of Winter uncoiled
A lover would follow me
Cast down and sworn to the dark

Take the road where devils speak:
"God is dead"

The wealth of darkness
Inside you, telling you "now"
Your senses corrupted
Controlling a poisonous will

Take the road where devils speak:
"God is dead"

In the corner of my eye
You are tearing flesh from bone

Led the blind in search to find
A pathway to the sun
Saw the signs intertwine
And forgave me all my sins

No stigmas revealing your vices
And there are no stigmas revealing our vices

God is dead

**

Personally I think it's about schizophrenia (using demonic possession as a metaphor), but who knows.

Opeth – Slither Lyrics 9 years ago
The booklet makes it pretty clear anyways: "Slither" recorded as a tribute in the memory of Ronnie James Dio.

Opeth – I Feel the Dark Lyrics 9 years ago
Actually it seems pretty clear it's about sexual abuse, using the rather common "she seduced me" excuse.

Opeth – Häxprocess Lyrics 9 years ago
It's about the Assassin's Creed franchise of videogames, which Mikael enjoys playing while listening to Judas Priest and Alice Cooper.

You see, from the point of view of the main character, first he mentions how you have the memories of your ancestors inside you (lifeline in a drop of blood) and how the discoveries concerning the pieces of eden are affecting his religiousness (a dying wish to shun a god). He keeps in the animus, bound by the need of sync (sought a dream inside the light) but at the same time he's relieved from the troubles in RL (finally relieved from plight) and so on and on. And the title (witch trial), it's an obvious nod towards the templars, who are the main antagonists.

Hey it could be, couldn't it.

Nevermore – And The Maiden Spoke Lyrics 9 years ago
More like the opposite imporpaattur. This song is about when Warrel Dane spent the night in a haunted house. he said he heard many strange sounds coming from downstairs and he had a dream about five woman who were saying random phrases to him. When he awoke, one of his friends he was staying with told him about the generations of many woman who lived in that house.

Nevermore – The Termination Proclamation Lyrics 9 years ago
"The lines of right and wrong are blurred in the name of freedom"? Anti-abortion or not, definitely it seems like someone at Nevermore had a change of heart.

Moonrise inside his head? Mmm... The moon has always been related to madness.

Nevermore – Forever Lyrics 9 years ago
After seven minutes of silence there's the same weird sounds of the beginning of the album and a last sentence. "She's been waiting for you" I think.

Coming alongside the 'straight' sound of a heart rate monitor, I'm inclined to think the lyrical self of the album killed himself at the end hoping to see her again, and the voice, whether an allucination or the real deal, is Satan's. Creepy.

Soilwork – Spirits Of The Future Sun Lyrics 10 years ago
Great song, one of the best examples of melodeath around.

About the lyrics there isn't much to be said. They are clearly not the focus her, but you can figure it concerns the same murderer or whatever character the album follows, his self-perceived badassery and how he seem to enjoy to see other people suffering.

Sleep – Dopesmoker Lyrics 10 years ago
Pretty much a one hour anthem about marijuana and it's effects, including how it brings a peaceful feeling of slowness and then a easy sleep and wakeup in the end unlike alcohol. Also it seems like the band is comparing smoking pot to some sort of religious experienc.

Nevermore – This Godless Endeavor Lyrics 10 years ago
I agree with some of the comments so far. It is about one being disillusioned with science but also unwillingly to believe in any religion and entering a state of despair for being unable to find an answer. It ends with a note pointing out that only death will bring any answer at all.

I think the song is about making a depressed person angered by showing them how 'pathethic' their condition is so they can stand back on their feet.

Dark Tranquillity – Iridium Lyrics 10 years ago
Most likely it isabout describing a massive and splendorous meteor collision. Iridium is an extremely rare metal often found on meteorites on greater quantities. It "falls into the creation's core" which could somewhere in Earth rich on life like the a rainforest and brings "an end beyond compare" referring to a massive extinction event. The part which says "mantle of stars, strangely they fall" likely refers to shooting stars coming from the meteorite.
About the dinosaurs? Possibly.

Dark Tranquillity – Not Built To Last Lyrics 10 years ago
I think it is about how most relationships are doomed to end even if them seem to be solid as rock, but ends with a positive note saying it is "a part of life that makes the weak hearts grow".

Nevermore – The Heart Collector Lyrics 10 years ago
Interesting from you to come with that Doghouse. Before reading your post, I already thought the lyrics meant pretty much like it.
The heart collector is someone who simply does not care about others and lure emotionaly weak people, using them while manipulating them to believe in a romantic relationship and stuff before kicking their asses to oblivion. A lot of men think women often do that and vice versa :D

Soilwork – The Chainheart Machine Lyrics 10 years ago
The rest of the album follows a concept, likely about a murderer of some kind. That's actually the last song in the album, notice how it fits perfectly after the post-Room 99 sounds. The guy died and devil came to claim his soul and such.

