I'm searching for the part of my text (on this entire message board) where i said that i hate this country. Oh, wait!!! That's right, i changed my username to "USA_h8er"... I had forgotten (Being sarcastic). I don't hate this country, but i do hate the current admistration. I'm frustrated because it seems everyday, our rights are being slowly widdled away. I'm distressed at the amount of control Bush holds over our Legislative and Judicial Branch. I don't think ANYBODY (not even our greatest presidents) should have (or have had) access to this type of power. And please do not bash on foreigners. I realize you're upset that a foreigner knows more information about our country than most citizens do (more of a reason to raise funding for education [the US, ranks among the stupidest amongst industrilized nations]), but come on... Be resonable. Foreigners don't hate our country, they hate our government. They hate that Bush thinks that he can roll our tanks into any country that "posses a threat" (which is a very general term). They hate that we went against the will of the UN in order to enter Iraq. They hate that our culture is being globalized at an ever increasing rate, causing these countries to lose much of their cultural heritage (teenagers there only want to listen to the cool American Music, and see American Films). But more than this, i think they hate that most Americans have a "fuck the world, i'll do what i please" attitude. Just an observation, feel free to tell me what you think. |

Look, I'm not condoning anything that happened on 9/11. It was a terrible, terrible event, and i will never forget it. But, I've noticed that Americans only decide to remember certain people who are massacred and killed. Do we get all teary eyed about the hundreds of thousands of native americans that our own government slaugtered during the 18th and 19th century? No we don't, but we build a memorial to those who lost their lives in the holocaust? So what's the difference? During the holocaust Hitler was responsible, during the trail of tears our own president (Jackson) was responsible. Hmm... it's a lot easier to cast blame when the sadistic fucker causing all of the death lives in another country. As far a WWII goes, we entered that war because there was an act of aggression against us (Pearl Harbor) by an actual country (Japan). My point is, very few people protested WWII because we were openly attacked (just as few people opposed going into Afganistan). Iraq however, had never attacked us, and Hussein was not supporting Osama Bin Laden and there were no Weapons of Mass Destuction. Hussein hated people like Bin Laden because he is an Islamic Fundamentalist. Of the people that Hussein had murdered in Iraq, many of them were Islamic Fundamentalists (Hussein felt they were a threat). Another note: Since we've been in Iraq, over 22,000 Iraqi civilians have been killed... oh but wait... i forgot... we don't like to take credit for shit like that... |

Haven't posted in a while... OKAY, where to begin... *Thru7being7Cool* "The United States gets 2/3 of its oil from ALASKA!!!???" You've got to be joking. Seriously, we get most of our oil from Texas, South America, and THE MIDDLE EAST!!! HMMM... Iraq has the second richest reserve of oil on the PLANET. Have you noticed that gas prices have skyrocketed since we went into Iraq? Want to know why? Because OPEC (made up mostly of countries in the Middle East [countries which hate us because of our involvement in Israel the past 50+ years]) got pissed at us (for about the billionth time) and cut their production, causing gas prices to skyrocket. Now, if we got 2/3 of our oil from Alaska, wouldn't prices have gone up marginally instead of gone up by a dollar a gallon? BLAH BLAH BLAH. I hate this song because it's anti-american and anti-morals, and anti-family, and anti-religion, and pro-terrorist, and pro-gays, and pro- abortion and pro-Osama Bin Laden BLAH BLAH BLAH. WHEN DID SYSTEM OF A DOWN BECOME SO POLITICAL? It couldn't have been since their first album! Yeah this song creates horrible morale for our troops!!! (having to live in a helliesh desert, getting shot at, and watching their comrades getting blown apart seems to have less of an effect) How the fuck can we forget 9/11 with president fucktard continuously holding it over our heads? Now if you'll excuse me, i'm going to head over to the Toby Keith message board to tell everybody there how much i HATE his MUSIC and tell everbody there that his music is shit and i totally disagree with his songs, and praise our retard of a president for graduating from Yale (i guess they don't teach you how to properly speak English there) |

| Rammstein – Amerika Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| I didn't mean to offend anybody, all i'm saying is that countries are becoming more and more Americanized. That CAN (not will) lead to different countries losing their cultural identity. Germany has totally [positively] influenced the United States (more than most Americans know), but now it seems that we're influencing (sometimes forcefully so) everyone else (often negatively)... That's what i think this song is about. | |

