I'll confess, That 70's Show was the first place I heard it, but came searching for it when I heard it was a remake. Man, the second chorus woulda fit that show so well. |

Aw God, this reminds so much of how wonderful the innocent love of the early to mid teens was.....before you got older and all the drama and stuff made its way into relationships...../sigh |

The line "Can we get clean again" is a metaphore. Its not about getting off drugs or juice. Its "Can we wipe the slate clean and start over, forgetting the past mistakes in a relationship" |

C'mon read the lyrics...hehe...its about being in love with....A PROSTITUTE!
"I want to get off one time and not apologize" and
"I wanna get off one time and look you in the eyes" are about the guilt he feels paying for sex with her. Get off means 2 things, the physical act of getting off of her and the sexual metaphore "getting off" if ya know what I mean.
"She flexes her knees to try and abate the feeling".....She's doing a job, trying not to enjoy it.
"she mouths the words 'please' to the poster on the ceiling" is her trying to focus on something besides the act she is doing. |

K guys, read the lyrics again, keeping this thought in mind: If you loved someone with all your soul and they died, years later even if you are in a relationship, you're still gonna think about and love that person. Thats what the song is about.
And the line "I felt you long after we were through" following all the hospital talk is a much nicer metaphorical and lyrical way of saying "she died" 8^( |

By far one of Daves best lyrics. Soul Asylum were so far ahead of their time. Anyone who thinks they started in 93 with Runaway Train need to pick up there albums that they had been putting out since 1981!!!!!! |

Yep the song is from "And the Horse they Rode in On" from 1991. But look at the "Musical Score" credits at the end of Chasing Amy...it was.... Dave Pirner! |

I hear ya Metalendolp. Their album "Dim Light" is the only reason I made it through a very rough bout of depression in the mid nineties. Its not the only reason I'm still here, but it is a big part of it. |

Actually the "somebody to shove" was kinda a wierd insertion. Replace it with "somebody to love". I think the reason Dave used "shove" was cause "shove" brought it to a point where the people are so frustrated with being alone that they are angry. He actually commented once that Jefferson Airplane allready had a song "somebody to love". |

LOVE this song...Its about the jaded, bored and lost feeling you get in your late teens/early twenties where your just not sure whats going on or where you're going in life. This woulda made a great theme somg to "That 70's Show" cept its not from the 70's...hehe. |

Actually, this was the one song on the album that was written and sung by guitarist Dan Murphy. And it was inspired by being on the road missing his 5(?) year old son. Thats right out of a Rolling Stone interview. Although the Lyrics were tailored to a relationship. |
