Studio Killers – Ode to the Bouncer Lyrics 12 years ago
I think it's meant to be:

"So you can play karate
You think you're literati."

Does anyone know who the singer is on this? I think it's Teemu Brunila; I don't think it's a female singer.

Sorry, I meant for this to be a comment rather than a reply, hopefully it doesn't sound like I'm attacking you =s

Friendly Fires – Skeleton Boy Lyrics 14 years ago
I've just listened to it about five times and I'm almost positive it's "young love is old." With some accents, a "d" can sound like a "t" at the end of a sentence, and this line makes a lot more sense for me. He's saying that he used to love this person but now they've both grown up a bit, and have grown out of their love for each other.

Happy Mondays – Step On Lyrics 15 years ago
The song lyrics immediately put me in mind of the native North Americans, but I think it could be about any disenfranchised native people who've been taken over by some conquering empire. I think he says "rainmaker" at the beginning because he's talking to a tribesman, and then says "that man" is going to take away your promised land, and then later says he has "golden plans," which probably refer to making money by exploiting the people who live there. The reason it made me think of the North American Indians is because of the lines about "he'll never stop until he's taken the lot" and "he's got a double tongue, you'd never think he would lie" because they were given treaties and then lied to, and the treaties were broken.

Franz Ferdinand – Lynsey Wells Lyrics 16 years ago
Amazing, beautiful song. It's pretty simple, but I think the sentiment is the best part. And the best thing is that it could be about any girl who listens to it, really. I skip down the road in the wind to this song. :) Big love to Franz Ferdinand.
The only thing I hate is that I don't know which album it's off of. Maybe they'll put it on an upcoming one? I know they have a few new songs floating around.

Did the live show come before the HBO show? So they just made up a story to fit the songs?

Maybe Bowie's just a crazy old bastard who changes lyrics and uses his nipples as antennae.

Plus that sort of makes more sense than "turn and face the strain."

Pretty sure Topchris is right, I think it's "turn and face the strange ch-ch-changes." Only the "g" is muffled by the "ch-ch" coming right after.

There's one version where Jemaine says "come on sucker, lick my battery."

I always thought it was talking to a groupie. 'Cos she's a "collector

Also, after "or do they smoke Astroturf," they sometimes say "it's such an artificial high."

Flight of the Conchords – Bowie Lyrics 16 years ago
I love this song so much. Their imitations are spot-on.
But some of the lyrics here are a bit wonky ... the version I saw had "Isn't it quite cold in the depths of space, Bowie" and "does the space cold make your nipples go all pointy" instead of what's here. But I know there are a few different versions, as it's performed live.

Isn't it "If they wanna get me making noise?" I'm not sure about it, but that's what I thought ...

Does anyone have a clue what all the lyrics are about? "The bodies on the screen stopped bleeding??"

Mika – Stuck In The Middle Lyrics 16 years ago
So, I'm pretty sure this is a sort of song version of a fight he's had with his mother ... "biting each other" with their words, etc. I'm guessing it's because his parents disapproved of his career choice? Or maybe he is gay and that's what they're unhappy about? I have a sneaking suspicion that he's straight, though.

The Clash – Know Your Rights Lyrics 16 years ago
I'm pretty sure the "investigation, humiliation" refers to the government researching and testing people to see if they were poor enough to be put on welfare. Hence, if you were lucky, you would be "rehabilitated" back into society. (?)
P.S. Fantastic politically-charged song.

The Clash – (White Man) In Hammersmith Palais Lyrics 16 years ago
Don't know if the Sex Pistols thing was resolved from earlier, but ... Malcolm McLaren saw Johnny Rotton come into his shop with a customised shirt on. The shirt originally said "Pink Floyd," and Johnny had written "I hate" above it. Malcolm was interested in him and hired him to be in a band, the Pistols. Just in case there were doubts about them being connected ...

David Bowie – Kooks Lyrics 17 years ago
I love this song. The line "'cause we believe in you" sometimes makes me cry. And I love the bit about David buying things for his son, just mundane things, even though he's a rock star, because having a son has humbled him. I've heard he was a fantastic dad. But ... "dry" doesn't rhyme with "dry." Ah well, artistic licence.

David Bowie – Dancing in the Street Lyrics 17 years ago
Of course we're interested in whether they slept together or not. Musicians' lives do have an influence on their music, believe it or not. It may have influenced the collaboration.
I think the song's all right, but there are a lot of songs by both of them that I like better. But it's good if it does get people dancing.

David Bowie – Boys Keep Swinging Lyrics 17 years ago
It's a great song, but it always makes me feel slightly depressed -- it's all true and makes me feel hard-done-by to be a girl. I like the "other boys can check you out" bit -- gay reference?

David Bowie – Queen Bitch Lyrics 17 years ago
At first when he said "I could do better than that," I thought he was talking about being a better woman than she was, but now I think he meant he could get someone better to be with than her. I think it's about him wanting to be with her and being resentful that she sleeps around.
