"First, thank you very much for a wonderful show in Santa Barbara. It was my 9 year old daughter’s (Middle name Simon pronounced Simone) first concert. So he is really saying that. I've spent years trying to figure out what he was saying. It sounded to obvious to be the obvious. Is this line like in "Hey, Jude?" The one that McCartney wrote planning to change it later but Lennon told him to leave it the way it was?

I read (I think Wikipedia) that this song was part of a trilogy of songs Simon wrote about his friend dying. The other two were "Do You Believe in Shame" and "Ordinary World."

I'm in love with this song. I can't imagine anybody could possibly hate this song after they hear it. "Missing" is truly a masterpiece that everyone needs to experience at least once in a lifetime. Such a showcase of the talent involved.
