| Grateful Dead – Dire Wolf Lyrics

I agree about it being about getting what you deserve. i think the dire wolf is really all of the bad things a person has done just manifested, and the message behind the song is that if you do bad things to people bad things will happen back to you, when the dire wolf knocks on your door. and all you can do when he comes is let him in, and hope he doesn't swallow you whole |

this song stands out beautifully against the rolling stones. it simultaneously defines them and knocks down every idea of what they might be. its a great example of the growing nature of rock n' roll, as even the rolling stones branched out into new territory |

i take it as a pretty pissed off song about record labels, and the distance between who the monkees were and who people expected them to be |

to me, it seems sort of a call out to someone, and a cry that, you know, nobodys perfect. that doesn\'t mean they\'re all bad. and if you expect other people to be perfect, thats a negative quality. and i think its got to do with growing up enough to realize that its not about being perfect and seeing people for who they are no matter what mistakes they made. thats what i got out of it, at least. i really like the way the last two verses go together, they make me happy =] |

it made me think the first time i heard it, that, i and we, need to treasure what we have..if we don't enjoy what there is now, we'll never be able to enjoy anything. theres so much beauty in the world. a vein of stars..that makes me think of a river of starlight, guiding you. maybe we need to make our own river of stars. our own beaten path to dreamland, because heaven is right here and now. |

i think that one day this song will remind me of home, and make me want to come back to it. and i guess to me its a plea that the person from the song get out of this place and find where they belong, and also is a call for home, bc its such welcoming and open armed song i think |
