Grizzly Bear – Knife Lyrics | 3 years ago |
@[JamzXIV:34951] My interpretation of this is someone you have a relationship with being careless and possibly disingenuous and not really thinking about, perceiving, or understanding how their treatment is affecting you. And, it's like, er, do you have, like, empathy? Can't you see how harmful this is? Do you care? |
JPEGMafia – Rap Grow Old & Die x No Child Left Behind Lyrics | 3 years ago |
I see this as a comment on the industry. Go in with high potential and chances are you fade out eventually from critics |
D'Angelo – The Line Lyrics | 4 years ago |
To me, this song is about someone making themselves vulnerable romantically. To "stick their neck out" so to speak. To "put it all out there." To "put it on the line." "This is me. Here I am." Do you accept? Do you reject? I think of this song as preparing for that big moment. |
Fleetwood Mac – Gold Dust Woman Lyrics | 4 years ago |
@[jonerez:33303] Or perhaps finally rule over himself! +1 |
Fleetwood Mac – Gold Dust Woman Lyrics | 4 years ago |
Cocaine aside, I see this song as about an ephemeral type of woman. One whom enters one's life to teach them about a certain reality of life. One whom may appear to be your everything at the expense of everything. To lose your prey-selected kingdom only to build it back up Love is a choice |
Taking Back Sunday – What's It Feel Like to Be a Ghost? Lyrics | 4 years ago |
She got "ghosted" for caring too much about his approval instead of living her life. If only she "listened." So what's it feel like to be a ghost? |
Tame Impala – The Less I Know the Better Lyrics | 4 years ago |
From the girl’s perspective I love this song because sometimes you get the feeling they are idolizing you and you can’t reciprocate, and instead of taking advantage of them and though you may like them, there’s just too much going on with you to really be with them right now It’s like when you are disillusioned with the idea of “the one” and you meet someone who isn’t |
Courtney Barnett – Depreston Lyrics | 6 years ago |
Yeah, I think it's about an existential crises caused by societal and social influence. I sense some oppression here. She's not too enthusiastic about seeing the town ("I guess it couldn't hurt..."), and her first observation is a man being arrested. And then she's dealing with pressure from the realtor and her partner. So, she's standing in the house, realizing the passage of time and how this is where someone else's life took place. A life I'm sure was very meaningful to them, but means nothing to her. And the realtor doesn't give a shit--They just want to sell the house, and they'll push any benefit to potential buyers. ("It's cheap because of the whole deceased thing... But! Look at the ceilings! Look at the lovely garden! Don't have two cars? No problem! You can still make use of it! No? Don't like it? Well, you can always tear it all down...") And she is just like, "What is the point of saving all this money to buy a house that you'll spend your life paying off just so you can die and someone else can profit off of it?" Up to this point all of the outside forces were guiding her along, and she's just going with it and it's really starting to get depressing. So, instead of worrying about meaningless details like the location of a door like most people would, she's having profound, albeit depressing thoughts. I think the takeaway here is that if you let other people decide what's best for you, what you need, and what you desire, you're sacrificing what it means to think for yourself. You're buying into a dream and a lie, and the needless suffering could've been avoided if you had just stopped and listened to yourself |

Frank Ocean – Provider Lyrics | 6 years ago |
So what is art? It's a question you could mull over for a lifetime. Minds much, much greater than mine thought about this question for centuries to, in my opinion, no avail. Everyone has their opinions, and some not at all. Try to explain it yourself. If you think you can in like 5 seconds (e.g. It's self-expression!) or even an hour (e.g. Art is actually a creation by humans for humans to give pleasure, an escape, comfort, catharsis, beauty, social improvement, social awareness, emotional resonance, etc. through different modes... music, writing, films, dance, etc.) you'll probably only grasp part of it still. Some might just say everything is art. Or maybe whatever is impactful to you. So, the beauty of this site/sight is that we can see what others think, and choose to agree or disagree, or even choose to see what we think they do. Frank was inspired by the picture of a blonde buckled