If I was ever gonna cover a Metallica song in a band,it would be this one.A true masterpiece, and I love how unlike so many other angry musicians who scream out obscenities at the system Metallica construct a progressive opus with powerful lyrics and word everything in a way that a lawyer could've used this for his client almost like a speech.Brilliant.We need more songs like this. |

I think it's about author Dalton Trumbo who wrote the book Johnny Got His Gun,which the movie was sampled for the music video to the song One.I think One is about either the book or the movie itself, and since Shortest Straw follows One on Justice I believe they're singing about the author who was blacklisted and imprisoned for the book which was labeled "unAmerican" by the governemnt for its anti-war sentiment. |

I think it's a continuation of Dyer's Eve somewhat.James' mother was a Christian Scientist(if that's not an oxymoron)and refused treatment for Cancer because it was against her religion.("The healing hand held back by the deepened nail.")In this case the healing hand refers to medicine and the deepened nail would obviously be religion.Killer song, one of the best on the Black album. |

I don't know what it means.Obviously Ddadutta's right about it being a plea for help. It's one of their best songs and also like Still Life one of their most underappreciated.I know Lamia was a figure in Greek mythology. How that relates to him crying out for help I don't exactly know. |

Bank Robber's right. The whole album tells the story of these characters,in this case Nicki, who's watching all these events on tv,and becomes disillusioned with the American system. He meets up with Doctor X who easilly manipulates him and brainwashes him into joining his cause. The story goes on from there and there is much more to it.But this song here in paticular is very relevant even to this day.I also like the referance to Jessica Hahn's Playboy interview where she claims she was molested by Reverand Jim Baker. |

It's really pretty creepy when you think about it.She's singing about Kurt and it sounds like she's jealous of his fame since Hole never achieved the level of fame and icon status that Nirvana did.Plus all the legal battles between her and Dave Grohl, and all the rumors about her murdering him.I don't think she really killed him though.I think he took his own life because he couldn't handle the fame.I just think it's creepy how was released immediately after his death. |

This was the first song I ever heard by Lacuna Coil and I heard it LIVE AND FRONT ROW CENTER STAGE BACK IN 2003!!!!!!!They were the opening act for Anthrax on their "We've Come For You All" tour, and Comalies had just been released. They opened with this song and I liked them so much I bought the cd there immediately after they left stage.I also met them the next year at Ozzfest at the Jaegermeister Booth.I don't dislike Evanescence,I think their first cd was great and The Open Door was decent, however I prefer Lacuna Coil due to their passionate live performances. Not to mention they've actually been around quite a bit longer. To me,when people say they sound like Evanescence when that's backwards is like when people tell me Metallica wrote "Am I Evil?" despite them praising Diamond Head in their interviews.I have to give Lacuna Coil props for releasing a song titled "Heaven's A Lie" because like everyone says, there are narrow minded people who will pre judge without reading the lyrics.Which I see as someone seeing through someone else's bullshit."your heaven's a lie" sounds to me like she's calling someone out on a lie.Whenever people tend to want something from you,be it money,or sex or whatever, some people will say anything to get it.And yes there are people who will promise you the world with no intention of giving it.Sounds like the heaven he's promising her is a lie, hence the song title.Kick ass song. Can't wait to hear their new cd in '09. |

| Judas Priest – Raw Deal Lyrics

Rob Halford has stated in interviews that he's been gay his whole life.I always thought he turned gay after a relationship with woman went sour because of all the misogony in their early songs like Cheater and Victim Of Changes.I wouldn't expect him to admit that if it's true. These lyrics really are homo erotic though. What's so wild is that Rob was thrusting it right down our throats(bad choice of words, lol.) and none of us got it.Damn were we blind.I was only 13 when I first heard this song and had no idea what he was singing about.I thought Fire Island was a drink.I realized what it was about years later, but even that wasn't until he admitted he was gay.It doesn't matter to me,listen to the guitar work in this song.Sin After Sin is one of their best damn albums, and Judas Priest influenced three generations of metal bands so Rob can be gay all he wants, just keep the metal coming and make it heavy. |

