A Storm of Light – Iron Heart Lyrics 15 years ago
A romantic description of a ship sinking, being consumed and absorbed into the sea.

Dio – Holy Diver Lyrics 15 years ago
It's about radical traditionalism. The idea of "riding the tiger" is right out of Julius Evola, and

Between the velvet lies
There's a truth that's hard as steel
The vision never dies
Life's a never ending wheel

sounds exactly like something a radical traditionalist would say.

Swans – The Final Sacrifice Lyrics 15 years ago
Or it's really about Jesus bending you over a table, metaphorically at least.

Swans – This Is Mine Lyrics 15 years ago
We become attached to things to the extent that the things we own begin to own us. Our world becomes centred around the things we own, such that we worship them and hate the products we don't happen to favour. We become so focused on the things we own that we fail to see the hole we're digging ourselves into. See Playstation fans bashing Xbox fans, etc.

Von Thronstahl – We Walked In Line Lyrics 15 years ago
Cover of a Joy Division song, with the lyrics changed to place the speaker within the fascist movement, rather than observing it.

Meshuggah – obZen Lyrics 15 years ago
This track is a summary of the whole idea of the album. The other tracks are each examining aspects of this.

Swans – You're Not Real, Girl Lyrics 15 years ago
Alternatively, the coming inside her could be about the teachings of the cult coming inside her and being believed by her. She starts to deny her body and herself, which leads to her denying the belief that caused her to deny it in the first place. Either way, there's a theme of hypocrisy and self-contradiction.

Swans – You're Not Real, Girl Lyrics 15 years ago
A girl in a cult. She's subservient to the leaders of the cult, who use her for sex, while telling her that material things don't matter. She knows she has to do what they tell her, but she doesn't like it, so she withdraws and becomes quiet. She applies the anti-materialist rhetoric, telling herself it's not really happening.

Meshuggah – Perpetual Black Second Lyrics 15 years ago
The speaker has the tendency to lash out in anger, and in one of these episodes, he killed someone out of rage and revenge. He now regrets this, and is convinced that he's a horrible person who deserves to be punished.

Swans – Breathing Water Lyrics 15 years ago
Seems to be about how it's impossible for two people to really, truly know eachother, despite being very intimate.

Swans – Helpless Child Lyrics 15 years ago
When I read this, I thought of a son who is too attached to his mother. He is metaphorically stuck in her womb, "down in your damp cave".

Meshuggah – Suffer In Truth Lyrics 15 years ago
It definitely does say "contaminated". There are five syllables, and "terminated" only has four.

A Silver Mt. Zion – Take These Hands and Throw Them in the River Lyrics 16 years ago
Failure and redemption. They act irresponsibly and wreck themselves, and then struggle home to a mother-figure who hugs them and washes them clean of their ill deeds, in the proverbial river.

Death – Lack Of Comprehension Lyrics 16 years ago
It's about any transferral of blame away from the self and onto someone whose fault it wasn't really.

The Residents – Constantinople Lyrics 16 years ago
Reminds of Sailing To Byzantium by Yeats.

A Silver Mt. Zion – Movie (Never Made) Lyrics 16 years ago
Note in Take These Hands...etc, "I got drunk, you got high". And in The Dead Flag Blues by GY!BE, "we're all on so many drugs" (though that could be a reference to the health industry).

Nick Drake – Clothes Of Sand Lyrics 16 years ago
I'd say it's lamenting a female loved one's conversion to Islam.

submissions
Wumpscut – Black Death Lyrics 17 years ago
The celebration of masochism and self-destruction. Longing for death and then achieving it, in a very gruesome manner.

submissions
Pleasure Forever – Goodnight Lyrics 17 years ago
'Tis about getting stoned.

Strapping Young Lad – All Hail The New Flesh Lyrics 17 years ago
You could abbreviate this song to "I'm fucking awesome" without changing its meaning.

Ulver – Christmas Lyrics 17 years ago
Advocating agnosticism.

Godspeed You! Black Emperor – BBF3 Lyrics 17 years ago
Seems to me that Blaise Bailey Finnegan is talking shit. It's pretty evident he's making stuff up as he goes along, from his tone of voice and inconsistencies. Like he says "I left it at that" twice in the same story, and when he's talking about his guns it's pretty obvious too. There's also the fact that he recites an Iron Maiden song and claims it's his poem, without amending it to be less song-like and more poem-like.

Godspeed You! Black Emperor – Rockets Fall on Rocket Falls Lyrics 17 years ago
Nuclear war. The terrible dread as the bombs fall, the seconds drawn out to seem like hours, then the explosions, and the desolation afterwards. You don't need words to tell stories, y'know.

Godspeed You! Black Emperor – Storm Lyrics 17 years ago
Big tracks, usually classical pieces, are broken up into movements, which can count as pieces of music by themselves but which are part of a greater whole.

A Silver Mt. Zion – Movie (Never Made) Lyrics 17 years ago
It's about getting drunk and high with friends, dancing and drinking too much and ending up vomiting. Talking about how great it'd be to have an armed revolution. But then they realise they're not really going to have an armed revolution, that's just a pipe dream, they realise they're getting old and sick and they've achieved nothing in their lives. But in the end they're fine with that, because it's nobler to never get paid than to bank on shit and dismay.