in the seat of a car. We can choose to understand... or not. To some of us, that picture will always just be some girl buckled in the seat of a car. Or, that album cover will always be a man covering his face, never seeing that orange and yellow make green, and that man and woman are a lot more similar than we're told. Do you enjoy staying in your seatbelt? But even if we miss these signs, it's okay. Even if we miss the mark, like I might with this following interpretation, it's fine. There are no winners here. No ones keeping score. It's all about what you see, how it impacts you, how it may compel you, and having a discussion with those around you and those before you. So... what is Frank talking about? To me, it's about art in a deep and complex way. It's hard to explain because I can only do this clumsily with words, but let me try to show you. However, it's more impactful, I think, if you let Frank tell you. There are multiple interpretations that paint a more unified one. So... One: Art provides Frank inspiration (i.e. "Feelings" that "might change his life"). Music and film move him: Kubrick, MJ ("moonwalkin"), Talking Heads, Aphex Twin, Shoegaze, Jaws, etc.) Cars provide inspiration: night loops, trophy case, race striped body, brake lights... Friends and Family, culture (Astro Van, Prada, Goku, Holyfield, etc.), drugs, etc. all "provide" him a sense of identity, and make him... him! What does a provider do? It gets your needs met. They don't speak for him, they help him speak for him! Two: family, friends, lovers... human experience provide influence and nourishment. You could interpret it like a song to a lover, family member, or even friends (I don't spend time with my friends as much because my experience with you is so fulfilling it changes me for better. It gives me life. And at times it gets my head low [shoegazer] and at others I'm sky-high [moonwalking]. You are worth the ups and downs because I've never experienced what get with you. As I get to know you more, I hope you are blonde like I am blond. Three: It's about Frank as an artist. He's been so busy working through the night (night loops) he hasn't had time for friends and family. He finds solace in music. But still, there is work to do. Is a Grammy-running enough? Is Platinum enough? ("Trophy case still light"). Music will give him the push needed, and taking its influence he will continue to forge his path ("coming up on his own two"). But what kind of path? High-level ("Diamond path"). And it's his own because without him it wouldn't exist. This leads me to the whole interpretation. It's a discussion of art. As artists before him tried on hand-me-downs (i.e. The art form in existence before them) and they fit (understanding), they took this inspiration and pushed the current boundaries of the art form. Is this the role of the artist? Why do this? I can guess: For love of the art form. The form "provides" impact (For Frank life changing feelings and perspectives), and, in turn, Frank can be a "provider" to us fans, just as those forms "provide" for him. But you know who else "provides" to him? Us. Fans. We provide the support also needed to keep Frank in his night loops. And the cycle continues. So keep your ears split when listening to Frank. He'll find the right influences that make him the artist he is. Because he can't be a true artist if he's following the status quo. To me, this song reflects what it means to have art, be an artist, the artist's role, the fans role, art's role of past, current, and future artists, what art can do for us, what we can do for art, etc. The interconnectedness. Is that what this is? So what is art? |
Lil Uzi Vert – The Way Life Goes Lyrics | 6 years ago |
Friends and lovers come and go. It's a fact of life, and you can't let this get you down. The narrarator is using the song (chorus) to remind themselves that pain is temporary and once fully experienced life will feel anew. In this particular case it's deeply painful ("Wish I never met her"). They were almost wed and their styles were compatible. But he's learned that there's more to love than attraction, money, and common interests |
Frank Ocean – Solo Lyrics | 7 years ago |
Some situations that arise in life can paradoxically leave us feeling lonelier, and I think this is one of them. The story, to me, is of two people that at one point were attracted to each other. I don't think it was that serious, but the result lead to a child, leaving the wild-at-heart narrator feeling even more isolated than usual, as we all enter and leave this world alone. So he smokes to kill some of this new reality, just for awhile. People get hurt, and misinterpreted intentions and unmet expectations can lead to rifes, leaving you in a magnified moment of isolation that you never intended |
