Electric President – All The Bones Lyrics 14 years ago
OMG, this song is totally about the Iraq war and American politics and drugs and a girl he used to date, etc. etc.

J/k, I honestly have no idea what this song could be about (other than "dreams and nightmares" like all of Sleep Well covers), but I love it.

Electric President – It's an Ugly Life Lyrics 15 years ago
Agree with everyone that that quote is phenomenal.

The song, to me, is about dwelling on what pains you in life. You try to figure out who you are inside and why different things cause you pain, even looking for others to blame. Eventually, you give up figuring things out and just want to be able to sleep at night. But the conclusion is that that's life, and there will always be problems to face.

I'm also from Pittsburgh, but I have to disagree--my favorite part is the whale attack. Epic song. The rhyming scheme AAB AAB is ideal for getting this song stuck in your head.

I agree with Vertigo. That's probably the best interpretation you can arrive at given two lines and a background phrase sung. Awesome, awesome song.

Sin Fang Bous – Catch The Light Lyrics 15 years ago
Melodically, this is an incredible song. Lyrically, I have no idea what he's talking about. If I had to guess, the song's protagonist got into a fight with his girl and got kicked out of the house. The "fire" refers to his anger at the situation (first two lines after the first chorus kind of hints to this).

The Bravery – The Ocean Lyrics 15 years ago
What makes this kickass song even better is that you can project all over it. The first verse is specific to a person (significant other?), while the second is a more general statement about all of the people we meet in life. I can see how some could interpret the song being about death, but I don't personally subscribe to this. I believe "the ocean" to just mean life in general, which could be described as a sea of people coexisting, bumping into each other, sharing experiences, and usually parting ways. A very beautiful "what if" song. Also, love the closing line.

UNKLE – The Answer Lyrics 15 years ago
How could nobody comment on this yet? This is a great song. As to the meaning...I'm going to go ahead and be vague because I have no idea, but I'd say that it's about some moment of obtaining an "answer" (obviously, i guess) and life is good.

And the lyrics are:

With you tea
A luck taste as the day breaks (definitely says "taste")
The blind are leading the blind

The Shins – Girl Sailor Lyrics 16 years ago
First of all, thank science for Pandora, because otherwise I would never have known the awesomeness that is The Shins. Consider me highly unqualified as I am just getting into them, but I've known this song for a while now and recently I've really had the opportunity to let it grow on me.

From that perspective (not having listened to the rest of the album yet), it seems that these two have broken up some time ago; he feels beneath her, having let her pretty much take charge in the relationship due to her being outspoken, driven, and a pretty great catch. While she was the stronger one of the two, she still is a caring person and feels at least a little something after they meet again a while after the breakup. He notices that she's still the exact same, and realizes off the bat that she isn't drawn to him as much anymore and the two just aren't really meant to be, so he decides to amicably part ways, wishing her luck on her future relationships. He accepts that she's just a restless free spirit, but also a pretty great person, and it's best just to end the relationship tension once and for all. Probably the most upbeat I-Just-Saw-My-Ex-Again song ever made.

Doves – 10:03 Lyrics 16 years ago
Fucking awesome song. Ripe for some movie (that unfortunately would probably suck) where the guy is running back to his chick because he fucked up and he realized he was wrong. I know if that happens to me, I want this blasting in the background. Then when the instrumental part kicks in, that'll be me dodging traffic and stiffarming homeless guys and girl scount cookie pushers while running to my scorned lover because I made fun of how she queefed the night before. Aaaaah, such is love.

Doves – M62 Song Lyrics 16 years ago
Whether they ripped off "Moonchild" or not, what a great song. The haunting lead in to the acoustic guitar is spot on (as well as when the same sound is used again throughout the song). Great relaxing road trip song. Great lyrics.

Doves – There Goes The Fear Lyrics 16 years ago
This is very much a song about getting used to being older and/or dying and realizing your youth is gone. The video un-subtly paints this theme, as well.

I just can't tell if "there goes the fear" means he's getting rid of it, or like "here it comes again." ???

Eminem – Dr. West (Skit) Lyrics 16 years ago
I kind of like this intro. Kind of a dual meaning, mainly about how addiction is a mean motherfucker, but also I picked up some hints at how celebrities aren't really treated the same with regard to drug addiction, and it's sort of just tolerated and exacerbated.

