Skeleton Boy Lyrics

I close my eyes on the dancefloor
I forget about you
I lose myself in flashing colors
Ive gotta see it through

you're too much,
i take it that we're over
should we even care at all?
too much, too much
lets shake hands and say goodbye

Your love is out
believing despite the loss
Give me your hand
lets face this night and see it through

Right by my feet, lay broken glasses
you skeleton boy
swept from the walls, drips on my shoulder
I gotta see it through

Personally I think it's about a boy, on a night out at a club/gig/rave, lamenting a lost love with a girl who he's there with. Perhaps they have just broken up that night. In their final exchanges he at first allows his emotions to show:

"you're too much,"

Then his disappointment:

"i take it that we're over"

Before quickly trying to act aloof:

"should we even care at all?"

Before it all becomes too much:

"too much, too much"

And he makes one more effort to be cordial:

"lets shake hands and say goodbye"

The rest of the song, about facing the night and seeing it through, could be about them trying to at least enjoy the rest of the night because it's all they have left together, even if it is just as 'friends'. I think he is the 'Skeleton Boy'; he's a relic of his former self, emotionally stripped to the bare bones by the end of his relationship. But none the less, he vows to carry on and 'see it through'.

My two cents :-)

Oh, and I think it's "believing despite it all," rather than "believing despite the loss" as you have it.

I'm not too sure on this, I think it's "your love is out" though still, not too sure.

I thought it sounded like "you skeleton boy, sweat from the walls drips on my shoulder" but I could be wrong

i think these are all correct apart from this bit i've corrected:

you're too much, i take it that we're over should we even care at all? too much, too much lets shake hands and say goodbye

i'm not really sure what the song is about, but i think it's brilliant, one of my favourite friendly fires songs.

yeahh that sounds correct, you can hear it better in the new version

I love this song so much but i think where he says 'too much too much' it's actually 'you're, too much, too much' it sounds like it - but it might be a moan or something like that

I love this song so much. I think it's about wanting to let a destructive relationship go, but not being able to, because you love the person. The whole song seems like he's going back and forth. I think ultimately they try to make it work, but maybe I'm just an optimist :).

Give me your hand, lets face this night and see it through.

I agree with sticky too, I've seen other lyrics that say "despite the loss" but it definitely sounds like "despite it all."