Kurt Vile – Pretty Pimpin Lyrics | 7 years ago |
This is a song about finding yourself and having the strength to be it in the face of adversity. All of our lives we're told who to be, and until we decide it for ourselves, we'll continue to be somebody else. And then when you find the true you, and the past you fails to recognize it, It won't matter, because you'll know who are really are, and you'll like it |
Wild Nothing – A Dancing Shell Lyrics | 7 years ago |
Are you really an artist if you give up a say in the creation process? If you're a performer making millions, touring the globe, endorsing brands, and influencing fans, is that what it takes to make it big today? Can we really call these people individuals? A shell of a person full of talent and a forfeited brain |
Jane's Addiction – Jane Says Lyrics | 7 years ago |
I agree. It's about kicking addiction, but she never does, and so the chords stay on loop. You can tell she's a lost soul looking for direction, but she gets in her own way |
Kendrick Lamar – Bitch, Don't Kill My Vibe Lyrics | 8 years ago |
@[slidee:10530] Yep. I'd have to say this is kind of a dig at fake rappers. Rappers who aren't using this form of art to express themselves but just flex to cash a pay check. It's disrespectful to artists like Kendrick, who care about the art form. If the fakes knew what pain was, real emotional pain from a shitty upbringing, they wouldn't feel the need to exploit rap for self gain. They'd have something to say and deliver that message to all by giving their all. But like Kendrick says, "Even a small lighter can burn a bridge." He's in the minority in this, but grassroot movements can always gain traction. So, fake bitch ass rappers, quit killin' his mother fuckin' vibe |
The Neighbourhood – Daddy Issues Lyrics | 8 years ago |
A sad but great song no doubt. The meaning is pretty straightforward. This song is about two destructive people in a destructive relationship through no fault of their own. For whatever reason, each have commitment issues because of their upbringing. "Daddy issues" can pertain to anything: lack of love, emotional validation, or attention - or even abandonment. Point being, the father figure was abusive in both of their lives in some way, causing them to be the way they are today: messed up. It's like two soggy pieces of a puzzle that try and mesh together, but they were never meant to fit, it just appears that way, and the sogginess will keep them glued together temporarily, but the connection is destined to fail from a lack of strength on both parts. The singer can empathize with her pain (or can he?), but ultimately they will never be able to engage in a fully healthy relationship. I like the "let it out" part, though. You have to, otherwise you can't grow. |
Frank Ocean – Sweet Life Lyrics | 8 years ago |
I don't think there's a particular meaning to this song. I think he's just painting a particular aspect of the SoCal life. That being said, I do play around with two interpretations. If there were a meaning, I'd say sometimes people are just complacent with where they are in life. I mean what about people in the world who have never really visited anywhere outside of where they live. Some stay because they arent capable of leaving, and some stay simply because they "found their beach." Or it could be a backhanded compliment. Yeah. "Why see the world when you've got the beach?" Why, when you have all this money, easily accessible means of transportation, no ties, what feels like unlimited money, and no responsibilities. Why? When you can live it up and party in SoCal and get super fucked up. You've got "the beach." The life everybody wants. The life people sing and make movies about. And guess what? It ain't like it seems. In reality, you Wake up on your Saturday earlier than expected with a raging headache and a Xanax to calm yourself. |
Title Fight – Symmetry Lyrics | 9 years ago |
@[SeanZiii:412] I think you nailed it. And I also think he feels exposed and powerless, and the pain is never ending. Her match will never light but his will burn infinitely |
Sia – Chandelier Lyrics | 10 years ago |
I think gilbag nailed it. It's like YOLO gone wrong, and you're so far down that path you can't just drastically turn back. Especially when you LIKE it. It's a bitter, endless cycle. |

Justin Bieber – All That Matters Lyrics | 10 years ago |
The Jeftuz remix of this is pretty good |
The Weeknd – Professional Lyrics | 10 years ago |
