| Pulp – A Little Soul Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| It's about his own Dad most likely - He was by all accounts a 'colourful' character... It's the old mans pathetic excuses... | |
| Ash – Miserable Lie Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| Ash covered a Smiths song???? I can only imagine :( | |

| Morrissey – I've Changed My Plea To Guilty Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| Oh my - Hear it live twice last week, and the sentiment has tremendous emotional weight - A truely heart-breaking song about loneliness | |
| Morrissey – A Song From Under The Floorboards Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
Apparently HD wrote it in Manchester, whilst living in a real s**t hole with insects under the floorboards... When Moz snag it at the Apollo he told his home audience that it was about 'Newton Street'(???) and they all cheered, so maybe the houses down there haven't changed that much... At first I was a bit put out that Moz changed some of HD's lyrics... But then I thought how with him, even his own songs aren't sacred, so I guess it's just second nature to him to amend lyrics until they fit him! |

| Morrissey – We'll Let You Know Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
Moz played this live at V Festival this year... As it was one of the songs he was previously cruxified for (NME on heir 'racist' witch hunt) it did make me wonder if either he (a) wanted to fan the flames again or (b) he likes this one, and thought it was ok to sing it now... It is about football hooligans, the racist chants they sing, and the fact that for the bulk of the world (particularly Europe at the time it was writen) the only 'English' people they ever read about, or heard about were these hooligans - The last truely British people you will ever know... Might be interesting to add that Moz is a massive football fan... |

| Morrissey – Christian Dior Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
Ah, 'what a terrible mess I've made of my life... what a mess I've made of my life!'... It seemed a bit much when a 23 year old was saying that, but at 47, maybe he has a point??? That said, plenty of people would swap their wives and kids (or more interesting encounters with rent boys!!!) for being a rock star with a load of cash to spend on designer shirts he just tears off and throw for his adoring audience to devour... Moz, if you are feeling lonely, give me a bell ;) |

| The Killers – Why Don't You Find Out for Yourself? (Morrissey cover) Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| I had no idea that The Killers had covered a Moz song, and I was really aprehensive before I heard it - in a Oh My God, Don't Ruin It! kind of way, even though I love Brandon and the lads - I wasn't disappointed as they left absolutely everything exactly the same as the original, although obviously without Mozzers singing, which will always beat Brandon, but hey! I wonder if it means something to them though? Have they had this experience? It's a Moz album track, so not an obvious choice for a cover... | |
| Morrissey – I'll Never Be Anybody's Hero Now Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| Def the best song off the new album - Absolutely beautiful! A real testament to those who think that he has somehow 'lost it'... He hasn't, it's all here... I don't know if he's my hero though - I don't know if I would actually want to be LIKE Moz... | |
| Pulp – They Suffocate at Night Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
The best Pulp song - and one of my all time favourites full stop! This song has everything you could want to hear from Jarvis, damaged relationships, claustrophobia and bad sex! Yet, somehow, stunning and beautiful - Means alot to me cos it got me through uni many many years ago - I just used to play this and Death II (not on here! Must amend that!) constantly - drove my housemates mad, but so inspirational... Can't believe I have been the first to post!!! |

| Pulp – The Fear Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
Oh, and someone got quite a few of the lyrics wrong... I've pasted the whole lot below - If anyone wants to amend them (cos I don't know how to!) they can delete this post... This is our "Music from A Bachelors Den" - the sound of loneliness turned up to ten. A horror soundtrack from a stagnant water-bed And it sounds just like this. This is the sound of someone losing the plot - making out that they're okay when they're not. You're gonna like it, but not a lot and the chorus goes like this: Oh baby, here comes the fear again. The end is near again. A monkey's built a house on your back. You can't get anyone to come in the sack and here comes another panic attack Oh here we go again. So now you know the words to our song, pretty soon you'll all be singing along. When you're sad, when you're lonely and it all turns out wrong. When you've got the fear. And hen you're no longer searching for beauty or love - just some kind of life with the edges taken off. When you can't even define what it is that you're frightened of this song will be here. Oh baby, here comes the fear gain. The end is near again. If you ever get that chimp off your back. If you ever find the thing that you lack but you know you're only having a laugh and here we go again. Until the end. |

