SoSmileAndLookAlive--I know it was 2 years ago but I just wanted to say this guy's a douche. You don't speak for all Incubus fans, neither does your interpretation of their albums speak for their true intentions. You don't know. But if you had watched all the interviews and the MTV Cribs and and truly listened to the music on Morning View perhaps you would realize that it was as pure and as heartfelt, (in my opinion moreso) than any other Incubus album. It is the one I happened to connect to the most, it is in fact my favorite album of all time. The sound of the snare echoing through the room in the Morning View house, the acoustic backing to most of the songs, the strings, the liberal application of turntables, the relatable and understandable yet interpretable lyrics, and the way he sung. That album changed my life forever and I frankly find it offensive that you think you are the authority on the matter. People can listen to and enjoy whatever the hell they'd like. |

I know that Reznor said it isn't about Bush but the parallels are too easy to draw. Someone who's been "elected to office" and pushes buttons dropping bombs (or goes to war) doesn't do anything to help affairs in other areas of the world (Guatemala) and ignores the criticism. Doesn't do anything to help middle or lower class citizens. The reverse could be said, though, about how Bush represented many things that were wrong with people and politicians. If the song is not meant for Bush then it could be said that Bush easily fits the type of general person that Reznor is singing about. |

People think that if they move to a big city everything will magically get better, but it doesn't. It is hard everywhere. And your problems will not disappear, they will always follow you wherever you go (can't escape a sky that's falling). You should focus on working out what you need to work out where you are now, get everything in order, and THEN you can go on ahead to New York, Mexico, Vegas, or wherever you like. |

Just to set the record straight, Incubus isn't a big fan of their high school album. At least they weren't a while after Make Yourself came out. Odds are they're even less of a fan. (I cite an Australian TV show interview. A fan is like, "Fungus Amongus rocks," and Brandon goes, "Ohhhh..." He looks at Mike "No comment...") Fungus Amongus is just a crazy trippy album by a bunch of high schoolers with a shitload of potential. Hell, I'd love to meet someone who could slap like Dirk did on this album. And one of Mike's solo's is berserk, I forget which. It's hard to picture some high schoolers doing this. As a musician now it's a bit scary trying to compete with it. |

Oh sorry, my interpretation. Sometimes the only proof that you're truly in love is when you feel that pain that you can only feel when you're in love, it hurts deep down in your heart. Therefore love sometimes the heart ache is a good thing, as the negative is a reassurance of the positive. Basically the song is about how easy it is to fall in love when your young, but as you go through relationships and have your heart broken so many times you shelter yourself against the bad feelings and inadvertantly the good feelings as well. As we grow older and go through many relationships, falling into TRUE love is far more difficult than it used to be, and the proof is usually in the pain. Love goes through a lot of hardships but when it makes it past all of that, it is absolutely divine. It's all about feeling true love. |

In Chevelle's case it is clearly the latter. As to the meaning of the song, I personally find it rather vague and convoluted. The message isn't clear enough to the listener(the listener who doesn't go and watch interviews or read about it online or whatever). 1. This is a soundtrack song, soundtrack songs are not notorious for their brilliant popularity. People don't run around furiously buying soundtracks, in fact, I've never purchased a sound track a day in my life. Admitadely, Incubus is a bit different, as I believe Monuments and Melodies was on a soundtrack, and it is just an extremely beautiful song. 2. All Incubus songs take some getting used to, especially the newer ones. This song definitely isn't as good as any of their old stuff, but that's to be expected. That's how it is with 90% of most artists today. I still think it's a great song, although I'm also an Incubus fanboy. 3.oOalwaysmeOo you're fucking retarded. Songs on Enjoy Incubus and S.C.I.E.N.C.E also involve Brandon making noises like "Yeah!" and "Ha!", they are onomotopeias, and you're clearly a dumbass for thinking they hold any real relevance to the song itself. You're also a moron for reviewing their latest single when you don't like their style anymore. 4. This song was written very fast, and the band had done nothing whatsoever music wise before getting together for these three songs on the soundtrack. Brandon basically said "We threw it together in five minutes". It still sounds pretty damn good. I listen to rap, so I could really give a fuck about lyrics, yeah these lyrics are lack-luster to Incubus's normal work, but the rythym of the song itself still makes me sing and dance. |