Eminem – 3 A.M. Lyrics 16 years ago
Also more of a fan of earlier/underground Em, trying to get into his new stuff. This song grew on me, but it took some time. Hated it the first time I listened to it (the voice, made worse by the chorus) but it's not bad. I like the theme, good openening song, but still doesn't hold a candle to "Kill You" and it's awesomeness.

The Smashing Pumpkins – The Beginning Is the End Is the Beginning Lyrics 16 years ago
LOVED this song ever since I was 14 and made the mistake of seeing Batman and Robin and buying the soundtrack (for the other version of this song and the Bone Thugs song). This easily eclipsed the rest of the CD and actually justified buying it w/ the other garbage on the album. Glad it's finally getting some recognition. Definitely got a music boner when I first saw the teaser and I heard the initial DUN DUN dun dun dun...da..da..DA da.. (horrible way to phonetically describe the opening) but yeah, kudos to Zach Snyder for throwing this gem in there. My girlfriend even likes it, and she's drawn to 80s music and country, so they must have done something right with this one.

The Bravery – Bad Sun Lyrics 16 years ago
The lyrics posted for this song are definitely bunk.

Easy meaning: two people drawn together because of either a tough youth, or they're both just crazy (in the good way, like idiosyncratic, or maybe just a couple of cynical misanthropes, whatever). They "savor" each other's pain because they grew up w/ bullshit and got used to it, even to the point of getting a strange enjoyment (fulfillment is a better word). They don't belong anywhere because they're a couple of freaks (again, I mean that in the good way). So, yeah, pretty much what kvn8907 said.

The Killers – Everything Will Be Alright Lyrics 16 years ago
2nd favorite Killers song, easily the easiest to project ur heartache all over. Reminds me of an evil succubus that ripped my heart out, cheated on me, etc (first girl i actually loved, too), as I heard this shortly after we split, but it's still a good all-around "shit kinda sucks right now, but i'll get over it" song.

Whoever said it's more cathartic and empty than anything else I would have to agree with. It's like the depressing flipside of what Fade Together by Franz Ferdinand is about. In this song he keeps repeating it hoping that if he says it enough, eventually it will be true.

What hooked me at first was just the music behind the lyrics, incredibly awesome. Gives an otherworldly feel to what is essentially a breakup song.

Albert Hammond Jr. – In Transit Lyrics 16 years ago
Oh yeah, phenomenal sunny day driving song.

The meaning? Sounds to me like he's saying, "I fuck up. Oh well, (and then perhaps in a Cartman voice) I do what I want!"

Or maybe he's really happy about something that pulled him out of some funk he was in, and when he "went to far," that's like him jumping up and down on the couch with happiness like Tom Cruise. Except REAL happiness. And his special lady friend gave him one of those, "settle down, dear" looks.

Franz Ferdinand – Fade Together Lyrics 16 years ago
Coming into this site, I just passively thought this was a love song about "fading together," or kind of getting away from it all with each other. Now I'm not so sure.

He's saying that he badly wants the love to fade. Instead of "let's fade together" meaning getting away with each other, I think it means let's mutually get over each other. How he says "oh god you are so far away" seems to imply that he's realizing, "man, you are gone now, huh." I completely agree with regb about the Berlin wall signifying getting over her. Also, I whole-heartedly agree that "Berlin, I love you" is a pretty fuckin melodic line. But yeah, whether looking at the passport photograph implies something deeper or not (could just be a really ugly picture of her), he says "I'M starting to fade," as in, "whew, glad I'm over that."

Great song.

I Love You But I've Chosen Darkness – When You Go Out Lyrics 16 years ago
Between this and ghost, these guys know how to lay down some kickass music to accompany their lyrics.

NO idea as to the meaning. Obviously the zenzella is onto something, but can't really pick up on the disposition shared by the person singing the lyrics. Do they want the relationship? WE'LL NEVER KNOW...

I Love You But I've Chosen Darkness – The Ghost Lyrics 16 years ago
The melody couldn't fit the song more perfectly. Very haunting, to tie in with the title. I had initially thought it was someone recalling a horrible event in their life, losing someone, and the memory of the deceased haunting them like a ghost. But the lyric "and I will remain" hints it is the ghost of the person who died recounting the event. Also, saying "the rescuers have withdrawn" implies that they are leaving this ghost behind. Great fucking song.

