Wouldn't interpret it as god. More as a woman who loves him in spite of his faults or rather his past...

So he's not talking about some sort of religious belief.
This song isn't about a supernatural entity from mythological folklore (i.e. "god"). It's about something totally real. It's about the love between two people.

I think that there could be alot of interpretations of this song, but when I first heard it I thought it was about finding a soulmate or a real best friend because they love you despite of all your flaws, and you get to a point where you aren't ashamed and you don't hide anything from them anymore, as in the line "I'm not afraid to show you who I am"
Also the line "For reaching out to help me Cross the bridges I have burned" could be about how your soulmate/best friend doesn't give up on you and however much you try to distance your self from them they will always be there for you and help you rebuilt what you have destroyed.
It is an absolutly beautiful song though, which ever way you look at it, and it can mean different things to each person depending on their own experiences, as with a lot of Meatloaf songs.
God's unfailing love. To interpret this song as 'a woman's faithful love for her man' is very futile and unoriginal. It's clearly about something much higher than that because of this:

I'd say that is pretty accurate. He does do a lot of songs with the theme of heaven and hell.
To me this is ultimately about a woman's love for the character. It is entirely possible to interpret the love as that of God and I thought you were right until I had a closer look. However, "you'll finally see That, baby..." , I doubt that God would be adressed as baby. I take the whole album as a Dracula type character singing, just to clarify.

To say that's the love of a woman for a man.. no... again that's futile...
If Meat were to have put 'God' instead of 'baby'... how many morons would scoff at the scoff as being 'wussy' and 'religious'... listen t most love songs, and replace 'baby' with 'Lord'.. then they reach a new level.
