Punch Drunk

To me, this song is about wandering around town "punch drunk" and sort of philosophizing. Kind of getting lost inside of your head while drunk. I love the whole part about hitch hiking and forgetting your name. It's my favorite song on the new album.

A few weeks after i heard the song I got wicked drunk on a Friday night and decided to walk around campus (UMASS!) In my drunken stupor I imagined myself inside of this song. Eventually I hitched a ride back to my dorm and thought for one evening I was exactly like Brandon Boyd. It was pretty sweet.

A nice, mellow track. :] It gives me a very Radiohead-esque vibe. I love it. Some of it doesn't sound like Brandon to me. Everytime I hear it, I just slow down ... like the pace of the song.

Shockingly awesome song, can't believe this was left of the UK/US versions! A lot more depth than the rest of Light Grenades, which as a whole lacks the lyrical beauty of Make Yourself and even A Crow.

this first verse of this song reminds me so much of morning bell by radiohead, the "where'd you park the car" part.

ahah the topic of the song seems pretty similar to "deep inside" which talks about getting stoned and getting lost.

It's really interesting how this band has matured and grown and to see their take on essentially the same topic before.

It seems to me like Brandon got hammered and needed a ride back home :P

Nobody's mentioned the term "punch drunk" as meaning down or depressed from repeated blows... sorta like nothing's gone ur way lately and ur in a type of dazed depression as a result. In this regard the song reminds me more of Aqueous Transmission as Brandon seems to just be drifting about trying to get back where he belongs... sorta like "floating down a river named emotion" and trying to "make it back to shore or drift into the unknown." But hey, it depends on how u listen to Aqueous Trans... I like the Deep Inside connection, too, though. Definitely an awesome song and a shame it wasn't put on the US/UK version of Light Grenades (which is still kickass)...

The first time I heard the song, I thought "punch drunk" meant down or depressed from repeated blows as well. I also thought of "deep inside" right away too, but I like how "bboydisgenius" also related it to aqueous. This song's style is different from anything they have done in my eyes, and thats what I love about incubus, just seeing them grow as a band and mix parts of their lives into amazing songs.

Not sure why this song didn't make the final cut on the US release. It seems to fit into the theme of the whole album... One of the first things I noticed with this song (actually surprised nobody's mentioned it yet) is it offers a parallel to Anna Molly in which he's "sober w/lonliness" vs "punch drunk" in this song. I maybe reading into it too deep but I interpreted the song as a post-breakup(like Anna Molly) except in this one he got himself drunk & found a fling to try & cure his loneliness.

Played this as the encore @ Harborlights in Boston last month... it rocked. And to the above I know what those crazy nights @ UMass are all about.

This song is amazing! They played it live at Columbus this summer and I fell in love. Too bad it wasn't released on the US/UK version. The album still kicks ass.