| Pulp – The Fear Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| Although sex is one of Jarv's fave topics, this isn't about sex... It's def about depression - he has recently said that the whole 'This is Hardcore' album was written at the lowest point in his life - in fact not long after it's release he was back in Sheffield and under medical supervision... I know cos I live in Sheffield and was told by a nurse! Nice to know your secrets are safe with the medics! It is all about expecting fame to be better than it is, feeling cheated and just wanting something normal to come to take the pain away - Monkey on your back - that would normally refer to a drug problem, and he did have one for a while, although his problems are more to do with depression... | |
| Morrissey – You've Had Her Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| Well, this seems very misogynistic, doesn't it Mr Morrissey? Well, it looks pretty obvious - I've shagged someone I've been wanting to shag for ages, and now I'm not bothered... Already thinking about the next conquest... To be honest though, even if this isn't quite the way Moz sees things, it's very much a northern bloke attitude... | |
| Morrissey – Suedehead Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| Oh and people (NME, Uncut, etc) say that Ringleader of the Tormentors was the first time Moz ever mentioned sex... This is a top song - the sentiments are spot on about what it's like to sleep with someone you weren't that bothered about, but who is now clinging like a limpet! Live he sings 'so many empty pages' rather than 'so many illustrations' ... I think that's even better than the original lyrics... I like the way that with Moz, his lyrics are not sacred, and he's happy to change them to suit his mood... | |
| John Lennon – Working Class Hero Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| This song is just a beautiful poem, that resonates so much in the working class north - my husband (working class south) says that it's badly dated, and that in England you get what you work for... But if you've gone to a sink school, lived in a council house and experienced what it is to be on the lower rungs of the class system, in the north you will get no further... Lack of expectation from all around you, lack or resources and poor quality education with teachers barely qualified to do the job (many these days are the ones who actually failed their degrees!) keep the intelligent kids down... It is nigh on impossible to move on... I moved away and got my degree - still earn less than those without degrees, but who attended better schools... At least I didn't get traped in a call centre though - the factories of the future!!! | |
| Morrissey – Trouble Loves Me Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| xdvr's right - Soho isn't just a gay area, but it is a very sordid part of town - sex shops, strip clubs, prositutes (17 and a model? I doubt it love!) The 'Can't get you out of my head'part is very emotionally conveyed though - A song def directed at someone... | |
| Morrissey – Speedway Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| It does appear to be about that court case, slamming hammers and all... The last part of the song may relate to him taking all the flak from the press when Marr had only done exactly as he had done... Mind you, can you imagine Mozzer in court? His mouth would be working for the prosecution! | |
| The Wedding Present – My Favourite Dress Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| One of the best songs ever about how a bloke feels when his girlfriend goes off with someone else... David Lewis Gedge isn't ashamed to be absolutely honest, he doesn't hold back anything... So many Manchester song writers write about pain, but most seem to put a slant om it that it really doesn't hurt or bother them anymore... He doesn't and this song is all the more poignant for it... | |

| The Wedding Present – Brassneck Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| Another song about Sally? No one does angry bitterness like bands from Manchester and no one does it better that The Wedding Present - By far one of the best songs that anyone has ever written!!! | |
| Morrissey – The Boy Racer Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| Jealousy gets you everywhere then doesn't it? I remember a interviewer asking Moz if he thought 'he'd got the whole world in his hands, stood at the urinal'... Think it was met by a one word reply - no... | |
| Morrissey – Sorrow Will Come In The End Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| If I was Mike Joyce I'd probably move, just in case his ex bandmate and lunatic enemy turned up to carry out this hardly veiled threat... Oh Morrissey! I know you won't pay him, I know he's cost you loads in court costs, but just walk away! And if you can't walk away, counter claim! | |
| The Smiths – How Soon Is Now? Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
I remember hearing Death II(?) by Pulp when I was at uni, and thinking that many of it's sentiments echoed 'How Soon is Now?' - I never did get why this was supposed to be a 'gay' song - Shock! Horror! The idea of going to a night club to find a lover quite often occurs to straight people too!!! And guess what? Certain people often find themselves left at the bar at 2.30am, alone and having missed the last bus home... Sad but true... I was first attracted to the lyrics of this one as a teenager - It was the phrase 'I go about things the wrong way' - such a northern sentiment, and so often said about me at the time... |
|
| The Smiths – Asleep Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
Not to be too off hand, but I heard about this song cos I was a sad little northerner Smiths fan when I was 12... 32 now, so think that 'Perks' might be a bit too american and kid-like for me now ;) It is truely beautiful - quiet and plaintive, yet peaceful... Morrissey can't half write, can't he, eh? |
|
| The Smiths – I Know It's Over Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
Oh this is the BEST Smiths song!!! The best lyrics for sure! So oft quoted, one of my friend's recently recieved a text message from a guy who she'd had a one night stand with, saying: 'I know it's over and it never really began but in my heart it was so real' She thought it was scary - she isn't a Smiths fan, so I told her it was a quote... It also always makes me think of a weird, lonely boy at my Uni (Manchester, actually) who was one of those who obsess about girls and who follows you around, but noone ever fancies... Me and another girl used to sing him the 'If you're so funny' lines... Yes I know, Girls are cruel... Morrissey obviously knows this too... |
|
| Morrissey – Driving Your Girlfriend Home Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| This one probably reads more like a poem than any of his others - It's brilliant though cos it's all very ambiguous - Whose girlfriend is she? Why is she telling him about her boyfriends imperfections? What does she expect him to do? The last bit about shaking hands just makes me smile!!! | |
| Morrissey – I Know It's Gonna Happen Someday Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| This is THE BEST Morrissey song!!! Beautiful - made me realise why I thought he was so great!!! Because he can write about love and hope and make it sound desperate... | |
| Morrissey – Hairdresser On Fire Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| This is a bizarre song, and one I hated til I heard it live... Is it really about trying to get your hair cut? God knows... It's not about Orton's Boy Hairdresser though - Read that and you'll know this has no similarity at all... Why would a haircut 'supernaturally change' him? He's had the same hair cut for years! I am sure he can sort his own quiff out by now! | |
| Morrissey – The More You Ignore Me, The Closer I Get Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| A song to Joyce - Nice... Oh Moz, you are so sinister... Anyways, Moz still hasn't paid him has he? | |
| Morrissey – Get Off The Stage Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| And does a 47 yr old Moz still sing this? No... Enough said!!! Strange how your perceptions of age change as you yourself get older! | |
| Morrissey – Disappointed Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
"All your friends and your foes Would rather die than have to touch you" TO SAY THE LEAST: I'm truly disappointed I think that this is just about Morrissey - He's probably 'disappointed' that things haven't changed for him in the way that he had imagined... Even though he was famous, he was still him... On live sets he has sung "All your friends and your foes Would rather die than have to shag you" which ties in with him saying that his celibate periods were not out of choice! |
