The Sun Fired Blanks Lyrics

Upon our evening
When the sun fired blanks
There rode the sickness
Out of our sight
Carried torches
Burned out long before it's time
Among these ruins
Where our love is to be found

Ambition falters
When no better is to be known
Cling to the unfounded pride

Death to our belonging
And our ministry of two
Set the higher standard
And to a greater fall descend

Slaves to one another
And to others be it not
Soothing be temptation
Force the conscience to a halt

Cause a high vibration
A tender light to be part of you
The two-way escape

Death to our belonging
And our ministry of two
Set the higher standard
And to a greater fall descend

I think this song is about a couple that feel they are not perfect for eachother. Because they feel they are not perfect for eachother, they break up and go to find their "soul mate," not realizing that they were eachothers' soulmates, even though they did not fit together perfectly. So they end up with nobody instead of eachother, since they cannot find a person that fits them perfectly. Whether or not they get back together is hard to tell. the last two lines of the first stanza seems to indicate they do, though.
