Oh thanks whoaohbrandi...I was wondering why I couldn't find this song anywhere, and that's why. Anyway, it's a really nice break-up song. |

This is definitely one of my favorite songs on the album. It's probably more complicated than I can imagine, but it seems the main idea is wanting to let go and just have a good time. I'm seeing them in concert in a few weeks...so excited! |

| Solomon Burke – Cry to me Lyrics

In response to the "her perfume" thing, another idea might be that the song is being sung from a female perspective. Just because Solomon Burke is a man doesn't mean this song is from his perspective, you know?
What a nice song. It really catches that feeling of loneliness. |

Wow, I just heard this on the radio for the first time in years and I got really excited. I've never heard someone sing the word "placenta" and make it sound so beautiful. If this isn't a perfect song, I don't know what is. |

| *NSYNC – Digital Get Down Lyrics

While this may not have been the most appropriate song for them, I certainly don't think it caused them to "go downhill." This song wasn't even released as a single, so I doubt it had that much of an impact on how they were viewed by the public. It's just a song, a hilariously forward one at that. |

I think this song is about opening your mind to new possibilities and not being so oblivious to everything (When you lose small mind, you free your life). What an amazing song.. words to live by. |

| Turin Brakes – Self Help Lyrics

In response to jolarti...Maybe the song is about struggling to find success as a musician. You'll come upon some hard times where nothing seems to be working out, but you have to keep telling yourself that it will be worth it in the end. That would make sense with the "Remind yourself that you're not just in it for the money" line, like you're also in it for the 'love of the game.' Could be a lot of things, but I really love this song & Turin Brakes in general. |

Maybe about a secret that's haunting someone? Like at first he really wanted to know about it, but then it freaked him out so much that he can't get it out of his head. Hmm... |

| Three Days Grace – Never Too Late Lyrics

I think the meaning is pretty self-explanitory: trying to convince a suicidal friend that life is worth living. Adam sings the last line with so much emotion and passion... it basically makes me cry. Good song. |

This song is about people who are mentally ill and how they are isolated from society. P.S., go watch The Wall. |

| Nine Inch Nails – Every Day Is Exactly the Same Lyrics
| 17 years ago
|
I agree that this song is about the apathy of going through the same motions every day, but I also think it's about someone who has a bad history of depression/suicidal thoughts or even drug use.
Because of this...
I can feel their eyes are watching
In case I lose myself again
His/her issues have come to light before and now everyone knows about it. He/she doesn't want to be this way and doesn't know where it came from, but he/she has no idea how to stop it. So sad :( |

I always thought this was about learning from her parents' mistakes and how they hurt her and caused her to mistrust herself & others. The lyrics just seem to make perfect sense in that context and I have trouble seeing it any other way, but who knows. |

| Gomez – How We Operate Lyrics

I think it's actually "it's in our eyes" instead of "it's not our eyes" in the first part. Anyway, I agree that this is about unconditional love and the ups and downs of having a relationship like that. It's complicated, but beautiful at the same time. |

| Three Days Grace – Pain Lyrics

Wow, I thought this song was clearly about using rough sex as a way to escape the numbness of reality and feel more alive. Especially in this part:
Anger and agony
Are better than misery
Trust me I've got a plan
When the lights go off you will understand
Does that make sense to anyone else? |

It's basically saying that you can't run away from your problems, you've got to face them head on.

| Nerina Pallot – Sophia Lyrics

Just wanted to add something about the name of the song...
When asked who Sophia is in a GMTV interview, Nerina said: "She's a lady I went to university with and I always loved that name. And I loved the old-fashioned pronunciation of it..."
It sounds like she didn't really write it about this person, but just used her name. |

I agree with Nikkie.. so beautiful. I think it's about a girl being surrounded by terrible situations and troubled people, but Ms. Merchant is convincing her to stick with it because life will get so much better. |

In this part...
I'm not loving you, the way I wanted to
See, I had to go, see, I had to move
No more wasting time, you can't wait for life
We're just wasting time, where's the finish line?
...Doesn't it say "We're just racing time / Where's the finish line?" Why would he say "wasting time" twice? |

This is the most amazing song...I think she's explaining love to someone less experienced with relationships.

Do you hurt but still feel alive, like never before?" |

Wow, I love this song. It's basically saying that no one can ever replace her because her intense devotion to this person. Whoever it is tries to compensate for losing her by getting involved with other women, but they won't make it feel any better. How sad :( |

Well, the meaning is pretty simple...she can't stand to be without this person ("It's a need I can't explain") and she really doesn't care what happens if people find out about them. It's such a beautifully heartbreaking song! |

| Mary J. Blige – One (feat. U2) Lyrics
|
To all the people bashing Mary J. Blige for being "just another" R&B star...what are you talking about? Regardless of how she markets herself, she clearly has a wealth of vocal talent and she deserves every bit of fame she gets.
Anyway, this is a great song about the complications of love and unity. I like how Mary J. Blige's voice contrasts with the original feeling of the song. But I guess that's just me (?!) |

| Maria Mena – Just Hold Me Lyrics
|
I know this is really specific, but I've always thought this was about someone being in a relationship with a drug addict. She doesn't understand why he can't stop what he's doing and just be with her, especially when he sees her hurting so much. She knows that it's not a good relationship to be in, because he's not treating her well, but she still loves and cares about him so much that she continues to stay with him.
The lines "But I can't remember life without him / I think I did have good days" just kills me every time. Maria Mena writes the most beautiful songs.

| Low Millions – Eleanor Lyrics

Okay, this is my take on the song:
They're breaking up, even though he doesn't want to. He just wants things to go back to they way they were ("Let me make you dinner one last time").
He respects that she's leaving him ("I won't call you baby") yet has no idea why they're even breaking up. She accused him of doing something wrong, maybe cheated on her or something ("I can't relate to what you say I've done") but he won't question her because it would make her more angry ("But just for you I'll bite my tongue").
Love it! |

| Kings of Leon – Sex on Fire Lyrics

I can't stop repeating this song. It's a problem.
The meaning seems pretty simple. He has no idea whether this will amount to anything or not, but the sexual aspect of their relationship is so amazing that it doesn't even matter and he's not thinking of anything else.
Anyway, best song I've ever heard. |

| Dave Matthews – Gravedigger Lyrics
|
I've always thought this song was about the reality of death and how it touches the lives of everyone. Many people don't give death a lot of thought until something happens that makes it so incredibly real to them, and it can dramatically change people's moods and the way they think.
In the repeated lyrics...
"Gravedigger/ When you dig my grave / Could you make it shallow / So that I can feel the rain"
...I don't think it's fear and sadness towards death, but rather not wanting to let go of life. Feeling the rain is the only way the dead person can stay connected to the world above. Beautiful song. |

| Brandi Carlile – Hiding My Heart Lyrics
| 17 years ago
|
|
I think this song is about someone struggling with serious trust issues. She stays away from relationships because she doesn't want to get hurt. Then, she meets someone so special that she can't help but fall in love. However, she still can't get over her fear of abandonment and constantly thinks the person will leave her no matter what. She knows she shouldn't keep hiding her heart from people, but she can't help it because she doesn't want to face possible rejection. It's really sad, but I love this song. Brandi's voice is enchanting! |
