| Nooooooo! Having different beliefs than what is said in the Bible does not mean you're not a Christian! That's incredibly ignorant if you to say that. | |

| okay. i'm just going to be blunt and say that i believe that this song, like sprawl ii, is about the deterioration of nature and how the world is growing and becoming even more industrialized. really think about it, this whole album has SO MANY environmental undertones. | |
| Arcade Fire – Sprawl II (Mountains Beyond Mountains) Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| am I the only one that took this from an entirely environmental perspective? like a call to stop urban sprawl? | |

| Snow Patrol – Set the Fire to the Third Bar Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| I've heard that the "third bar" is a reference to an electric heater. I know that sounds lame but that's what I've read and it makes sense "setting fire" to it and all.. | |
| Jimmy Eat World – Night Drive Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
if you look at the lyrics from the demo version, you realize it's not about just sex in the car. it might have something to do with it but there is a deeper meaning to it. i think it could have something to do with substance abuse "this quitting alone will never get you dry" here are the demo lyrics: i set my watch by a street lamp clock watching the needle move you pierced my heart and it all went dark it's something you make me do now's a right time for a good song put something between me and you do you feel bad, like i feel bad? pour us a road, we'll both drink and drive perhaps he sets his light to the street lamp clock's time because that's the time she buys the drugs, he's watching the needle which could represent both the ticking of the clock or the needle she is injecting with. take a look at the 3rd and 4th lines "you pierced my heart and it all went dark, it's something you make me do" she's doing something that hurts him and he wants to "put something between" them because he feels bad. the sexual aspects of the song show that they're using sex to put something between them as well. obviously even though the lyrics changed in the new version, it's easy to say that they would still incorporate the same meaning. hope that makes sense, let me know if you object. |

| Bush – The Chemicals Between Us Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
I love this song and I think it can be taken a lot of different ways. I definitely agree with dmander, I feel like this song could be about STDs. We're of the hollow men We are the naked ones We never meant you harm Never meant you wrong I'd like to thank All of my lovers, lovers, lovers I feel as if he has a girlfriend, but they can't have sex because he has an STD that he can't pass on. In the chorus above he's saying that mankind has become so obsessed with sex. In the beginning, they never realized the effects that sex can have on people, espescially the STDs that can come with it. He's thanking his old lover's ex partners at the end (sarcastically) for causing him to have the STD that doesn't allow them to have sex. The bed is lonely because there isn't any passion. |

Blahblah11 pretty much has it right, but I'm going to reiterate my opinion. :) "Oh, Marbella's on the run" "So Marbella upped and left" " Now Marbella's gone astray" -The singer's girlfriend, Marbella, has feigned away from their relationship: "I used to colour in the holes/ Now I leave them blank / Now it's only spaces I have cause to thank" -This means that she's left him and before he used to try to fix all the problems "the holes" in their relationship, but now he's letting it all go, and the space between them is satisfying to him. "Well, Marbella is my guest/ I treat her just like all the rest / Whisper fairytales of Neverland /Throw the pennies in her hand / Stroke her hair and tell her I've been cheating" -So now Marbella has come back to him and wants things to just go back to the way they were. But now he just treats her like he does every other girl in his life, he doesn't love her anymore. And that's when he tells her that while she left him all alone, he moved on and "cheated on her" since they had not technically broken up. Anyways, that's my two cents. |

loverly23 - interesting opinion, but i don't think you're 100% spot on. it could be a reference to the french revolution, but if you've read all the previous comments you would understand that it very well fits with modern circumstances. so i don't think it's fair for you to say it's "definitely a reference..." |

oh my, this is sooo true. straight from the young teenage heart. anyways, it's like what we all think. when we're young and have our first real relationship, we don't see anything bad in it. i know from my own experience, when i was fifteen and my boyfriend told me he loved me, i completely believed him, sadly the next week he went on a cruise and cheated on me with 3 girls. young hearts are so naïve. :/ |

i was listening to this song today for like the 29409790179047th time and all of the sudden i was liek WAIT I KNOW WHAT THIS IS TALKING ABOUT it's her telling her ex boyfrined that had broken up with her to just leave her alone. she can't be friends with him anymore and she's tired of him holding on to her. he's supposed to be over her and she's trying to get over him and is fed up with him always being around. he's changed and she's changed. things are different. correct me if i'm wrong. |

| Brand New – Jesus Christ Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
this could quite possibly be the most amazing song. i think it's about how the singer is a sinner and everything, and he wants to have faith in God and he knows about Jesus and everything, but somehow he can't help but doubt. And because of his doubts he continues to sin. He's not afraid to die because life is so hard for him at times, but he's worried if he'll actually get into heaven. He's guilt stricken and needs consoling. I love the lines "Or do I divide and pull apart, cause my bright is too slight to hold back all my dark. This ship went down in sight of land. And at the gates does Thomas ask to see my hands?" Saying like do I just give up because my sins are too much that they cover up all the good things that I've done. When I arrive at heaven, will St. Thomas ask to see if my hands are clean and therefore deny me entrance to heaven. Like I said, absolutely beautiful song |