It is a badass song from a badass band.I think it's following up on multiple characters like everyone says."Judgement for the Tyrant."Tyrant is the name of a song on Sad Wings Of Destiny about..well,a tyrant. And I agree it sounds like they're also bringing back the Painkiller or a similar character at least. Most of the songs on that album had a reference to Judas Priest's past in some way.Probably because it was their first album in 15 years with Rob Halford. It was their reunion and it was a VERY BIG DEAL!!!!!I just like this song in particular because it rocks hardcore and it mentions Megatron.I wonder if anyone in the band knows about the Transformers considering their age.But it was a cartoon about giant robots that transformed into war machines and fought each other. What could be more heavy metal than that?!?!?!Lol. |

Amen bloodandsoil.I put it on a mix cd for a girl I liked once.Funny thing she was really young, and a black girl and she said she LOVED IT!!!!It's such a fantastic song, how can you not?UFO are a tremendously under rated band.Only true rock fans know about them. Two great facts;guitarist Michael Schencker is also the brother of Rudolph Schencker of The Scorpions(whom he later joined if my facts are correct) and bassist Pete Way is Steve Harris'(Iron Maiden) biggest influence.Hearing those two facts alone were enough to convince me to buy their Greatest Hits on cd and damn am I glad I did. This is my favorite song by them by the way. |

"White man had the smoltz, black man had the blues."Damn that has got to be the best damn line in any song i've ever heard.Bon Scott was a lyrical genius, and i'm glad i'm not the only one on here that gets the Chuck Berry reference when he says "Tchakavski knew the news" from "Roll Over Bethoven."I seen a t-shirt that said "Before Elvis there was nothing" and credits John Lennon as saying it.As much as I love John Lennon if he were alive today I honestly think he would have two remarks to apologize for.The first of course being the "bigger than Jesus" comment.I say that because Elvis was an excellent musician, but when all is said and done all he did was take black music and make it safe for suburban white kids.I even think his "King of Rock and Roll" title is arguable with Chuck Berry influencing the entire genre. You could even go back to the blues legends like Muddy Waters and hear where EVERYTHING started.I don't know how historically accurate it is but go see "Cadillac Records" and you'll see what i'm talking about.Anyway, enough rambling, killer f'n song by a killer f'n band.Makes me miss Bon Scott just writing this. |

Honestly,I think the solo at the end is better than "Free Bird."It may sound alike and that may have been what they were trying to duplicate. But some of the best solos out there are either songs or by bands that are more obscure than their mainstream contemporaries. For example,Saxon, who sound like a poor man's Deep Purple.Listen to the song "Wheels of Steel."That's also an awesome song.Highway Song is just one of those songs that you get in your car and hit the highway and once that solo hits you're doing 90 without even realizing it. |

Honestly yeah the keyboard at the end sounds like Robert Plants screams in the middle of Stairway. However, when I play this song for people who have never heard it and are familiar with classic rock and/or metal I compare the guitar solo at the end and tell people that in my opinion it actually rivals Stairway To Heaven as one the greatest solos, not just in metal but PERIOD!!Definitely Tony Iommi's best work.Am I the only one who noticed how much better Sabbath got as musicians when Dio joined the band?Don't get me wrong,Ozzy is their best frontman, but their playing was very basic three chord riffs. As good as they were I think Dio gave them a much needed kick in the ass and really brought out the best in their style.I hope they make another album together now that Dio rejoined them under the Heaven & Hell moniker. |