I just wanted to say that "feezle steeks" interpretation of this song is amazing. You guys should all read it (even though it is long). Probably the most in depth i've ever seen anyone go. One more thing. On the "We're the animators, that deanimate" part, it almost sounds (maybe i'm hearing things) that they're saying "We're the Arab Haters, that the Arabs Hate". Does anyone else hear this? |

OK, i think i've discovered the pattern to this message board. 1. Someone says what they think the song means. 2. Someone (or several) people support this claim, and contribute. 3. Some jackass comes on and says that System of a down is full of shit/Anti-American/Anti-Family/Pro-Terrorist/Hates-The-Soldiers/Anti-God... and the list goes on and on. 4. An argument ensues, with people taking sides. Chaos ensues. 5. Someone puts an end to the hostility by saying that everyone's opinion matters. Everybody is happy... FOR NOW... (dramatic music) 6. Repeat steps 1-5 What i still don't understand, is that you people that are so against this song, act as if they SUDDENLY got all political. If "vandealroller" is such a huge fan of System of a Down, why are you now so upset about these lyrics? Have you heard P.L.U.C.K.? Have you heard Boom? If you look at their lyrics most of them are political (even from their very first albums). So what's the problem? If you have an interpretation of the song, great. If you want to express your views of the song, great. If you want to bash the band, and talk about how much respect you've lost for them... go rot in hell. One more thing, "Vandalroller", have you ever considered that there are people who don't believe in God and Moses and the Bible? I would argue that you are the one that is "ignorant", because you are not respecting peoples' diverse religious views here. |

Ok, here's my take on this song. It's about the United States because people in this country have an "i don't give a fuck what other people think about us" attitude. Everything has to be bigger in the United States (We drive huge vehicles just because we can). We always seem to take this to the extreme, somehow (System of a Down is sarcastically saying this). Imagine a European saying "Man, i just took a mean shit, it sure stinks". An American interjects "oh yeah, well my shit stinks more than yours, you don't know anything about shit!!! We invented shit in America!!!" ***Do you guys get my point? ***michael879*** said "Our government has never commited genocide". ---What do you call the forced relocation (read: slaughter) of the native Americans in the 18th and 19th century? Does the trail of tears ring a bell? |

| Rammstein – Amerika Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
Umm... i'm not really sure what to say... I think this song is actually about the globalization of American culture. I went to Germany in 2001 (Pre 9/11) and it is shockingly similar to the States. Almost all of their music is American music. On top of that, most of them speak English (it's a requirement in most schools). I think Rammstein might be upset at how Germany (and much of the world) is losing it's cultural heritage because of America. I would think that's why the world dislikes us. I think that Europe also sees us coming dangerously close to being a military empire. I've noticed that many Americans have a "we don't give a fuck what the world thinks of us, we'll do what we want" attitude. The world views us as sort of a "jerk" of a country. No one wants to be around the asshole that doesn't care about anybody else, the one that wants things his/her way. One more thing, i'm tired of people bitching about France. I realize that we saved them in WWI and WWII, but if it wasn't for France we would have never won our independence from Britain. |

| System of a Down – B.Y.O.B. Lyrics | 20 years ago |

"immortalsoul": B.Y.O.B. stands for Bring Your Own Bombs (according to the System of a Down website). "AIC4life": If you actually read the lyrics, it says: Blast off, and we DON'T live in a fascist nation. Read the lyrics before making an ass of yourself. |

| Green Day – Holiday Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
PGM: "Zieg Heil" was what the Nazis would say while saluting Hitler/their country. It means "Hail Victory". They would say it when they would do their Hitler salutes. I would argue that rather than comparing Bush to Hitler, they are comparing our country to Nazi Germany. I think they are saying that our country follows its leaders blindly (much like Nazi Germany did). Bush tells us to do something, and we run off and do it (a lot of people not even questioning it because he's our "supreme commander). I love the "kill all the fags that don't agree" line, not because i agree with it but because it is sarcastic. This is the first band i've heard tackle homosexual rights in this way. I salute Green Day for this. A lot of people are afraid to stand up for homosexuals because they're afraid of negative repurcusions throughout the country. |

