I was listening to this song today and it was one of those A-HA moments where the song didn't necessarily mean much before but now that I've been in a situation I think that mirrors the song, it makes much more sense. If the song at all reflects what my situation is, it is about two people who have met and spent time with each other only to kind of realize that while they appreciated each other they maybe weren't completely compatible. But they're deep enough in that they (or at least she) wants to try to make it work anyway, even though by the end of the song we can tell that it just isn't going to happen. She would be content with a more laid back relationship, she doesn't need for the two of them to be breathing down each others' necks, but he just isn't into it that way. That's my own interpretation, anyway. :) |

| Andrew talks about this song in this month's Spin magazine. He said it is about reservation signing with their record label, and that they were thinking about patients in a mental hospital hiding their pills under their tongues and then spitting them out afterwards. | |

"Always remember there was nothing worth sharing Like the love that let us share our name" The first time I heard that line I fell in love with it. It's just a stunning little piece of poetry. |

So, this isn't necessarily what I think the song is about, but it definitely COULD be about celebrity. The chorus completely reminds me of fame: "Anyone could see the road that they walk on is paved in gold And it's always summer they'll never get cold They'll never get hungry They'll never get old and gray" Mm? |

| I am clueless as to what this song means but I have to agree with the commenters above me who claim that Nick Torres is a musical genius. He's such an incredibly brilliant songwriter. | |

| You people really all just want a say... do you know the band personally? THEY TOLD ME VERBATIM THAT THE SONG IS SIMPLY ABOUT LIFE AS A ROBOT. Put deeper meaning into it. I, too, like imagining there is some. But there is not. | |

| How about you stop commenting on how much you love the song and do what this site is intended for and analyze it and try and analyze what it actually means? | |

| aacidburn818, Nick Torres is a completely abstract songwriter. The scenes you conjure up are in fact the picture being presented to the listener but not his intentions behind the lyrics. You are supposed to take those things and think of what they could mean symbolically. I agree with lifted_to_the_sky, that's exacly how I feel about the song. I think it's about how the relationship has been over for a while but he didn't have the courage to end it until now. | |

| NightPride911 is right. Casey wrote this song about being a robot. Half of their songs have very shallow meanings, they're just presented very creatively. See my comment on "The Rival Cycle." | |

| This song is about masturbation. I'm not kidding, they told me about it when they were writing the album. | |
