I wish I could delete my old posts, when I read them these days they don't even seem like me. It's kind of nice being able to see how my perception of music has evolved though. The people who comment this sight complaining about 'shit' or 'emo' music or whatever are just looking for someone to feel superior too, hell I know I have in the past (although I still retain that some of it's justified >.>). Music defines teenagers peer circles wayyy too much imo, I mean it's cool having friends that listen to the same kind of music as you, but that shouldn't be one of the first things that define whether someone's your friend or not. I'm not trying to be wise or anything (well kind of), it's just I look back into my high school years and kind of wish I could have done it a little differently, been a bit less discriminatory to certain groups of music, and probably have made more friends in the process. In saying that I swear my friends are the fucking coolest people on the planet (as everyone does, except mine actually are) and I wouldn't give them up for another thousand million friends, I don't know really where I'm going with this it's just a train of thought really. Just that there's no point in discriminating as in the end, karma is really gonna bite your ass. I've already left a meaning for this song a page or 2 back so I'm allowed to rant with everyone else >.>. Oh, and seriously, listen to some Meatloaf. He is the king of beautiful music (maybe not the best music, but definitely beautiful music). |

OH FFS I just spent like 30mins explainin this song and I get an 'internet explorer cannot display this page' error and lose it all =.=. I LOVE this song Ok pretty much (very simplified now): The Holy Diver is an ordinary man who's ambition of life is to prove his love to his God. The Ocean is life, the first verse is saying he has spent so long on this sinfilled world that he's beginning to change. The Tiger is an unbeliever, the Diver believes they are good people (clean) under their mask of humanity (stripes, sin). 'Gotta get away-gotta get away' a warning from his God. Diamonds are his salvation, whether it be physical or spiritual is irrelevant. The metaphor of cat's eyes is just showing how the salvation stands out like a shiny thing in the ocean. 'Something is coming for you' warning from his god again, sin is coming for him The next verse is his rest, his 'mission' is finished now he waits to speak or feel his God. 'We pray it's alright' the Holy Diver and God praying he has been succesful 'Gotta get away- gotta get away' he realises he has been 'tainted'. Not sure whether God will accept him he tries to run. The next verse is saying that no matter what we tell ourselves, we are only human, we will sin, we will pray for forgiveness then we'll go off and sin again and be right back at the start (note how the song goes back to the first few verses at the end) 'Holy Diver, you're the diamond of the masquerade, no need to look so afraid' is a message from God telling the Diver that he understands he is only human and he doesn't need to fear him or run away. 'Jump on the tiger, you can feel his heart but you know he's mean, some light can never be seen' is Gods message to the Diver; if you challenge the nonbelievers they will fight back, they are good people but they do not believe in salvation. So to me at least the song is basically the story of a holy man who tries to prove his faith and preach Gods love, even when noones listening. Personally I'm not religious, but I've been in times when religion seems like a beautiful thing so I guess that's what's given me this view. Peace out everyone. P.s. 2 things; 1) my opinion on the cd 2) my view on the song meaning And please, don't even bother replying to my opinion on the cd, because I'm going to ignore it completely and all it's going to do is add another 2 pages of 'let's webbash the hater'. 1) Now I don't mind when a bands music progresses, and if you've been listening to A7X since Sounding the Seventh Trumpet you'll know A7X is forever changing, but I'm so disappointed in this CD. There's a couple of tracks I love (Scream, Almost Easy and Gunslinger I guess), but really they're just turning into a metal version of Panic at the Disco (Fucking Horrible). The only thing that makes this cd still worth the $28 is the solo's, which are, as per usual; awesome. I just pray they don't play their new crap at their upcoming show with Atreyu and Bullet for my Valentine like last time or I'm going to have to butcher someone. 2) I think it's about how everyone thinks this song is about someone else. Naturally we shift the blame and look for a bigger enemy, seems Bush is the prime target at the moment even though the song doesn't refer to him at all, unless you think he's the 'high society' who's 'blaming their own nation for who wins the elections', and if you do think that, I think you're an idiot. |

Anywho, I've never really been a fan of MCR, but I think this song is great. The harmonisation in the chorus is wicked and Gerard pulls off some pretty nice vocals imo. This song always gave me the impression that the 'I' in this song was a male vampire and the 'You' is just some suicidal chick. Let me explain (it's pretty straightforward). first verse-She goes down to the graveyard and meets this guy, they fall in love. The townspeople come hunting him cos he's been sucking her blood and shit, so he runs away and takes her home and leaves her on the bathroom floor. second verse-The whole 'staring down a loaded gun' bit is about the fact he's already been 'killed' before. Slitting the wrists is just about her being suicidal and w.e. Did you get what you deserver? Is this what you always want me for? I dunno bout this so much, did she get in trouble for goin and sleeping with the beast maybe? I dunno >.< And lol wtf is with all the emo/poser/punk hate debate doing here? Seriously guys, you're not gonna change anything insulting people on an internet site. People grow out of images, there's no point in making them more miserable until that time comes. And it is okay to branch out from your one style of music, personally I'm really into my Heavy Metal (MANOWAR FTW!), but I don't see why I should feel ashamed for having a bit of variety. A7X throw a crap concert, this is coming from a ex-huge fan. Syn and the Rev aren't bad live, but Shadows tries to be gangsta, Zacky sounds like he's crying half the show and Christ is being the usual douschebag. Saying that, I'll admit I was pretty impressed with A7Xs City of Evil album, exspecially this song, M.I.A and Strength of the World. And honestly people 'their old stuff is so much better'?! Their old stuff is obsolete, there's a million other bands that have the exact same sound as Waking the Fallen or Sounding the Seventh Trumpet, if you're really keen on the screaming 90% of the time then at least look into Soilwork (more so the later cds, Chainheart Machine's pretty crap imho). This is the only half decent song by Cannibal Corpse imo. I mean the lyrics are shit (as are all of CC's apart from maybe Zero the Hero) but there's an ALRIGHT riff in there. If you honestly need a blastbeat and brutal singing listen to Runic or Wintersun (best Power Death band in the world). |