Earth is the third planet from the Sun, so I guess there is something to do with the title.

submissions
Opeth – White Cluster Lyrics 11 years ago
The phrase "I will come for you" could mean the character wishes to believe in the presence of some sort of afterlife just as he's about to be executed, or could be interpreted as being from the point of view of the hangman "hangman clutching at his tools, I will come for you" although I think the prior is the more likely.

I think the "touch" he feels at the very end is the imaginary touch of Melinda - a hallucination just prior to death.

Just another possible interpretation, unlikely since Opeth writes romantic lyrics (meaning things usually ends well after a lot of suffering) instead of a realistic, naturalistic style.

Opeth – Serenity Painted Death Lyrics 11 years ago
"Serenity Painted Death" begins when the outcast awakens to find Melinda has been taken and her throat slit for her being 'unfaithful' to the church, which she was supposed to be "married" to. Consumed by pent up pain and rage, he brutally kills the soldiers who had killed Melinda, in a momentous and final act of aggression. In a frenzy of rage he assaults and kills every soldier he can before he succumbs and collapses in total exhaustion. When he regains control over his mind, the Council of the Cross is there to take him.

Opeth – Face Of Melinda Lyrics 11 years ago
"Face of Melinda" paints the black-haired lady as a quiet, brooding creature as he approaches her. After his failure to court her, she was sworn to the life of a nun, however, he does not give up, plotting to have her back to fill his emptiness. He is disheartened, but tells her about all that he had risked to return to her. She tells him of her own moral failings, but surprises even herself when she tells him that she still loves him. The song ends with a grim clue of what's to come - "and baffled herself with the final line - 'my promise is made but my heart is thine'", implying these are Melinda's very final words.

submissions
Opeth – Moonlapse Vertigo Lyrics 11 years ago
"Moonlapse Vertigo" is a reminder that the people of the town would kill him if they realized he was there. The song references the Council of the Cross, referring to the Christian government, who openly show scorn for the disgraced and the poor. He realizes that he has no time left to flee from the country and decides to meet Melinda at last and lead her out of the country with him. In this song the outcast really shows his immense hate towards the Council.

submissions
Opeth – Benighted Lyrics 11 years ago
"Benighted" reads like a love letter, basically an unspoken ode to Melinda. The outcast tries to convince her to come with him because he loves her. He tries to convince her to abandon her religion which is like a chain around her neck in his eyes.

submissions
Opeth – Godhead's Lament Lyrics 11 years ago
"Godhead's Lament" finds the outcast attempting to conceal his return. He contemplates the consequences, considering leaving for safety's sake, but does not, his desire to see Melinda again outweighing any concerns for his welfare. He watches her from afar, only to discover that she has become a nun (godhead). Yet he still tries to get her back.

submissions
Opeth – The Moor Lyrics 11 years ago
Actually I think now the main character was shunned by his community because he was an atheist and that's his only "deformation", so to speak. He was called an "ungodly freak - defiler", and was "branded a Jonah with fevered blood". He was beaten, burned, covered with mud, and banished from his town, returning 15 years later for his love Melinda, whom he had to leave behind when he was banished.

Blind Guardian – Fly Lyrics 11 years ago
It's not about neverland, it is about SEX.

"Stop, be quiet now, Out with the light and, Then up and down it goes" <- sounds pretty clear to me.
"Step out of line, And I'll teach you how to fly" <- classical seduction sentence lol.
"Leave your mark, leave your mark in the land of mine" <- the girl wants to be pregnant.
"Don't stop it now, she still enjoys the scene Don't stop it now, don't stop it now, don't stop it now,
don't stop it now, now, now" <- here's the climax.

Opeth – The Moor Lyrics 11 years ago
The Moor here is like a swamp, a place of rotten waters, not a black muslim: "Passing swiftly through the moor" - you can't pass through a black muslim, can you?
The guy was born deformed and considered an aberration: "Ungodly freak, defiler", so he was banished to this place, but came back because of Melinda.

Opeth – Porcelain Heart Lyrics 11 years ago
It is about giving up in someone you though will would love forever: "I said that I loved (eternal schemes), I promised to stay (and held my breath), I went far away"
Then he is filled with regret and cannot forget what he have done: "I wallowed in shame, I cling to my past"
Finally he's telling the story to someone, most likely a kid, warning him to do not believe in real love, because it would only bring pain at the end, using himself as an example: "Kept inside our idle race, Ghost of an idol's false embrace, Rest your head now, don't you cry, Don't ever ask the reason why"

submissions
Opeth – Harvest Lyrics 11 years ago
It's about someone dying from suicide, maybe with his lover at his side (first part), and then going to hell instead of heaven because of suicide: "wilted scenes for us who couldn't await". Then at the funeral, the lover is mourning about his death and he does not want her to act so (chorus) and the end recalls the beginning of the song with the reaction of his lover after his death, maybe.