| Dave Matthews Band – American Baby Intro Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
Is that Dave on the piano? Wow, this song sets up American Baby perfectly!!! I think the missiles and bombs set up the message for American Baby. I believe that American Baby is about the soldiers that America is sending overseas, and their families that want them to stay. This song is interesting because it's almost like a mish-mash of several different musical ideas put together. It stops and starts suddenly. At the end you have the VERY sad violen part, reminding me of music that you hear in movies about the holocaust (think Schindler's List). |

Actually, Big_Scary, you make very good points. I know personally i don't look down upon just because you aren't from this country. Ok, i'm tired of you people bitching about how System of a Down are millionaires. I'm sure they are, but that doesn't mean that they don't want to help to change the problems in our society. What's the best way to make change happen? To educate people. This may not be achieved by them singing this song, but it is achieved, in a small part, by the discussion on this board. Many of you have your own opinions and you have voiced them. Many of you don't really know what you think about our country, but you have learned some stuff from this board. That's good. Have you heard any other songs on the radio lately that actually promt this type of discussion? Very few bands actually sing about anything other than screwing chicks, getting high, falling in love, and getting your heart broken. I think it's refreshing to have a band that tackles "more difficult" material (like politics) That said, do you realize how much System of a Down gives to the community? Check out axisofjustice.org to see that Serj helps to run a non profit organization to bring about social change. System of a Down also has several benefit concerts every year. All of theproceeds from the concerts are donated to a charity or global aid organization. They may be millionaires, but they are much more giving than most of the millionaires out there. |

In the booklet for the new CD, Daron has this awesome quote: "...In your world you can take a pen and write on a piece of paper and destroy 200,000 people or more and it's ok because you don't have to see it..." -Charles Manson (no i'm not condoning anything Charles Manson did) The new CD rocks!!! |

It always amazes me that some of you stupid fucks have access to a computer. I thought some of the other posts were idiotic and fucked up, but banned_for_no_reason's completely takes the cake. Ok first of all, the memebers of System of a Down are of Armenian descent, NOT from Armenia (ie. born there). To tell them to go home is a completely rascist and idiotic thing to say. I'm willing to bet that your relatives imagrated into the U.S. at some time or another. Why don't you go home? Second, why the fuck are you posting this on a System of a Down message board? I don't go and post a bunch of stupid shit for a song that i don't like. I say to myself "i don't like that song, i hope i don't hear it again". Does this make you feel better about yourself? You've insulted everybody on this board (those for and against Bush) by saying that "normal people" don't listen to this music. If you don't like the song you should: 1. Call up you mom, 2. Tell here that you've never been laid 3. Have her hold your hand while she takes you to the marine recruiter office. 4. Try not to wet your pants because you have been "sheltered" (ie. brainwashed) all of your life 5. Send George Bush an email saying how much you love him, and that you want to suck him off 6. Convert to a "legit" religion 7. Go and get your arms blown off in Iraq, so you can't mastabate to your mom's pictures 6. Stop taking up space on this message board. PEOPLE LIKE YOU ARE THE REASON THAT AMERICA IS SO FUCKED UP. |

Amen zedzedBadnustuy!!! You've completely made my argument for me!!! As Joseph Stalin once said "The death of one man is a tradgedy. The death of millions of men is just a statistic". I'm also glad that someone on this board has the decency to respect human life. TREXOR does have a point: as long as there are armies, i believe there will be war. |