Whitey – A Walk in the Dark Lyrics 16 years ago
Could be dreadfully mistaken, but even though other lyric sites post this line as being so, I'm pretty sure that the part "and all the moons on earth" is really "and often as I pass." Makes way more sense.

That being said, I know this isn't exactly a deep song, but it's pretty cool nonetheless, so I feel obligated to post something.

It's about a stalker? Sounds about right.

Muse – Hoodoo Lyrics 16 years ago
First, I'm amazed that people can get a political meaning from this song. I know art is left up to broad interpretation, but this song strikes me as an obvious relationship song. But still, kudos to those who went outside of the box.

That being said, I'm also going to project all over this song, but I have what I think is a pretty good lock on the meaning behind Hoodoo. First, what is a hoodoo? The primary definition is a rock formation, specifically a large boulder held up by a much thinner elongated rock structure (like a tootsie pop on a skinny paper stick). Matt you clever bastard. It's about a heavy relationship that's doomed to fall apart, but the two of them are holding it up anyway for whatever reason, and it's causing much stress. So pretty much an amalgamation of what a lot of people have already mentioned.

I agree with deadtex that the intro is like the beginning of a new love with the guitar solo. The first verse deals with the two meeting and, going against their better judgement, decide to go ahead and pretend that they are completely happy in the relationship, "regressing into a dream" and "building a new reality." I'm guessing the girl this is directed to isn't quite as on board as him to keep up this facade, so he's trying to assure her that she will be protected from trouble and pain, and he gets frustrated that she just can't let their problems go, even though he's supportive and saying "choose the other path" anyway (do what makes you happy, even if that means leaving me).

Then he's reflecting on why everything fell apart, but is still remaining supportive, even offering to take the blow, or what I assume would be to take the emotional toll of the fallen relationship. Then of course, the last verse pertains to his realization that he should have changed his ways to help keep them together.

But I could be completely wrong and this is about the government. As previously stated, it's Muse, so who knows.

Doves – Darker Lyrics 17 years ago
Wow, it's blasphemous that so little has been said about this song--this song wasn't the first Doves song I heard, but it was the song to get me into them. Anyway, definitely a song about drugs, I'm also guessing cocaine. No doubt about it.

Muse – Blackout Lyrics 17 years ago
Ugh, I know that it's fun to project yourself onto a song's meaning, and that's good and all, we all do it constantly, but no, this song is not about relationships in the least bit. Blackout=death. This song is about life and our complete ignorance of what happens after it's over. Live for the moment and realize that all things come to an end. Oh, and awesome live performance indeed.

Muse – Take a Bow Lyrics 17 years ago
Fuckin right this song is epic. How can anyone listen to that musical buildup and not get an instant adrenaline rush. Anyway, this song is about all the aforementioned dickheads, Bush, Hitler--anyone who has been given the reigns to a country. He's saying you gamble with the lives of your countrymen needlessly and fuck things up endlessly so goddamn it, you're gonna pay! You fucks. Oh, and great band, etc etc.

Just got into Muse also (Pink Floyd is indeed a great segway into this type of music) and I gotta say great song. I'm not going to waste time reading five pages of comments, but I'll just say the message of the song is this: the human race is fucking itself over and no God is going to help us out, so get off your ass and set a better course for us all.

Muse – Apocalypse Please Lyrics 17 years ago
First, the guy is definitely an atheist so anyone claiming this is an obviously pro-God (or pro-Christian God is you want to get specific) is missing the point. The song is about how the world's proper fucked and we need to change things. He's saying that if there is a God watching over us it's time for him to get off his fat ass and help us out. Only we can change the course and if we don't, then things will not end well. The End. Oh, and kickass song, great band, etc etc.

Paul Michel – Lonely Dirges Lyrics 17 years ago
I can't believe nobody has commented on this guy yet--then again, I had to buy this song which says how unknown he is. This song is excellent. Anyway, I'm not sure what this song is about (I actually had to look up "dirge"). I'm guessing that he regrets how he has acted in the past and vows to change before it's too late. A dirge is a funeral lamentation, so he's probably putting to death his old style of being an asshole or what not.
