Somebody To Shove Lyrics
Grandfather watches the grandfather clock
And the phone hasn't rang for so long
And the time flies by like a vulture in the sky
Suddenly he breaks into song
I'm waiting by the phone
Waiting for you to call me up and tell me I'm not alone
I'm waiting by the phone
Waiting for you to call me up and tell me I'm not alone
Hello, speak up, is there somebody there?
These hang-ups are getting me down
In a world frozen over with over-exposure
Let's talk it over, let's go out and paint the town
I'm waiting by the phone
Waiting for you to call me up and tell me I'm not alone
Cause I want somebody to shove
I need somebody to shove
I want somebody to shove me
You're a dream for insomniacs, prize in the Cracker Jacks
All the difference in the world is just a call away
And I'm waiting by the phone
Waiting for you to call me up and tell me I'm not alone
Yes I'm waiting by the phone
I'm waiting for you to call me up and tell me I'm not alone
Cause I want somebody to shove
I need somebody to shove
I want somebody to shove me
Yes I want somebody to shove
I need somebody to shove
I want somebody to shove me
And the phone hasn't rang for so long
And the time flies by like a vulture in the sky
Suddenly he breaks into song
Waiting for you to call me up and tell me I'm not alone
I'm waiting by the phone
Waiting for you to call me up and tell me I'm not alone
These hang-ups are getting me down
In a world frozen over with over-exposure
Let's talk it over, let's go out and paint the town
Waiting for you to call me up and tell me I'm not alone
Cause I want somebody to shove
I need somebody to shove
I want somebody to shove me
All the difference in the world is just a call away
Waiting for you to call me up and tell me I'm not alone
Yes I'm waiting by the phone
I'm waiting for you to call me up and tell me I'm not alone
I need somebody to shove
I want somebody to shove me
Yes I want somebody to shove
I need somebody to shove
I want somebody to shove me

awesome song! it still gets played on the radio a lot here, definetly a song about a guy who is alone and depressed and takes an optimistic approach and just wants someone, probably a girl that he likes or dated to come back to him, possibly even just push him around a bit.
Actually the "somebody to shove" was kinda a wierd insertion. Replace it with "somebody to love". I think the reason Dave used "shove" was cause "shove" brought it to a point where the people are so frustrated with being alone that they are angry. He actually commented once that Jefferson Airplane allready had a song "somebody to love".
Well a little over 10 years ago this song would have hundreds of comments, but times have changed. This was one of Soul's biggest songs, and definetly check out the MTV unplugged version. The song is pretty self explanatory i think, and I won't bother to get into it because obviously no one ever looks here.
This song is far from dead! I just heard it on the radio last night. Yeah, it is an obvious song, and it's obviously great. I love the riff and the rhythm.
This song came out when I was 15, and it played all the time. I’d met this girl on a youth group trip that was only lightly chaperoned, and we hooked up. We started dating, but strangely, she went to a boarding school out of town, so I could only see her on some weekends. It didn’t last very long, but it was awesome while it lasted. Calling her at that school was a pain in the ass, because someone would have to track her down, and only during certain hours. So I remember listening to this song after school, and willing her to call me...and oftentimes, it worked!
Sweet song! Who doesn't need someone to give them a kick in the butt sometimes?