| Dave Matthews Band – American Baby Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
That's a good point about the chess board, ThePumpkinKing, but i still don't think this song is talking about patriotism (at least not your definition of it). Unfortunately, being patriotic in the United States usually means following your leader blindly, without question, while waving a flag. Before this last presidential election, those who didn't support Bush were branded as "unpatriotic" and even accused of being "pro terrorist", and that they "didn't support (or hated) the troops". I love the United States. I hate our government. Does that make me patriotic? By your's and my definition, it does. By other's? Probably not. I still think this song is a tribute to the troops that we are sending overseas. Most of the people in the video are young, and most are men. That could symbolize that they are the ones going to war. Or it could represent the families and loved ones of those sent to war (because there are also a lot of children). This is a very somber song. |
|
| Marilyn Manson – Personal Jesus (Depeche Mode cover) Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| Personally i like this song better than the Depeche Mode version. I don't know how they intended the song to be interpreted but my interpretation is based of of the cover that Manson does, and the video. In the video, you have the band playing in front of a screen that is projecting prominant leaders in past and present. These include, John F. Kennedy, Stalin, Hitler, George W. Bush, Ghandi, and others. Hitler and Dubya only flash on for a second (he's probably comparing the two). Anyway, the point is: Your (personal) Jesus is who or what you make it to be. Many people would follow these leaders as if they were gods. This is a very ironic song when Marilyn Manson sings it. There's just something that makes me laugh when i hear him say "reach out and touch faith". | |

I can't believe some of you didn't catch the sarcasm on my last post. "Raise the terror alert to neon pink"!!! Come on!!! ANYWAY... one more comment here. We as Americans get so riled up about other countries having weapons of mass destruction BUT, which country is the only country to ever use one of these weapons on another country? That's right!!! The UNITED STATES!!! We used not only one, but two!!! (For those of you who don't know, i'm refering to dropping A-Bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki during WWII). Maybe the world should consider us "dangerous"? Maybe they should try to disarm us? ***To quote George W.: "See, free nations do not develop weapons of mass destruction." ***They don't ???!!!*** Also, this song has a very anti-christianity feel to it. Have any of you seen the video? |