This song came out at the perfect time in my life.I was still fairly young,I was 25 and going through the worst break up of my life and my best friend committed suicide just a month prior.I had entered a really dark point in my life and needless to say that I was very bitter. In fact, bitter's not even a strong enough word to describe where I was mentally and emotionally.Anyway,I used to put this song on repeat and turn the radio all the way up and belt out the lyrics just because I had it in my head that all women were whores and bitches.Thankfully,as time went on those wounds healed and that anger and misogony dissipated.I still miss my friend something terrible and even now six years later it hurts, but I rarely think about her anymore. In fact when we were together,I was so in love with her that I couldn't even imagine myself with anyone else. Now,however,I can't even picture us together anymore because i'm too different now from back then.I can still listen to this song and get a good chuckle out of it and now I just enjoy the humor in it.But damn, back then this song turned me into a beast.I'm glad I don't feel that way anymore, and hope I never have to feel that way again. |

| Danzig – White Devil Rise Lyrics

It definitely took a lot of balls for Danzig to respond to Louis Farrakhan's psycho babble about racism. What makes me laugh is that like most radical Muslims Farrakhan hates the Jews. There's racism right there for you.My high school was 60% black and I used to get beat up on a regular basis on the crime of being white. But when I would confront them on their racism I was the one that was racist.I'm not racist,in fact,I have dated black women and have lately become more attracted to them than white women. However,I don't offer apology for the past since I wasn't even born when all the REAL racism in the country was happening.I do admit that white people did some horrible things that are unforgiveable and I don't blame black people for being angry, but that was the past.Instead of carrying that anger and hatred both white and black people need to work together and learn from the past.Otherwise racism will just keep lasting from generation to generation. |

| Five for Fighting – Superman (It's Not Easy) Lyrics

|
I personally think the song is just about Superman. As a comic book geek Superman always was a favorite of mine, and I think this song really captures his struggles.I mean everyone envies Superman because of his powers but no one ever thinks about the great weight that's on his shoulders. If there really were such a man in real life he could never be with the woman he loved because he would always have to leave as soon as a disaster struck, and God knows there's plenty of disasters in this world. As powerful as he is he's still not God,so he can't be everywhere at once. And even simple things like being afraid of abusing his power. The whole world sees Superman as the biggest boy scout, but honestly, would you really want someone that powerful becoming a badass?Or turning corrupt?Stan Lee once said that he doesn't envy writers who have to write for Superman. As cool as those powers are(i'd have fun with flying, superstrength and invincibility) I wouldn't envy never being able to stop and rest or having to keep everything private for fear that an enemy may hurt someone I love dearly just to get back at me.Like I said, the world envies Superman for his ability, but never understands the true responsibility he has.And I think this song captures that perfectly. |

The coolest thing about The Rolling Stones is that everything, and I mean EVERYTHING in Rock 'N' Roll that's been done by any band was already done by them 20 years earlier. They were the first on it all.Personally I agree with it's double meaning.I never knew that Brown Sugar was a term for heroin but I believe it.My dad grew up in the '60's and also told me that Deep Purple was also a type of acid.I believe him too considering the times.Anyway how they got away with this one even back then is beyond me.Nowadays you see interracial couples all over so it's no big deal, but back then HOLY SHIT!!Good luck making it out of somewhere like Alabama.Maybe a white man and black woman wasn't as contrversal as the other way around but I imagine the poor girl got called that lovely word that rhymes with bigger whenever he brought her around friends and family.I have to say thank you to Mick Jagger,he was even the first white boy to have jungle fever,at least in Rock 'N' Roll that I know of and despite the references to rape and slavery I think this was Mick professing that. Now every white boy I know including myself loves dark meat, but back then it was frowned upon.Mick Jagger is the MAN!!!Period. |

Angus Young can deny it all he wants,I know that song's about a serial killer.I love AC/DC to death and that's my favorite song they ever wrote. But i'm not stupid."Make a mess of you" "You don't feel the steel 'till it's hangin' out your back" I know what he's talking about.I really don't blame them for saying it's about sneaking into your girlfriend's room though. After the Night Stalker killing spree I would want to distance myself between him and that song as much as possible.Honestly,I think I know what they were going for though.AC/DC have said in many interviews that one of their biggest influences in the early days was The Rolling Stones.(probably still are)I believe they were trying to write their "Midnight Rambler" when they wrote this song.Compare the lyrics between the two songs and you'll see what I mean. |
