Latch Lyrics
You lift my heart up when the rest of me is down
You, you enchant me even when you're not around
If there are boundaries, I will try to knock them down
I’m latching on, babe, now I know what I have found
I feel we're close enough
Could I lock in your love?
I feel we’re close enough
Could I lock in your love?
Now I’ve got you in my space
I won’t let go of you
Got you shackled in my embrace
I’m latching on to you
I’m so en-captured, got me wrapped up in your touch
Feel so enamored, hold me tight within your clutch
How do you do it, got me losing every breath
What did you give me to make my heart beat out my chest?
I feel we're close enough
Could I lock in your love?
I feel we’re close enough
Could I lock in your love?
Now I’ve got you in my space
I won’t let go of you
Got you shackled in my embrace
I’m latching on to you
Now I’ve got you in my space
I won’t let go of you
Got you shackled in my embrace
I’m latching on to you
I’m latching on to you
You, you enchant me even when you're not around
If there are boundaries, I will try to knock them down
I’m latching on, babe, now I know what I have found
Could I lock in your love?
I feel we’re close enough
Could I lock in your love?
I won’t let go of you
Got you shackled in my embrace
I’m latching on to you
Feel so enamored, hold me tight within your clutch
How do you do it, got me losing every breath
What did you give me to make my heart beat out my chest?
Could I lock in your love?
I feel we’re close enough
Could I lock in your love?
I won’t let go of you
Got you shackled in my embrace
I’m latching on to you
I won’t let go of you
Got you shackled in my embrace
I’m latching on to you

This song has got kind of an eerie feel to it - gotta give it to Disclosure and Sam Smith for creating such an excellent and well-crafted tune. I think that what's great about this song is they took the traditional love song idea of, "let's make this a serious, exclusive thing", but they've given it this kind of weird, paranoid, obsessive undercurrent. "Latch" as a word can mean the way it's used in this song, to be about latching up or tying the knot so to speak, but it usually has that much creepier, parasite connotation of "latching on to" someone or something.
So, in short, it's a love song that's about an unstable person wanting to lock down their partner so that they won't have to be alone anymore, and really hyper-fixating on that aspect of the relationship.
Not the lyrics I posted. Twice this shit fucked up, these are the real ones:
You lift my heart up When the rest of me is down You, you enchant me, even when you're not around If there are boundaries, I will try to knock them down I’m latching on babe Now I know what I have found
I feel we're close enough I wanna lock in your love I think we’re close enough Could I lock in your love, baby?
Now I got you in my space I won’t let go of you Got you shackled in my embrace I’m latching on to you
I’m so encaptured, got me wrapped up in your touch Feel so enamored, hold me tight within your clutch How do you do it? You got me losing every breathe What did you give me, to make my heart beat out my chest?
I feel we're close enough I wanna lock in your love I think we’re close enough Could I lock in your love, baby?
Now I got you in my space I won’t let go of you Got you shackled in my embrace I’m latching on to you
Latching on you (I'm latching onto you) I won’t let go of you (I won't let go) Latching on you (I don't want to let go) I won’t let go, I won't let go, I won't let go
I think this song is amazing and I really love it.
I feel it is about an obsessed person trying to get with someone who doesnt know they may even like them.
The song tells a story about how much excitement and love the person has for the other one. The person vows that "if there are boundaries, I will try to knock them down".
The song then gets kind of creepy. I feel like there is a tipping point in the song where the person switches from being a seductor and an admirer to a possessive, potentially mentally disturbed lover.
The A/B personalities in the vocals between the verse and the chorus illustrate that shift in behavior.
The lines "what did you give me, to make my heart beat out of my chest"(were they slipped a drug?) , use of the word "shackled" and of course the title "latch" all add a bit of creepiness as a really great contrast to what sounds like a nice love song.
Great tune, I hope this comment helps enjoy the song more or see differently/with more depth!
You left my heart out When the rest of me is down You, you enchanted me, even when you are not around If there are boundaries, I will try to knock them down I’m latching on they Now I know what I have found
I feel you close enough I wanna latch in your love I think we’re close enough Cuz I latch when you’re mine
Now I got you in my space I won’t let go with you What you shackle in my embrace I’m latching on you
Now I got you in my space I won’t let go with you What you shackle in my embrace I’m latching on you
I’m so encaptured, got wrapped up in your touch Feel so enamored, hold me tighter then your clutch How do you do it, you got me losing every breath Why did you give me to make my heart bleed out my chest
I feel you close enough I wanna latch in your love I think we’re close enough Could I latch in your love, baby I feel we’re close enough I wanna latch in your love I think we’re close enough Could I latch in your love, baby
Now I got you in my space I won’t let go with you What you shackled in my embrace I’m latching on you
Now I got you in my space I won’t let go with you What you shackled in my embrace I’m latching on you Latching on you I won’t let go with you (I won’t let go) Latching on you I won’t let go with you
If you ask me, the the lyrics to this song are coming from an obsessed boyfriend or girlfriend, who looks normal at first glance. From the beginning of the song to the last line of the pre-chorus, it sounds like just a normal love song about a guy (or girl) who's enamored with another. But when the chorus kicks in, the tune of the song flows towards Disclosure's usual style: glitchy, dubstep-y, and the singing raises its pitch. Then he starts using words like "got you shackled" and "latched."
I don't agree. The song is saying they're not letting go of a true love they've found with someone. Like it's so magical to them, that they don't ever want to let it go. Quite the oppersit of what youre saying.

xxDanielleMxx, I agree with you, I think it's a cute love song. I could see how someone would interpret it as creepy though.

The narrator might be a bit clingy, but he/she is totally enamored with their new love. I think of this more of a cute love song rather than a creepy clinger. Maybe that's what I want it to be though.