| System of a Down – B.Y.O.B. Lyrics | 20 years ago |

I heard on FUSE today that it's getting really difficult for bands to tour outside of the US because you can't get shit for the American dollar. Even more proof that Bush has done a terrible job with our country. I mean really, how can you inherit a balanced budget (running a surplus), and one of the most economically fruitful periods in American history, and turn it into the largest deficit America has seen? The guy is a complete moron when it comes to... well... EVERYTHING. I know in 2000, we went into a (small) recesion but anyone that understands Keynesian economics knows that when a recession hits you have to 1. Cut taxes 2. CREATE GOVERNMENT FUNDED JOBS. After the recession is over you raise taxes again. You can't just cut taxes and expect everything to be dandy. And then the idiot wants to make the tax break perminant. Are you kidding!!! Imagine the debt our children are going to owe because of our outrageous deficit!!! *WHEW* That aside i think that drama_queen_KBA is from Canada. Yes that's right!!! You can't fool me!!! I can see through your lies like spam in a zip-lock bag!!! This is just an elaborate ruse to get us to lower our guard, and then Osama Bin Laden who has found refuge in Canada can destroy us!!! My God, raise the terror alert to neon pink!!! We've got a crisis on our hands!!! Invade Canada!!! Nuke Canada!!! Let none survive!!! Kill them all and let God sort them out!!! |
|
| Dave Matthews Band – American Baby Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| To say that this song is patriotic is absurd. Anyone who follows the band should know that Dave is a supporter of peace and not war, listening to the intro to this song proves this. I think this song is about our soldiers that are oversees, and how their families would rather they stay. They're begging that their "babies" stay and don't leave to (maybe) get killed. When they're loved ones do get shipped off to war, they hope with their whole heart that they return safely, hoping that they'll see them soon. I think "God’s grace lost and the devil is proud" might be referring to Bush. How we went into the Middle East on a crusade (Bush proclaiming it was God's will to destroy evil), but the devil is proud because it has caused division (in our country and the world), hate, and the killing of innocents. "Nobody's laughing now" | |
| Mike Doughty – Tremendous Brunettes Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| yeah that's Dave Matthews. Dave Matthews and Mike Doughty are friends (Soul Coughing opened for Dave when they first came out). Also, Mike was recently signed to Dave's recording label (ATO). Is it just me, or does Dave sound REALLY weird on this track? Great song though. | |
| System of a Down – B.Y.O.B. Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| OK dougiecrystals is a completely ignorant bigot and moron. How can you say just to bomb Iraq all to hell. How would you feel if the world (which pretty much hates us) thought that we should just be bombed to hell? How would that make you feel? How would you like to pull pieces of your loved ones from underneath bombed buildings? Open your fucking eyes. You and people like you are the reason that society is so fucked up!!!! Gain some respect for the lives of others for God's sake. You live in the most powerful country in the world and i'm assuming that you don't have any financial problems. Are you even thankful for that? Probably not. ASSHOLE | |
| Mudvayne – Fall Into Sleep Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| I think that this song is about Dr. Martin Luther King Jr's "I have a Dream". A dream where we can all live peacefully together. I think this song is trying to say that nobody listens to dreams of peace, but rather dreams of destruction, carnage, war, etc. ****" dreams of fidelity, dreams of inner peace, dreams of loyalty, dreams of unity-, all gone" I think he's trying to say that nobody cares about good anymore. This is easily evidenced by the media, who report almost entirely on tradegy and violence. I think he's trying to say that we need good dreams or there will be no dreams at all (we'll all destroy each other). | |
| Slipknot – Vermilion Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| I think this is the most emotional of the songs on this album. "SHE ISN'T REAL! I CAN'T MAKE HER REAL! SHE ISN'T REAL! I CAN'T MAKE HER REAL!" That gives me goose bumbs everytime i hear it. Anyway check out the other mix of this song found on the Subliminal Verses Special edition that just came out. You can hear the instumental parts a lot better (it doesn't sound all distant like in this version) Also on the special edition is the full version of Danger-Keep Away (8 minutes) which is fucking awesome. | |
| Soul Coughing – I Miss The Girl Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| "I dream that she aims to be the bloom upon my misery". That's a fucking awesome line. | |
| Soul Coughing – 4 Out Of 5 Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| This song is about sex. "Her knees thrust in one direction like a symbol of math, a symbol meaning greater than" Think about sex, women's legs spread to make a > shape so you can... well you know. | |
| System of a Down – B.Y.O.B. Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| I can't wait for the new CD. System has always been really progressive (musically), and this stuff sounds even more so. It sounds like their using more complex rhythms and riffs while also using more harmony to back up Serj's vocals. ******Oh and for those of you who are bitching about SOAD's political views: STOP IT. They have a right to complain. All 4 of the members share Armenian descent (a country that has basically been raped and pillaged [including mass genocide] by the corporate/industrialized world, {especially Soviet Russsia}). I think that most of what they sing about has to do more with global issues, rather than issues just with the U.S. Oh and for your information, Armenia is cosidered part of South East Europe, NOT the Middle East (i've seen this stated on other message boards). | |
| The Smashing Pumpkins – The Aeroplane Flies High (Turns Left, Looks Right) Lyrics | 20 years ago |

| System of a Down – B.Y.O.B. Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| * The Piece* What you're trying to refer to were bombings of terrorist training camps in Iraq (no we did not "bomb the shit out of Iraq). What you're really talking about is KOSOVO. 1998, 1999 Clinton bombed the shit out of KOSOVO and Serbia (then Yugoslavia). The Serbs "purged" (read; mass genocide) more than 1 million Albanians. We never had to deploy ground troups there. That was all with the support of NATO and the UNITED NATIONS. Yeah, Clinton was an asshole mother fucker for going through the United Nations and getting support before we engaged our forces. We're Americans, we don't give a fuck what other people think. Also, he was the 1st president to run a surplus (economy) since Andrew Jackson. ****While we're at it, do you also want to talk about how the United States gave Suddam Hussein a bunch of weapons to battle Iran and their Islamic Fundamentalists (weapons used against us in both wars), or do you want to talk about how we gave Osama Bin Laden weapons to combat the Soviets in Afganistan? (Weapons that have been used against us by the Taliban). Do all of you realize that most of our troubles in the Middle East come from siding with Israel? You're the one who needs a history lesson *The Piece*. | |