| The Goo Goo Dolls – Sympathy Lyrics | 17 years ago |

| The Spill Canvas – Saved Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
i typically don't like songs with spiritual undertones, idk why. but this definitely has one. "My faith will never rust. No longer prone to bust. Oh, finally I believe." it could be taken either way. but i think that line kind of spells it out you know? he found God. that's my take on it. |

| Between the Trees – The Way She Feels Lyrics | 17 years ago |

it's about a girl who cuts herself because her life is really troublesome. and she ends up finding God. hence the "He" and he helps her through this. basically God hurts more when she's hurting herself because she doesn't trust him. didn't realize what it was talking about til i read the lyrics, pretty good song. |

| The Honorary Title – Petals Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
i picture a guy who has just tried to go over to his ex girlfriend's house and tried to patch things up with her and get back together and he brought her roses. but she tells him that she's moved on and she's fine and she doesn't need him. and he's happy that she's moved on but he just doesn't want to know that's she's doing fine because he's still hurt really bad. he can't bear the thought of her being happy without him. and now the petals of the roses are falling off because there isn't any hope now. just my opinion :) i love the honorary title. |

| Cartel – Wasted Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
i'm not completely sure what's so hard to get about this song... i mean i could be completely wrong with what i have to say but i think its about that we take life for advantage sometimes and before we know it lifes over. like, life can be cut short any time, so live each moment as if it's your last. |

| Kate Bush – Running Up That Hill Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
he song itself has often been misinterpreted. Kate Bush herself has said, "I was trying to say that, really, a man and a woman, can't understand each other because we are a man and a woman. And if we could actually swap each others roles, if we could actually be in each others place for a while, I think we'd both be very surprised! [Laughs] And I think it would be lead to a greater understanding. And really the only way I could think it could be done was either... you know, I thought a deal with the devil, you know. And I thought, 'well, no, why not a deal with God!' You know, because in a way it's so much more powerful the whole idea of asking God to make a deal with you. You see, for me it is still called "Deal With God", that was its title. But we were told that if we kept this title that it wouldn't be played in any of the religious countries, Italy wouldn't play it, France wouldn't play it, and Australia wouldn't play it! Ireland wouldn't play it, and that generally we might get it blacked purely because it had 'God' in the title." -kate bush i found that on wikipedia...not sure how valid that is but it sounds reasonable. |

| Earlimart – Nevermind the Phonecalls Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
amazingggg song. i'm thinking about something about a long distance relationship that's not as strong as it used to. the last line "but coming down's bettero n your own" it's like it's hard to be alone, but at least it's easier to let go when the other person is gone and not around. just my two cents. |
|
| Sugarcult – Pretty Girl (The Way) Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
it's songs like these that you hear and realize, thank god i'm not the only person who feels this way. that's what i love about music. great song right here, about a girl who loves a boy even though he treats her wrong. once you fall in love you can never fall out. it almost seems as if she gave this guy a second chance and once again he's failed her. |
|
| Tegan and Sara – Come On Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
okay, i can definitely see how this can be about something relating to school and everything. but i still like to interpret it to something sexy and everything haha. (and same with krsriotgrrrl12 i just checked out this song on itunes after reading your comment and i realized i too have the 'other' version, not the album one. the album one SUCKS compared to the other) |

| Meg & Dia – Joey Had A Smoke Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
the first part is about jesus' birth, but in a more modern sense. "the empty apartment" is the setting of jesus' birth (the barn? i can't think of the right word) "three older gentelmen" being the wisemen and the "wine, cards and chocolate" being the gold francensne and myrhh? and the part "with all the sins of the world in the iris, there's no false blood, but you will love him, he's from gold gardens our help before atlas was ever born" that's clearly about Christ. he died for the sins of the world, and he is perfect because he is God so his blood isn't tainted by sin. Gold Gardens would be heaven. And he has always and always will be the answer for the world and our guidance. when she says "he is no one. stranger i met on the street. he never touched me. you're all I need and will ever need" that's talking about how she never met him personally in the flesh but she knows him spiritually and he is everything she'll ever need. |
|
| The Honorary Title – Stay Away Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
woah! i just now realized that it does refer to a dance! not necessarily the point of the song in my opinion. i think the song is about a guy who is in a relationship that is on the verge of ending because the girl's giving up on them. the relationship has probably lost it's magic and she just wants something else. but he's still in love with her and just wants to be with her, so he's telling her to just stay with him even if she's just using him because he can't be without her presence. but if she wants to leave, then she just needs to leave, she can't be half invested. she either stays or she goes. i just don't get the "i can't dance less its slow or sad to a song that's far less obvious." what is that talking about? |
|
| Jimmy Eat World – Kill Lyrics | 18 years ago |

does this song even NEED an explanation? the lyrics speak for itself, and i know that everybody feels this way at some point or another. that's what makes it so great. |