I think it's about a stripper. Just because of the lines "now you know the value of a dollar" "getting rich to the drums of your favorite song" I think she's dancing to music, but maybe because he's a special, talented singer she fucks him. But honestly, The Weeknd's too talented to be singing for 6 minutes about simple shit like this. |
Curren$y – Stove Top Lyrics | 10 years ago |
Literally about losing a bud because he was dealing the wrong "dope". You gotta get on that Audio Dope, and then all your boys can eat. |
James Taylor – Copperline Lyrics | 10 years ago |
That's really interesting. The first two lines make me think of how the word "gay" has transformed into a derogatory slang word.. which is lame. And it must have been harder for him dealing with "the old folks" who would probably have condemned him for that lifestyle. And it seems like his experience with this other guy only happened because the kid was drunk.. which, in a way, makes it that much more depressing, even though he doesn't see it that way. Good song. |
Bob Dylan – Don't Think Twice, It's All Right Lyrics | 10 years ago |
Just about moving on. That's all you can do |
Drake – Connect Lyrics | 10 years ago |
With the baseball references I think this song is about trying to "connect" with someone, like you connect a baseball to a bat. And the two in this song always try to "hit a homerun" but fail. But it's all good because he's going to keep swinging till he hits something good. |
Kanye West – New Slaves Lyrics | 10 years ago |
Shit's nuts. He brings up a lot of shit but in the beginning he's bringing up social issues for blacks and dealing w. getting signed. "All you niggas want the same things", so companies just throw them some chains, a nice car, and a contract, and tell them to shut the fuck up and "do what we say". At this point Kanye has his own company so he doesn't have to deal with that shit as much, but we're still slaves to corporations, including himself. Then he distinguishes himself from every other rapper saying if you turn it up he'll just tear it down - watch the throne. |
Lord Huron – She Lit A Fire Lyrics | 11 years ago |
I think you nailed it |
Panic! at the Disco – It's Time To Dance Lyrics | 11 years ago |
This is so true man. "Boys hiding in Estrogen", no doubt it's about "Invisible Monsters" |
Drake – Light Up Lyrics | 11 years ago |
It has a lot of meanings. After sex you "pillow talk" i.e cuddle and talk about shit. He's making the connection that she'll pillow talk with some other guy after you, because you're just another guy to her. This probably happens to stars a lot because it's hard to tell who true friends are when you have boatloads of $$$. Most woman would want to fuck Drake for the simple fact that they fucked Drake. |
Usher – What Happened To U Lyrics | 11 years ago |

Disclosure – Latch Lyrics | 11 years ago |
Not the lyrics I posted. Twice this shit fucked up, these are the real ones: You lift my heart up When the rest of me is down You, you enchant me, even when you're not around If there are boundaries, I will try to knock them down I’m latching on babe Now I know what I have found I feel we're close enough I wanna lock in your love I think we’re close enough Could I lock in your love, baby? Now I got you in my space I won’t let go of you Got you shackled in my embrace I’m latching on to you I’m so encaptured, got me wrapped up in your touch Feel so enamored, hold me tight within your clutch How do you do it? You got me losing every breathe What did you give me, to make my heart beat out my chest? I feel we're close enough I wanna lock in your love I think we’re close enough Could I lock in your love, baby? Now I got you in my space I won’t let go of you Got you shackled in my embrace I’m latching on to you Latching on you (I'm latching onto you) I won’t let go of you (I won't let go) Latching on you (I don't want to let go) I won’t let go, I won't let go, I won't let go |

Kanye West – Runaway Lyrics | 11 years ago |
He knows there's no point in chasing him because he wants the best of both world's but know's he can't have it. Best thing you can do is just let him go |
Beach House – Master of None Lyrics | 12 years ago |
"You will not catch your own bone" is what I hear, meaning this person needs the other for motivation. I see this as two people involved, probably some type of relationship where one person keeps letting the other person down, but they both need each other for some reason. The singer knows this person holds the potential to be the ultimate partner, and the latter knows it too, but they would rather "play with the devil" because it's an easier lifestyle. |