| System of a Down – B.Y.O.B. Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| So what's to keep us from declaring war on Iran? because, "if they could they would blow us up". while we're at it, lets invade Syria and Yemen, and Oman, and Pakistan because they don't much like us either, and i'm sure "if they could they would blow us up". Preemptive warfare is going to screw us over, because we can't just run around invading countries that "might" attack us. Who's to say what we did was the right thing? Apparantly, about the whole world thought we were wrong, but that obviously doesn't matter. I'm not condoning Sadaam because he was a terrible person, but if we're so worried about other people's suffering, why aren't we rushing off to other country's aid? If i remember right, a country by the name of Sudan was having a terrible, bloody civil war where thousands of innocents were being massacred every day (you should remember, it was less than a year ago). Did we rush to their aid? | |
| System of a Down – B.Y.O.B. Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| If i remember correctly, didn't the Presidential Commision on Pre-War Assessments conclude that there were absolutely NO WEAPONS OF MASS DESTRUCTION in Iraq? Oh, and if Sadaam was such a worry to the Bush family why didn't Dubya's daddy take him out in Desert Storm? Has anyone noticed that since we went into Iraq, that gas has become a dollar more expensive? That the World hates us? That 1545 American soldiers have died? That 11595 American soldiers have been wounded? That MINIMUM 17355 Iraqi civilians have died since we went into Iraq? For What??? You talk about listening blindly to a band? How about listening blindly to the media? To our Fucktard of a president. Bush just mentions God, and suddenly everybody gets all tingly. They act like he's the fucking pope!!!!! __________Jesus Christ!!! You people act like System of a Down "suddenly" became political!!! They've been political ever since their first CD and single. They've always sang about oppression throughout the world!!! 20% of children in the United States are living in povery, and you want to go bomb the hell out of innocent people who never attacked America? No, i think the American people have been duped, not by a band but by our government. And before you accuse me of it, i don't hate our soldiers. Check out www.antiwar.com/casualties if you want to confirm any of the casualties stated above. | |
| Slipknot – People = Shit Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| I just saw Slipknot yesterday in concert and they fucking rock. As far as this song goes i do think that people=shit. It's in human nature to destroy each other. Anyway to all of you people who are dissing on Slipknot: Listen to their new CD. They've really progressed/matured since their first 2 albums. I used to hate Slipknot, but now i really like them because of the new album. It's no longer all about screaming (they have catchy melodies and even two acoustic songs). If not, i still understand why you wouldn't like them. Their music (especially their first two albums) has a lot of different things going on at once. It sounds uncomfortable to the human ear. It's kind of like Jazz. A lot of people don't like jazz because there is oftentimes so much going on that it is near impossible to hear and just sounds like incoherent noise. I think Slipknot is sort of the same way. Anyway, awesome song !!! | |
| System of a Down – B.Y.O.B. Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
I think "You depend on our protection, yet you feed us lies from the tablecloth" refers to citizens and the government in general. The government depends on us (i.e. the armed forces) to protect their ideology and the system that keeps them (and the rich) at the top. I think he is saying that we consume their lies as if it were food (i.e. through the media, be it terror alerts, weapons of mass destruction, etc.). We as Americans consume feer, and that makes us easier to control |
|
| System of a Down – B.Y.O.B. Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| I agree with shadowwiththeeyes. SOAD has always been about global issues, not just American issues. War and poverty are global issues, and this dynamic of the upper class never going to war is usually true (in almost all countries). Unfortunately, this system will probably always be in place, and there is little we can do about it because we don't hold the power in this country (i'm assuming none of you are rich...). | |

Dougie; Let me get one thing straight. Most people I know that enlist in the armed forces don't hope to be sent oversees to fight in a war. I see the commercials "most serve 1 weekend a month, 2 weeks in the summer" (Army Reserves). They promise to pay for college. They don't promise to send you off to war. I understand where you're coming from, but most do enlist because of economic reasons (read; they're poor). >It would be funny to see Dubya out there on the battlefield!!! Awesome song!!! Go SOAD!!!! |
